Good morning Ma, thank you so much for doing a great job. Please can I use Ankara for this style specifically a gown, will it come out beautiful please?
Thanks for the information. I am making a mermaid formal skirt for a large girl. I don’t have a pattern for her size. You are going to be very helpful.
Thanks for the video.....my question is can I leave the hem without trimming it to the length of center front if it's a lace dress because of the eti aje
Hi @ejiroekopokpobe7623 The back won't be exactly like the front eventhough you'll be eliminating the zip allowance. Remember that you will be blending the waist at the top from the zip allowance part to your hipline and also from the breaking point to the hipline. Which is what contours the skirt, you will then cut the skirt from the breaking point down to the hem exactly as the front pattern even if you're cutting on fabric just follow the steps explained here and the video. So you have a curved upper part and straight lower part for the back skirt pattern and the front pattern will be straight per usual because it will be on fold. I hope this helps. Thanks
I divided the hip measurement by 4, then added all allowances plus extra for the fullness at the hem. That’s how to determine the amount of fabric you’ll need to fold for the front and back. I hope you understand now, thanks for pointing it out
I added 10 inches at the hem on fold. You can also multiply you waist by 2 or more, and mark half of that on fold . This is not a rule but it gives you an idea of how wide the skirt will be after cutting.
Just measure 17 inches down from the waist for the breaking point. Waist to knee depends on your measurement I think for that particular skirt in the video it was 23 inches.
So sorry for replying late. Been away from my channel due to some personal commitments, but I’m working on a comeback soon. No you don’t, darts aren’t exactly necessary when using this method, but if you really want your skirt to have darts. Just add like one inch for dart allowance. Thank you very much for comment. Sorry again that you had to wait to get a response.
Waist to hip- 9 inches, crunch - 3 inches below the hip line, breaking point- 17 inches, knee line - 24 inches. Let me know if you have any more questions thanks
I used 2 yards for the skirt here. But the amount of fabric you'll need will be determined by how full you want the skirt to be and your size. But usually 2 yards should do.
Oh wow that’s kind of short, did you measure from the natural waist or below the tummy? For most people waist to knee is between 23-25inches if measured from the natural waist. Also the distance between the breaking point and waist to knee is usually 5-6 inches. So if you remove 6 inches from 19 that will leave you with 13 inches which seems too high. Please check that you measured your client from the natural waist before taking out 6 inches from the waist to knee measurement you have. I hope you get my explanation and thanks for your comment 🙏
You are a good teacher and pure at heart. God bless you
Thank you very much for such kind words. I am really encouraged, bless your heart 💜
Good morning Ma, thank you so much for doing a great job. Please can I use Ankara for this style specifically a gown, will it come out beautiful please?
Yes definitely. You can use any fabric to make a mermaid skirt
Thanks for the information. I am making a mermaid formal skirt for a large girl. I don’t have a pattern for her size. You are going to be very helpful.
Happy to hear that🙂. This method works for all sizes so I believe the skirt will fit her perfectly. Please do come back and share your experience ♥️
Thanks for the video.....my question is can I leave the hem without trimming it to the length of center front if it's a lace dress because of the eti aje
I usually cut off the eti aje then join it back after adjusting the length to that of the center front, since it’s it won’t be noticeable.
Thanks
Just to be sure, did you cut both front and back with the same A pattern?
Meaning no extra A on the back zip side?
You're supposed to have zip allowance on the back, you remove it to contour the skirt then add it back to prevent any shortage. Hope you understand.
@@sewfantastic yes, thanks.
But what I was referring to was cutting the back A exactly as the front A excluding the zip allowance.

Pls how do i measure the down part... Like how many inches for the fish flay
Fold your fabric in to 4 normally and add about 10inches or more depending on how full you want the lower part to be
Well done my dear ❤❤❤
Thanks ma 🥰
❤🎉Wow! Fabulous
Thank you 🤗
If am making a long straight skirt can i lower the front and back part with half inch as you did.
Yes please. You raise the side of both the front and the back by half inch then lower just the front waist by half inch and re-blend accordingly.
Thanks sister ❤love 💘 from South Africa 🇿🇦 I'll defend try it. Subscribed
Thanks a lot sis ❤️ please let me know how it goes when you try it 😁
Beautiful ❤️❤️❤️ l love it
Thank you! 😊
Great work ma
Thank you 🙏🏽
Thank u ma, pls can u make a video of this same skirt with front slit
Okay will look into that, thank you for your suggestion
I didn’t understand what to do with the second piece of fabric underneath, since you did not show when you were laying it down.
The second piece was for the back of the skirt, I cut the front and back together.
I divided the hip measurement by 4, then added all allowances plus extra for the fullness at the hem. That’s how to determine the amount of fabric you’ll need to fold for the front and back. I hope you understand now, thanks for pointing it out
@@sewfantastic thank you

Please how many yards for a skirt
At least 2 yards depending on the length of the fabric and how wide you want the skirt to be
For a Short and average person what's the knee piont
Usually between 21-22 inches (54-56cm) for short people and people of average height 23-25 inches (58-63cm), it’s best to measure to be sure tho
How many did you take for the down pat how many inches
I added 10 inches on fold
We wanted to see what it looks like…. You didnt show us the AFTER
Oh sorry….the dress was meant for a bridesmaid so I finished sewing, packed and delivered it. Didn’t get any pictures before the video was posted 🥺
