      DFW was very specific on his worries of the shortening of media; I remember reading a bunch of his work in college before I got sucked into the void of social media. Unfortunately it didn't help keep me from getting into it, but it did give me perspective of it from the get-go and now I can appreciate his work even more.

      This clip reminds me of that one comedian who said something like “there’s a reason why when people are driving their cars, they have music playing”. It’s to fill that empty void and sometimes silence speaks more volumes than actual speakers; but we don’t like the messages of silence as we do with music from the speakers. Playing music stops you from what you’re scared to think about.

    i used to also share this sentiment i was wrong you need connection you need people, being alone with your own thoughts, actively alienating yourself for too long leads to bad things.
    It's hard to notice the negative effects at first because its so enjoyable, you shrug off the pain of isolation because of the benefits, but madness creeps masking as intellectual epiphanies or what seem like fringe perspective breakthroughs, before you know it you're a covert nut.
    Depending on how smart you are you can stave off the madness seemingly well until eventually your mind is tricked into believing the logic of illogic.

    People shouldn't have to put up with having to tune out the most inflammatory & obnoxious ear pollution that makes up top40 sameness at too many places it should never be...
    Why not something in the background instrumental or ambient, so its left up to interpretation, instead of having someone's overly gratuitous lyrics or self indulgent singing, that's not even suited for public consumption, let alone a "guilty pleasure"...

    It is about sponsorship. If somebody is providing it in the right environment the world is at your finger tips. Very rare to find in a bedroom, public library, or in some coffee shop or cafe. People know who the literate one is and the feeling of guilt overshadows real progress. For years I have been living that...

  • @katherinekelly6432
    @katherinekelly6432 หลายเดือนก่อน

    People are conditioned by the environment they live in. This avoidance of quiet he talks about is caused by the consequences of an overstimulating sensory environment. People who enjoy quiet are also likely to be readers. Technology is a threat to quiet because it bombards people with external noise stimulation. ADHD and many of the mental illnesses people are suffering from, comes out of this overstimulation. Particularly if television was the babysitter in childhood.
