@targetaudience if you ever watch any more of the episodes the regular computer voice is done by Marina Sirtis since she was the TV daughter of Majel Barrett, who was the voice of the original series computer.

As far as fan-made productions go, it's *very* easy to get spoiled by Star Trek Continues -- the production values and duplication of TOS lighting, stylization, costuming, etc, is absolutely spot-on. The acting is at least professional level (vs "typical" bad amateur acting), which goes a long way towards making the characters believable "reproductions" of the originals.

I am happy that Target Audience is checking out this content. I know the acting may be rough at times, but I was won over by the writing and production, and the last several episodes--particularly the two-part finale--are extraordinary. As an old TOS fan, I honestly consider this series the fourth season we never got. Again, I am in awe at how they replicated the costumes, sets, effects, and even the lighting and camera angles. It feels so authentic to the TOS episodes. I would add that the two-part finale achieves a great connection between TOS and TNG and resolves so many "loose ends." I eagerly anticipate your reactions to those episodes.
I 1000% agree with you. This series was done (at great expense to those involved) with tremendous love and appreciation for Star Trek. The 2-part series finale is a MUST WATCH for any fan of TOS.
The only minor inconsistancy is that the ISS Enterprise isn't the pilot era nacelles look that it was in Mirror Mirror. I don't think they switched the nacelles out whilst the landing parties swapped over!
Thanks, I watched this whole series a few years ago and really enjoyed it. The love & passion that they put into it was top tier. The sets, props and costumes were meticulously recreated. The direction, lighting and sound as well. The stories were so true to the original series that Gene Roddenberry’s son considers them canon.
When I saw the thumbnail in my recs, I was certain it was going to be a prank, but, it was real, and the needs of the many have finally outweighed the memes of the few, or the two! LOL!😉
This is so well done and well connected to the look and feel of the original series. The story is tight too. Cool to see how much Doohan's son looks like him, especially that he's about the same age as his Dad was in the series. It's like getting the real Scotty back!
We interviewed Vic Mignogna (Captain Kirk) on Star Trek: Continues a while back. He’s the ultimate Trek fan who made his own Star Trek show. In my opinion, his series is the ultimate Star Trek fan show. I consider the show as close to canon and official Trek as possible!
In terms of quality there are a couple of others fan productions that do a similarly spectacular job. But in terms of writing and characters, I don't know if anything comes close to touching how well this captures that classic Star Trek feeling.
As I mentioned elsewhere, Vic imitates Kirk superbly except he didn't even bother to at least lower his squeaky high-pitched voice to sound more like Shatner and not like a wimp.
I have to say, Star Trek Continues was a quality product, obviously made by deep fans of the original. Truly a product of love not avarice, and done realistically and passionately, without going over the top or underplaying. Your reactions here as I watched with you is similar to my own, extreme skepticism as to what to expect, and completely won over after watching it. Hope to see you watch more of them.
This series completes the 5 year mission and ties it into the movie launches. Great great series. Star Trek New Voyages is also good, and has MANY original cast members in it
Well, Hell hath frozen over. It's actually pretty good, that Kirk guy nails Shatner's mannerisms. Evil Bones is scary. Makes Megele look like a girl scout.
Catching the beats of the original series camerawork, including the cuts/zooms, and the color lighting so unique to the classic show, makes "Star Trek Continues" a fitting addition to the series. Every time official Trek attempts to do "prequels," like "Star Trek: Enterprise," it never feels "right." The final 2-parter is the perfect transition from Classic Series to "Star Trek: The Motion Picture," while tying into a key past episode.
I know that you guys feel, to a certain extent, that patrons sort of pushed you into watching this, after you'd repeatedly stated you didn't want to. I do have to applaud you -- once you agreed to watch it, you gave it a fair viewing and then offered thoughtful commentary. I'm glad you watched this -- I've been a big fan of STC, and I believe that these fan creators thoroughly captured the feel and flavor of TOS, and did so while demonstrating very high production values that are a huge tribute to the original production, cast, crew, and writers.
One of the big advantages Star Trek Continues had was - having been produced after the majority of golden-age Trek (TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT) they were able to incorporate elements of Trek 'history' into the story in a way that these fan-produced episodes could easily slip into canon. I loved how the Continues producers were able to incorporate either the original actors or relatives of them into the production. A couple of episodes feature the Romulan Commander from "The Enterprise Incident" and she is played incredibly by Joanne Linville's daughter - I actually had to check to make sure it wasn't the same actress! And of course Chris Doohan pulling off his father's character in every way right down to how close he looks like James.
