I've used the x-mid for 2 years in quite a few 3+ season conditions and it worked really well for me. But I'm also interested to see if the x-dome is similar. Definitely need to add guylines, that's right 😊👍
@@davesgreatescapes what? Oh no, that's a shame! I was a bit hesitant at first, but it held up to some crazy weather including snow and crazy wind in Scotland last year in March...
Yes, I was a bit surprised as well, because this never happened for me on other tents with similar vents... maybe the 'angle' is not 'steep' enough or there's not enough overhang....
Hi Elli - I’ve put a GRAM-COUNTER GEAR Ultra Groundsheet - Large in my X-Dome, it fits the whole tent including the vestibule (169g, £26, Ultralight Outdoor Gear).
Schön, euch wieder on Tour zu sehen. Zwei "harte Hunde" 🥰🥰🐕. Ich wünsche euch für weitere Touren gutes Wetter, d.h. wenig Regen, viel Kraft und Energie. Ich freue mich, wieder schöne Bilder/Aufnahmen aus England zu sehen. Gut Fuß 🌞🐕👍👍
Ahhh... that looked amazing Elli and the tent performed really well and looked easy to put up 👌. So glad you had lovely weather and Otto looked like he really enjoyed it too 😁🙏. Good to see your ok after the Spine 🤗🥰😘
Really nice watching you on this nice trail. Think you have inspired me to do this as well. Obviously your blisters have completely recovered after your spine adventure. Look forward to your next adventure ✨️
Glad to see you've recovered so quickly from your gruelling Spine experience. The Mam Tor ridge is a wonderful walk in all weathers and Kinder Scout is just... Kinder Scout. Interesting to see your bog experience. By the 60s and 70s much of the Kinder Plateau was made up just of exposed peat with two centuries' worth of acid rain from nearby industry having destroyed the vegetation. It had a fearsome reputation for being bog-tastic! Since then cleaner air and a proactive reseeding programme have brought it back to its previous condition such that when we walked across the middle of the plateau a couple of years ago our feet stayed dry and we almost disturbed a nesting Canada goose right in the middle
Many thanks for the presentation of the X-Dome. I'm already looking forward to the V2 of the tent ; ) But I'm also curious whether it will be more of a niche tent for Scotland, because the weather can be too varied and too bad and the poles are too prone to breakage (regardless of the current problems, which have probably already been fixed in the current production runs).
Great video. You keep inspiring me to go out there and keep going with exploring our beautiful countryside. Been thinking about getting this Durston X-Dome as my current wild camping tent is just tiny and I'm looking to get something a bit bigger but lightweight. Looks like a great tent!
Amazing wild camp spot! 😮 Loving the new Rab gear too - I always think that's the perfect brand if you have a slim figure as their stuff is always very 'fitted', so there is no unnecessary weight of baggy material!
Looks like the quarry I camped at with Paul Messner last year. X-Dome looks great, I'm very tempted! You got great weather for Kinder, half the times I've been up there it's been miserable
Nice to see you and Otto back out and looking happy enjoyed the views up there as weekend playground as a child as come from glossop ,happy trails u both 😊
Another lovely video Elli, what amazing views you were rewarded with! The tent looks great, typical Durston, so well thought out. I think I'd want a solid inner for UK conditions though. Happy walking, I'm looking forward to many more videos from you this year. I'm starting my first West Highland Way walk in two weeks time so just getting my kit together.
Lovely to see your video of the Skyline - there is also the Edale Skyline fell race. Did it many years ago in just under 4 hours. Hiking it is a much better idea.
Interesting to see how the terrain has changed since the Spine race! Do you think it would have made a difference if it had been like that during the race? This is my 3rd review of the XDome now and it all seems pretty positive. My nay concern with tents like this is that if a pole section breaks it is very hard to fix. With a trekking pole get you can always get a tree branch or other stake and cobble something together, even just sling a guy line to a tree if needed. But with a ‘dome’ it needs to be a holistic structure. As for the Xmid and poles, I carry the Durston poles rather than use my trekking poles, partly because I am a single pole user and partly because I often pitch the tent in the same spot for several days while climbing the surrounding hills and I need my pole for hiking! The Durston poles are very light and fairly cheap.
Just what I needed on a Sunday evening Elli ; yourself and your wonderful companion to educate me on matters of wild camping. You make everything look so easy and an overnight temperature of - 2 is absolutely no problem. Every eventuality is provided for. It's great that you're still in the UK after the bitter' Peaks' experience and even in January the views look beautiful. Please keep your videos coming. I look forward to them. Cheers ! Sheffield South Yorkshire
