The Witcher 2 had a pretty cool intro section where you escaped from prison, if that isn't enough to sway you, THERE WAS A DRAGON! Luke dragons are basically dinosaurs right eh.

Far Cry 4 Durgesh Prison make a grappling hook, get out, no basically no guards what so ever. Heck they don't even take away your syringes so you can just heal yourself as well as hide extremely well.
Personally, my favorite "inescapable" prison was Papyrus's from Undertale. The bars were wide enough for you to literally walk through and all of the characters around were completely aware of that fact (or at least Sans was).

To think that even if he didn't come to let you out, you were in a cell with a secret passage that you would eventually find anyways if you were stuck there poking around. They even said that the cell was supposed to be left empty. Somebody should be fired for that one.
That's less a comically poor prison, more you were literally destined to meet Uriel Septim VII so you could fulfill your role in saving Tamriel from the Mythic Dawn.
My favorite is disguising yourself as a guard to sneak your way out- even if you're a dwarven noble. Even if the Colonel wasn't told about or shown the newest prisoner, you'd think he'd have some questions for this very short recruit with the distinctive facial tattoo.
@@sflosi34 Exactly, in fact practically the entire point of the segment is that you have to get all your items back individually, in a different order, before you can readily leave. Also, in OoT, the *cell* you're thrown in is easily escaped, but the fortress does a great job hampering your progress given the fact that the place is a maze and you have to free 4 carpenters before you can move on with the story.

Coldridge Prison form Dishonoured 1 Not only do you break out of it without any powers in the main game, you break into, and out of it again in the Brigmore Witches dlc
I was looking for this! Yeah you're literally not even in Coldridge for 5 minutes (albeit game time It's been 6 months) before you get slipped the key.
What about Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time? In the Gerudo fortress level whenever you're caught they just throw you in the same cell with and open window you can easily escape from with your hookshot
Elder scrolls IV: oblivion, you are there and then the guards and emperor come in and you go behind them through the secret passage.... well unless of course it takes more than a few seconds to create your character.
It’s the same prison from Arena, possibly the same cell. I don’t know what’s worse, that they just kept putting prisoners in that same cell even after the PC from Arena uses the secret passage to escape, or that someone thought it was a good idea to put secret escape routes in MULTIPLE cells.
Battlesheep it probably is the same one from arena (never played elder scrolls 1-3), as isn’t the secret passage a way to get the emperor out of harms way (whatever good that did) so why would they have more than one.

What about the prison you "recruit" Jack from in Mass Effect 2? They literally try make you walk into a cell willingly, full armed with a crew, and assumed it would work.
@Mikhail Nikolaev To be fair to the prison staff, it is almost impossible to keep Jack imprisoned unless you keep her sedated. Once she woke up, the odds were not in their favor.

What about Star Fox Adventures. You're literally thrown in jail for 2 seconds before all you have to do is push a block to get out and then the guards are sleeping.
My favourite example of this is from Rise of the Tomb Raider, the guy in the next cell over has hardly more than said hello by the time Lara's ripped a hole in the wall with a bit of pipe
Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s Gerudo Fortress. Fun fact: you CAN actually beat the fortress without getting thrown in prison. But where would be the fun in that lol
I actually just mentioned the prison tower in Gerudo Valley. Nothing made me rage more than getting noticed every time I tried to shoot a guard with an arrow.
The Oblivion prison would actually have been quite secure if the Emperor hadn't opended that secret path and decided to take you with him because of some premonition.
Just use a fireball to kill the jailer and steal the keys from the guards. What do you mean that’s murder? Why do you think I’m in prison in the first place?
What about the prison in Dragon Age: Origins? The cell can hold you for just one minute after waking up before escaping. Or, you can just wait in the jail cell while your companions come and rescue you.
Dorky Nanni I was wondering that myself, considering all you have to do is trick the whole prison into thinking your one of them. After exploiting the guards bisexuality, to get the keys.
Here's a couple you missed: Tomb Raider 2, 3 and 5. In Tomb Raider 2, you get captured by a Mafia cult and shoved in a storeroom by their seaplane on an oil rig. This would be effective... If the switch to the door wasn't hidden behind the crates. In Tomb Raider 3, you are locked in an Area 51 prison for attempting to break in, but you simply trigger some laser tripwires in the window and a guard comes running. Then you run out, free another prisoner and he beats up the guard for you, as melee attacks didn't exist in Tomb Raider yet. In Chronicles, you are locked in a submarine's sleeping quarters but you improvise a crowbar out of a handle and sneak out through the air ducts. Prince of Persia. You start the game in prison in the palace dungeons but you find a loose floor tile in 3 seconds, letting you drop to the lower floor. In Prince of Persia 3D, you also get locked in a dungeon but can escape by shoving a wall out through a secret passage. The guard who finds you gone grunts in frustration while gesturing like someone beat him at cards. He knows. Marathon 2. The Big House. You are imprisoned by the aliens you fight and are beaten to within an inch of your life. However, Bobs break in and save you within a matter of minutes. You are supposed to have been there for months but due to the way the game works, it feels like you just teleported into the cell. Half Life and Black Mesa. You get shoved in a trash compactor (not really a cell I know) but can climb up the debris to escape. After getting your crowbar back, you escape through the compactor's drain. Far Cry Instincts. The classic Xbox/Xbox 360 reimagining of Far Cry 1. You get captured early in the game and injected with a serum that gives you cat powers fuelled by adrenaline, starting with a claw attack punch. You wake up in a truck or shipping container after getting the shot and it takes all of 15 seconds to claw your way out, sending the door flying into a helpless guard in the process.
Hero of Ferelden: Hey, you. Guard: What? HoF: *Sleeper hold* Guard: Thud. HoF: *Grabs guard's stuff and leaves him naked on the floor.* Alistair: *Makes a point of not mentioning that their stuff is in an unlocked chest--right there--because HoF never bugs him about all the times Alistair diverted the group to replenish his stocks of hair gel and cheese.*