According to Rod Roddenberry,"I do have to say, and I said this after 'Lolani', I'm pretty damn sure my dad would consider this canon. The fact that you do stories that mean something, that have depth, that make us all think a little bit, I really think he would applaud you guys, and I applaud you guys. And, as far as I am concerned, it is canon. So thank you."
STC is the best written Star Trek series of the 21st century (thus far) as TOS was the best written Star Trek series of the 20th century, IMHO. I'm glad that you've finally seen an episode of STC. I hope that you will watch all of the episodes of STC, for your own sake if not for the sake of the fans of your channel.
Once you get past the shock of the new actors, it’s really pretty good. Stories are well written. Most of the acting is good. The scenes and lighting are spot on. The graphic effects are probably borrowed from the remastered series stock, so very good. The music is TOS, and, while a bit heavy-handed, is good. For a fan film made by unpaid actors and crew, I can’t complain.
I'm glad you decided to watch an episode, and I hope it isn't the last time. These people deserve a lot of respect for the work they've put into this simply for the love of the show. It's natural to think that anything "fan made" will be lower in quality in nearly every aspect, but these people were serious about what they were trying to do, and it shows in the final product.
Vic portraying Kirk is really good. Chris portraying his father was done well. Chekov has a wonderful replacement, including the scream. Uhura did good. Sulu character was quite happy after bed, he needed to be more . And Spock, well, who in the world can replace Nimoy! 🎉
They really paid attention to all the details from the original blueprints. Even the materials, researching original manufacturers. Awesome. A true fan based passion.
The snark of my comment on Patreon aside, watching this, it was much better than I had any right to expect. After having seen several other actors take their own approach to playing Kirk, it's interesting to see a performance where the actor takes the ballsy approach of "playing Shatner playing Kirk." It works. I still can't figure out if the actors' voices are higher pitched than I expect, or if the video is varispeeded to maybe 1.25x and therefore sounds "pitchy." Like you, in the end, I just enjoyed it for what it was, more than I thought I would... mainly because it's clearly a labor of love, and it shows. Everyone involved must have so much love, respect, admiration for the original series, its characters, the nuances of production, the writing, editing, lighting, directorial and performance style... even, as someone else pointed out, formatting the video so that it plays in "acts" like the old over-the-air episodes with commercial breaks. Fun to revisit it.
I recommend watching all 11 episodes in order. Please note the actor who played Dr. McCoy was unavailable for the first 2 episodes, so that role is played by a far less professional actor for those 2 episodes.
I'm so glad you both enjoyed the episode. I hope at some point you do watch the rest of STC. They are great. It really gives the same feelings of TOS. Thanks for this reaction. 😊
RIP, Grant Inmahara. Been a while since I watched any of these but it's a nice to watch them again. The quality varied but I appreciated the production and love that went into it.
My thanks to Alex & Josh for inviting us into this uninterrupted reaction. I had watched a few episodes of Star Trek Continues many years ago, but this was my first time seeing this particular episode. It was really great not having to watch this episode by myself. I think we all enjoyed this one.
I really hope that you do or have watched the rest of STC. The love that the whole cast and guests give to the original series WOW!!!!! Also, the first and last two episodes like this one are sequels to TOS episodes the last two especially are really cleaver. Worth watch8ng.
Viewing this series, it's as if during the original filming, the understudies and back-up crew shot their own episodes after the original cast and crew finished for the day.
@@robotti84 I came here to say this same thing! 😁 Fun Fact: Michael Dorn was in this one, and then Marina Sirtis did the Computer voice in 5 other episodes.
Also probably missed by most: Lt. Smith (not Jones) was a character in the TOS episode "When No Man Has Gone Before". She was holding Gary Mitchell's hand when the Enterprise encountered the galactic energy barrier.
Thanks for watching this episode. I hope you get to watch the remaining Star Trek Continues episodes also. I cannot forget the joy I experienced discovering these episodes about five years ago. There are a lot of behind the scenes and interviews with these actors on TH-cam that are very interesting. Vic did all the music for each show by the way. It was so cool to basically watch more TOS and I've watched all of them multiple times. I had first watched TOS in the 70's while in reruns and thought I had seen all of them until quite a few years later when I discovered an episode that I had never seen before. Same joy as discovering these episodes.
