    • @AirBuddDwyer

@@Gravydog316 1. People routinely replace or redo parts/sections of their homes in the Northeast for exactly that reason.
      2. The buildings built there were made out of extremely solid, quality materials because that was the style of infrastructure at the time they were made and they typically hold up far better in general than the prefab styles homes that sprung up around most of the country later on that were made with plenty of plywood and fiberglass instead of oak/iron/brick

NYC public drinking world is actually some of the best in the world, oddly enough. There's pizza makers who lived in NYC and when they moved out they couldn't get their dough quite the same even with the same recipe elsewhere. There's something unique about what they do to NYC water with all the filtration/sanitation stuff. And it doesn't come from the East River, lol. It actually comes from the Catskill Mountains.

jim, think of the nyc water as the tenessee water out of the brooks and springs you speak of. it comes out of the catskills upstate ny. goes through or to several resivoirs in ny to the filtration for tapp water. i was raised in nyc in brooklyn and staten island. the water there is far better then what i drank in the midwest when i was there and even better then here in northeast tn where i reside now not too far from the beloved water of knoxville tn you're so familiar of. so yes the n y water does help the process of nyc pizza and bagels tasting better or different then other areas or places whom may also make the same product. as far as the pizza from imos? it was like comunion cracker with sauce and cheese..too thin and bland. their cheese was different using provel. not knocking it but it was different. nothing like nyc pizza at all. but yet it was st louis style. i even ate it with relatives of charlie imo himself or themselves. with imos i had to have toppings to give it substance of some kind where nyc you are fine with no toppings..and yes on a hotdog, mustard..or even ketchup and the sabret onion sauce as well on it. right from the nyc hot dog carts lol good ole dirty water dogs..im sure brian can attest to those.

New York City built aqueducts in the 19th century to bring clean drinking water from upstate to stop epidemics of Yellow fever and cholera caused by drinking contaminated local sources. It is clean enough that the federal government that does not require the water to be filtered. The water itself is actually purer than the average well water from most suburbs which tend to treated by heavy amounts of chlorine and contain various trace minerals unique to the area. The main cause of off tasting drinking water some experience in NYC is poor maintenance of the pipes in many of the aging buildings across the city.
