Do you have any tips for actually reading the set? I've been playing for around a year but recently I'm moving to play outside. What I realised I'm struggling with is actually approaching to the right place with the right timing. I play at a relatively low level with mates so our sets are not always the same tempo but other people all hit it fine but me.
Great question! Your eyes need to start seeing the cues. It’s called “chunking” Imagine hitting/returning a good tennis serve for the first time. It will be hard to know how much speed and spin is coming off the ball. So it will take time but I always say to do these… - get to a consistent place so you’re ready to adjust to anything. Watch our Blue Paint step video. - read the setter. If they’re moving forward, backing up, moving tight to the net.. those are all signs that the ball is going to do something different. The more you notice those signs and understand what’s likely to happen, the more you can anticipate and be ready - go with the set. If it’s inside, go with it and it hit cross. If it’s outside go hit line. There’s countless ways to hit line or cross like flat, deep, down, tip, throw… it’ll be obvious for the blocker that you’re going in that direction but then you beat them by the shot you choose to hit
These Vids are amazing as always😍
Thanks! Appreciate it 💪
Setters are the best with short serve because they get the "touch".
And middles need some practice haha