Glad you guys enjoyed it! Personally, I'm sated now whether you guys watch more on the channel, watch it on your own or not at all. Respect to the cast and crew of STC all the same.
it took me a couple episodes to buy into the different actors portraying the characters, but after that I was fully bought in and was just enjoying the writing, and everything this group of people put together for us.
These people took Star Trek fandom series and perfected it. That's the best way of describing this. They have good episodes, if we cut them some slack, not on great budget obviously, but more than decent.
Glad you both enjoyed it! The attention to detail in this show is perfect! The plan behind Continues was, as the name suggests, to continue and complete the original Five Year Mission. There were plans to do more, there was a plan to revisit the Chicago Gangster planet, but sadly with the new fan film "Guidelines" coming into effect, (ie, CBS didn't want their new show to be outshone!) they never made it. They were however allowed to complete the the final two episodes and they get ya right in the feels!
Thank you! I want to dispel a myth, though. We NEVER had plans to do "more." While making the show, we often discussed how many episodes we wanted to do in total. We always said somewhere between ten and thirteen. When our final fundraiser raised enough for us to do 11 total, that's what we settled on. There were NO scripts for any additional episodes (and no plans to revisit the Gangster planet; we discussed it as an option and decided against it). Unfortunately, the "myth" that we had "more episodes planned" has been perpetuated everywhere online. There are many people who wrongly believe there were "unmade scripts" (like the Chicago Gangster planet), and many people who wrongly believe that CBS "shut us down." Nothing could be further from the truth. We wrote 11 scripts - and made 11 episodes - because that's how many episodes our fans funded.
This isn't the only episode that is a continuation of a TOS episode. Pilgrim of Eternity is also a continuation episode, and even features an actor from the original episode.
I've only seen a few of these but they have all been very good. There is a passion that comes through the actors that shows how much they respect and care for the franchise.
I know there are some things that aren't the best or the smoothest, but considering a bunch of super fans got together to pull this off has always been amazing to me. Vic Mignogna (Captain Kirk) & Co do a great job especially with Vic doing an admirable job of replicating Kirk's voice, cadence and mannerisms along with the lighting, the music and the rest. There are tons of fan made Trek (though I think this is easily the best) and I miss the 'golden age' of fan Trek before Prelude to Axanar caused CBS to basically put the kibosh on these fun creations.
"Vic doing an admirable job of replicating Kirk's voice, cadence and mannerisms". While his cadence and mannerisms were spot on, Vic's voice is nothing like Shatner's. This was the thing that kept triggering my "suspension of belief" the most. Vic's physical resemblance to Kirk is astonishing, and makes up for the voice, IMHO.
I watched them all, and I was pleasantly surprised. Callbacks to TOS plots and characters (and actors!) were supremely satisfying. Vic captures the body language of Kirk, and as you said, in the right lighting and from some angles, you think you're seeing young Shatner. His voice is a bit jarring, likewise the other actors playing such iconic roles, but once you get past that (and really, it doesn't take that long to do so), it's a creditable fan series, one of the best. It's like a love letter to TOS.
When I first watched it. I was like not bad. But with each episode, the more and more I found myself loving it. I thought it was going to come off as a parody like Star Trek, the lost voyages. But the ending of the series is what won me over. These guys on this show paid attention to detail. This absolutely feels like a continuation of the original. And to me I consider this canon.
Nice, about time!! Continues, the one fan series I could recognize as a canon continuation. Other good episodes I hope you all visit in the future! Enjoy!
Congratulations on watching this even though you originally said you didn't want to. The amount of heart these people put into this tribute series is beyond what I could ever imagine fans doing... including getting former actors to appear (I'm thinking of Michael Forest, the actor who played the god Apollo). I think you will find the rest of the episodes equally enjoyable and even thought-provoking... and hope you will watch them. And I see another commenter mention that this series ended with a tie-in to Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Loved that!
I haven't seen this production before. Pretty nice work. My reactions: "Oh damn. Is that Michael Dorn doing the computer voice?" "Wow! I forgot that Grant was in this!" And fjnally - " Why is Edward Elric yelling over the intercom?" 😂
Shut out to all that put time and money into producing this. The sets and props were built with meticulous precision and detail. Now that you dipped your toes into the water, I'd suggest their season5 finale, a 2 parter. Very well done story and effects. Also, a shout out to James Cawley. He was the first to create a fan production with New Voyages/Phase2, decent quality, even had George Takei, and Walter Koenig guest star. He took some criticism for his Shatner mimic and not being close in appearance, not deserved for the time and money he poured into it.