Excellent decision! ❤ Skyline Walk is so cinematic and one of my all-time favourites in PD! Whenever I get up there, no matter the season, every angle is just spectacular. Also, I Hope you’ve managed to spend some time in Castleton, too! The tent seems solid! At some point, Otto was like, “Can I get in now?” Elli & Otto, I wish you all the best on your travels. Martin, Sheffield.
I've never been to Castleton before but I actually spent this past week there in my van and it's so beautiful! Loved the little coffee shop and there are so many walks from there. Only wanted to stay 2 days but just felt so great there that I spent almost the entire week 🥰 it really is a beautiful walk, I loved it a lot!!
@ellihikes You make me giggle just to hear about your enjoyment 😊of the walk and Castleton stay! If I may, on your next visit, try to explore around Ladybower and Upper Derwent reservoir(s). If you remember your climb up to Win Hill, it's North from there. You'll find some epic walks that way, too! Hoping to see some Cleveland way series on your channel soon! 👏👋
Lovely walk. Very glad to see you in better spirits after the gruelling Spine South. I much enjoyed a walk, in the late 1980s, along the ridge from Loosehill to Mam Tor. I’m looking forward to bingeing your recent walks - I think the last one I watched was your Great Outdoors challenge.
Thank you Elli & Otto. I've been waiting for your test of the Dome. Great to see you're happy with it as I'm waiting for one from the forthcoming April batch. I wonder which you'll take on your longer hikes? All the best for your adventures in '25.
After I got the new pole set, I'll definitely will take the x-dome on my longer hikes this year to really put it to the test. It's so spacious and doesn't weigh more than the x-mid. The only thing I would prefer is a solid inner for the x-dome which I'll buy once Durston sells these seperately :)
What a lovely walk, thanks for sharing, Elli 😊 I think that 1 open vent should be fine. Concern about tent failure set me wondering about your thoughts on having a bivi bag as well, both to protect your sleeping bag from any water and as an emergency item. Hope you weren't too battered by the storm this week - it's good to see that the current one has fizzled out.
Hi i am a beginner vlogging, and just got an Insta 360 ace, i wonder what light you had on your camera it looked good when you were sitting in the evening there. Thanks, love your films.
I know you have the Big Agnus as you used it in Germany. It is free standing so why did you decide to get another freestanding tent? I am curious as I have the Big Agnus copper spur. Also, I asked a while ago if you could explain the subscription for the Garmin in reach mini as I don't understand it if you only want to use it every now again. If you could let me know, that would be very helpful. Or if anyone else can. Many thanks.
It looked more pleasant walking conditions for you this week than last week apart from the bog Elli, did your new tent have the mesh inner or the solid inner? and which tent do you prefer the most, the X dome or the X mid?
Did you peg Otto down as you pitched the tent? He stayed in the same spot and watched while you pitched the tent. Even the passing sheep didn’t distract him.
I love the way you take time to dry off Otto's paws. We all need somebody to dry off our paws from time to time 🤗
Thanks for the wonderful footage of the simple pleasures of backpacking.. a real book in a tent with a hot coffee and cookie! You are an inspiration!
Delightful, thank you so much for posting this.
This has made my Sunday night seeing you and Otto out and about. Keep them coming Elli, your videos are something I really look forward to watching. 💪
Aww, thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words 😇🙏
Durston tents are 2-3 season only in my experience. Best not to go high or go windy. And add guylines because Durston don't even give you those
I've used the x-mid for 2 years in quite a few 3+ season conditions and it worked really well for me. But I'm also interested to see if the x-dome is similar. Definitely need to add guylines, that's right 😊👍
@ellihikes oh good, mine split.
@@davesgreatescapes what? Oh no, that's a shame! I was a bit hesitant at first, but it held up to some crazy weather including snow and crazy wind in Scotland last year in March...
2nd video where I've seen 'normal' rain get in through the vents. Still looking forward to mine arriving but a little disappointing for UK weather.
Yes, I was a bit surprised as well, because this never happened for me on other tents with similar vents... maybe the 'angle' is not 'steep' enough or there's not enough overhang....
I can't wait to try mine in Tahoe this Spring.
Hi Elli - I’ve put a GRAM-COUNTER GEAR Ultra Groundsheet - Large in my X-Dome, it fits the whole tent including the vestibule (169g, £26, Ultralight Outdoor Gear).
I love the way Otto is sitting there like the site foreman as you put the tent up.
😅😊
Schön, euch wieder on Tour zu sehen.

Always pleasant to see your smiling face and infectious enthusiasm for walking, what a lovely lady! Keep up the good work.
Does that doggy know how lucky he is?
Ahhh... that looked amazing Elli and the tent performed really well and looked easy to put up 👌. So glad you had lovely weather and Otto looked like he really enjoyed it too 😁🙏. Good to see your ok after the Spine 🤗🥰😘
Otto has walked more of the UK than me! Another great vlog Ellie.
😅😊🥰
I am feeling so down. You and Otto always cheer me up ❤ thank you for sharing ❤
Oooh, I'm sorry to hear that! Sending you positive vibes 🤗 thank you for following along, I'm happy that the videos can bring you a bit of joy 🥰
Nice. You even made the landscape smile.
Now I really want the X-Dome
How perfect for you and Otto together.
Reading bedtime stories to Otto 🙂
Thanks Elli and Otto for another heart warming video. Take care
Really nice watching you on this nice trail. Think you have inspired me to do this as well. Obviously your blisters have completely recovered after your spine adventure. Look forward to your next adventure ✨️
Yes, compeed blister plasters + kinesiology tape really did the trick and they were gone within a few days 😊🥰

Kinder tea , the water is beautiful after filtering

The new tent looks great. i'm tempted to buy it but going to wait till they have the solid version.
You can order it with the solid inner, just won't get it till April. I bought one afew weeks ago, I did it cos was worried it might sell out 😂
I'm also going to buy the solid inner as soon as the inner tents get sold separately, I prefer the solid inner too 😊
Amazing wild camp spot! 😮 Loving the new Rab gear too - I always think that's the perfect brand if you have a slim figure as their stuff is always very 'fitted', so there is no unnecessary weight of baggy material!
Very nice Ellie thanks for sharing.
Great job Elli , thank you so much again for giving me something good to watch on my TV 💜🙏🍻
Looks like the quarry I camped at with Paul Messner last year. X-Dome looks great, I'm very tempted! You got great weather for Kinder, half the times I've been up there it's been miserable
It really is a great tent, so much space 🥰 yes, I was very lucky indeed, the forecast wasn't great at all 😅
Thanks for providing information on the Edale Skyline trail. I may tack it onto my hike of the Snowdonia Slate trail this summer?
It really is a beautiful walk 😊🥰
Great video love the views ❤❤

Really enjoyed this video Elli , loving the new tent. ⛺️.
Glad you enjoyed my neck of the world :)
Great video, it looks like Otto is going to like the new tent. He looked so cozy in his little sleep jacket.
Great to see you both out again . Wee Otto ❤
Lovely to see you happy and recovered after your earlier challenge. Nice tent. Lots of room. Great vlog. ❤🎉

Nice to see you both back out. Love the look of the x dome and the size looks ideal for you and Otto ⛺👌🏻 Must feel like a palace
Yep, it really is the perfect size - it's massive 🥰

Lovely video Elli. The Edale skyline is such a great walk hey. Nice choice for your wild camp and the Durston X Dome looks great.
ATB 👍🖖
Lovely views from the plateau along the whole length of that ridge. I hope it picked your spirits up after the Spine race xx
Yes, definitely - it was great to get out and enjoy time in nature 😊
Lovely walk and good to see Otto hasnt lost his stride . 😊 it is a little less snow than last time😉 you walked Kinder. Take care ❤🕯🙏
Lovely camp. I'm hoping to get out there next weekend to give my own X-Dome a try.
Hope you're having a great time 😊

That's the Sea to Summit Frontier Cup :)

mesh inner,no solid inner for sale yet
@stuartchester6899 Thanks for the info Stuart.
I definitely would prefer a solid inner and will get one as soon as they are sold separately 😊👍
You really must have a good understanding boyfriend.!!
Yes, that's very true 🥰
Did you peg Otto down as you pitched the tent? He stayed in the same spot and watched while you pitched the tent. Even the passing sheep didn’t distract him.
Looks like Dan made the perfect tent for you and Otto 😀
That's not solo!