Thank you for doing this for the fans. It's great to reach new fans with fan material. Hope that the next patreon goal brings a New Voyages fan episode. 🎉 And to bring additional episodes every few months is wonderful. 😊
I would love to see your reaction to the episodes "Pilgrim of Eternity" and "Lolani". I really loved the entire run these people put together and the ending brings the series full circle back to "Where No Man Has Gone Before" and is a lead in to the motion picture.
I've never actually watched an episode of Star Trek Continues either, it was fun watching it as you guys watched it. Obviously the meme of never watching it is over and I understand not having time to just sit and watch a non-canon side bit of Star Trek all the way through, but I think the best thing might be to just continue what you just did. Do a one off episode now and then between seasons or at other opportune times. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did either and I'd be curious to watch the rest, but I think I'll wait and see them if and when you guys watch them.
Sorry, but you both NEED To watch the remaining episodes of STC. It's well worth the time. I loved each and every one of them. The best fanfiction ST series EVER created. Hands down. Give it a chance.

The computer sounds like Michael Dorn because it IS Michael Dorn. For the non-mirror computer (the rest of the episodes), Marina Sirtis does the computer voice.

He still does personal tours of the set they build in Kingsland, GA too.
Live long and prosper but watch out Beadles About 👌
@@AndrewStanley-m3k 😆🖖
Please Please look at some of the other episodes. They stand alone as new adventures. The production values are very impressive.
I’ve never seen this show. Better than I thought.
Star Trek continue was a wonderful project. I loved every episode in their series,,,,
Someone did a side by side comparison of the transporter room scene with this series and the original. Vic did a fantastic job! He nailed it.
RIP Grant Imahara, of Mythbusters.
Pilgrim of Eternity is an absolute must watch on Star Trek Continues won't be disappointed.
There are quite a few great episodes of Star Trek Continues, and even if you don't watch them on the channel, they're well worth your time to watch.
STC is absolutely brilliant. Even if you watch it on your own time, PLEASE watch the rest of the episodes. You will not be disappointed.
Not to mention all of the surprises
You MUST watch the entire series, fellas!
How do you see it in the UK?
It has its own TH-cam channel. It's free to watch. Hopefully, it's not region-locked. @neilwilliams4684

Indeed, especially Apollo and John De Lancie
Damn- that was really good. I didn’t know this existed and it was such a treat to see Grant Imahara as sulu.
I'm a huge huge fan of Star Trek Continues its Canon as far as I'm concerned
I agree. A very fitting fourth season
I never heard of this fan based series. Thanks guys for bringing it to my attention.
To me Continues is more so cannon than New Trek (official "Star Trek" from 2009 onward).
"Yes, but not this captain..." Awesome, and way more than I expected.
Never seen this before, very impressed by it, captures a lot of those old Trek vibes.
Michael Dorn (Worf) did the voice of the ISS Enterprise computer.
Network executives are not known for their smarts and good decisions. The fact that they poured cold water on this great series is proof of that.
Thanks! S- Tier ! 🎉 Intense Reminiscence! True celebration of the original. May your journey continue.
Thanks, we appreciate it!
Their first episode is one of their best, since it is essentially a sequel to "Who Mourns for Adonais?"
Vic portraying Kirk is really good. Chris portraying his father was done well. Chekov has a wonderful replacement, including the scream. Uhura did good. Sulu character was quite happy after bed, he needed to be more . And Spock, well, who in the world can replace Nimoy! 🎉
The show goes right up to what happens in Star Trek the motion picture.
I still can't figure out if the actors' voices are higher pitched than I expect, or if the video is varispeeded to maybe 1.25x and therefore sounds "pitchy."
Like you, in the end, I just enjoyed it for what it was, more than I thought I would... mainly because it's clearly a labor of love, and it shows. Everyone involved must have so much love, respect, admiration for the original series, its characters, the nuances of production, the writing, editing, lighting, directorial and performance style... even, as someone else pointed out, formatting the video so that it plays in "acts" like the old over-the-air episodes with commercial breaks.
Fun to revisit it.
> because it's clearly a labor of love, and it shows.
Exactly.
I've never heard of this show but it's fucking brilliant.
I recommend watching all 11 episodes in order. Please note the actor who played Dr. McCoy was unavailable for the first 2 episodes, so that role is played by a far less professional actor for those 2 episodes.
@huskerchuck9212 Ive already started ep 1 but got interrupted with life stuff, im excited to get back to it.
@@erickelly8875 Awesome!! Let us know what you think!
@@huskerchuck9212 True about McCoy but those first two episodes are great regardless.
Between this and New Voyages/Phase 2 we practically did get a 4th TOS season. The guest stars on both were fantastic.
My thanks to Alex & Josh for inviting us into this uninterrupted reaction. I had watched a few episodes of Star Trek Continues many years ago, but this was my first time seeing this particular episode.
It was really great not having to watch this episode by myself. I think we all enjoyed this one.
One of the great things about reacting to STC is that Alex and Josh don't have to worry about copyright.
Nice to see you guys again I fell off at next generation viewing. I’ve enjoyed view this the first time you both. Keep up the great fun.
Appreciate it!
Chris Doohan voices Scotty in Star Trek Online as well. He's doing such a good work.
he sounds just like his dad, but he had direct access
For me, the original music is what makes this watchable.
Michael Dorn was voice of computer for starship Enterprise. Nice I totally did not remember.
@@robotti84 I came here to say this same thing! 😁
Fun Fact:
Michael Dorn was in this one, and then Marina Sirtis did the Computer voice in 5 other episodes.
Vic Mignogna was the driving force behind the Continues fan season. Obviously he is a die hard fan. He worked on the music for the series as well.
Love that guy.
Also probably missed by most: Lt. Smith (not Jones) was a character in the TOS episode "When No Man Has Gone Before". She was holding Gary Mitchell's hand when the Enterprise encountered the galactic energy barrier.
TA: We're not watching anything that's not cannon.
OTOY: Hold my Romulan Ale!
Except the OTOY production was made with Paramount's co-operation.. I feel that makes it actual canon, unlike Continues..
@@WEB_78O they gave them license, maybe it'll mean more, if we're lucky.
I'm just curious. What was the missing episode?
@@huskerchuck9212 It was "The Conscience of the King"!
Nice! Great episode. Appreciate you showing us the entire thing too btw.
These people took Star Trek fandom series and perfected it. That's the best way of describing this. They have good episodes, if we cut them some slack, not on great budget obviously, but more than decent.
The shuttlecraft is the original one from the show. It had recently been restored and they were allowed to film with it.
Thanks guys for giving us content while we wait for Season 5 (my favorite season!) to begin in January.
Hope you enjoy the holidays !!!
This is my first Star Trek Continues. Surprisingly good.
Nice to see Grant Imahara again.
This isn't the only episode that is a continuation of a TOS episode.
Pilgrim of Eternity is also a continuation episode, and even features an actor from the original episode.
If you want to understand Councellor Troi job you need to see at least a few Star Trek Continues episodes. Great connections. Love that series.
I've only seen a few of these but they have all been very good. There is a passion that comes through the actors that shows how much they respect and care for the franchise.
38:41 that was the coolest go to warp I’ve seen in Star Trek
Hell froze over and loved every minute of it.
I miss both Continues and New Voyages. Sadly both were shut down thanks to Axanar.
@@alucard624 Thanks to CBS freaking out over Axanar
@@andycooper6085 They had good reason to. Axanar crossed the line and ruined it for everyone.
@@huskerchuck9212 what is Axanar. Paramount always had a pretty friendly attitude towards the fans and fanfic.
Loved that!
Wow this was really good👍👍
Also, cool that they used the original restored Galileo shuttlecraft here.
I haven't seen this production before. Pretty nice work. My reactions:
"Oh damn. Is that Michael Dorn doing the computer voice?"
"Wow! I forgot that Grant was in this!"
And fjnally - " Why is Edward Elric yelling over the intercom?" 😂
Hands down. Give it a chance.
scotty, is actually scotties son
Yes, they literally talk about that while watching it.
Do you mean ‘Scotty’s son’?
his accent could use some practice
This series is so damned good that I'd call it canon before I would all of the junk that has been produced since the first JJ Abrams movie.
Absolutely
The lighting on "Kirk's" face is hilarious... 🤣🤣🤣 The computer's voice sounds like Michael Dorn! Great mock acting! They do it so well, sets, props, sounds, acting, lighting - heck, even the story, is passable... WOW!
The computer sounds like Michael Dorn because it IS Michael Dorn. For the non-mirror computer (the rest of the episodes), Marina Sirtis does the computer voice.