Hands down, the fastest way to escape prison is a hook shot to the ceiling in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Escaping the Gerudo Fortress has never been sweeter!
What about Mike’s prison. You know, that time where he locked you in that 1975 Ford and talked about cars for 13 hours. All you had to do was open the door but I don’t think he cared....
Check out the long-forgotten superhero #711. He broke out of his cell every night, only to sneak back in every morning to dutifully serve his life sentence.
To be fair (even outside the game), isn't that basically all the story of Batman and Joker boils down to? Crazy crown criminal being in a prison that doesn't even keep him locked up for longer then a day?
In The Witcher I had to fight another prisoner for the right to kill a monster in the sewers. I also got out of the prison at the start of The Witcher 2, a couple of outcomes there to simulate in The Witcher 3.
What about the prison in deltarune? Not only did susie Get out of there in like the first minute she whas there But a few moment after you Also got out because of susie- And we Also have papyrus his shed. When you die at his fight, he Will “capture” you in his little shed But its locked from the inside, somehow
What about the pit Daud throws you in at The Flooded District. Even if you don't possess a rat you just break the roof and climb out like nobody's business.
I Windblasted my way out the first time I played like a badass then dueled the Assassin guarding the building.. rly should play Dishonoured again.. perhaps even buy the other two Dishonoured games for my PS4 cuz this series is fun as Hell. XD
@@gblakney1 I you haven't played Dishonored 2 and Death of the Outsider I really recommend them. They are great. Perfect balance between familiar and new, the good stuff from the first game mixed with new interesting powers and approaches.

@@gblakney1 Yeah DoTO is/was supposed to be a DLC actually, like Knife of Dunwall and Brigmore witches, but is was released as a standalone title as well. It has 5 tracks, lots of side missions and some fun powers. I gives you more background to the bad guys, Daud and Billie. And the Outsider. I also came to find it by accident because it came up as I searched for Dishonored 2 for some reason.
Chrono Trigger does this. Twice. The first time, when Chrono is imprisoned after a rigged trial, the guards conveniently forget to take away his sword. The second time, in the Blackbird, the guards do disarm the party. Who then can escape by pretending to be sick and beating up the lone guard who comes to investigate. Without weapons. Chrono Trigger has some pretty incompetent prison guards...
Of course on the Blackbird you then have to manage to sneak to the cell with the sleeping guard to get one of your party's weapons and armor back. Otherwise if you get caught you get thrown back into the cell since you can't fight...unless you have Ayla in the party. Since she just uses her fist, you can just fight using her until you get all of your things back.
@@Canadamus_Prime Put Ayla in your party right after the Ocean Palace collapse before you wake up and go to the field with the other survivors of Zeal and you can even fight your way through the Blackbird to find your stuff instead of using the air vents.
Rayman 2: The Great Escape. They stuff most of the prisoners in tiny cages but give Rayman and Globox the penthouse room with only a band-aid to slow their escape.
Honestly, every Wolfenstein prison had the holding power of a used yellow sticky note. Wolf3D and Return to Castle Wolfenstein both start with BJ ambushing a guard and waltzing out of his cell with nary a look back. It's practically a series tradition!
007 GOLDEN EYE!!!! HELLO! In the second bunker level, just using a simple magnet watch to grab the key off the passing guard, and you're free in seconds.
I was coming on here to do this one too. They make it even easier by giving the player another exit and a bonfire, even if an undead wasn't good at escaping and dies eventually they'll learn what to do through neverending prison riots.
Not only that we were technically in prison at the Very beginning of the game, but we only got out of there due to plot convenience via a Oscar dropping a corpse holding the key to somehow unlock your cell from the inside down to you from the roof (and we don’t even completely know how he got up there to begin with)
Undertale: Papyrus’ Home prison? He held you after he beat you in a pacifist or neutral run, and a gap in the prison makes you escape in about ten seconds.
What about the prison in Rise of the tomb raider? You manage to free yourself and Jacob as well as arming yourself with a new bow within minutes of getting tossed in the cell. Great job trinity!
Not gonna mention the prison tower in Gerudo Valley from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time that you can Longshot out of? Two seconds. That's all it takes.
Shout out to that one Thieves' Guild quest in Oblivion where you actually gave a fellow thief a lockpick in exchange for info so he could do what you've been doing the entire game.
I swear sometimes pokemon games (and randomness in general) like to mess with players. I got a shiny oshawott as my starter in Pokemon Black/White 2 (I don't remember which game) and didn't realize until a friend pointed out what the star marking on the summary meant 3 YEARS LATER. I didn't see a single other shiny for the entire game. The color palate was so similar to a normal oshawott that I didn't notice, and I figured the glint that happened when he switched into battle was just a special animation for starters.
Where is Bargate Prison from Fable? Yeah, "technically" you spend there 1 in-game year. But in reality you are there for approximately 4-8 minutes, depends how fast you figure out what to do.
Technically, any prison that Cody from Final Fight gets sent to. He just busts his way out, literally. And then he turns himself back in. Ideal prisoner, really.
What about Rise of the Tomb Raider? Seriously who says, "Hmm there is a loose pipe that can be used to make the already sizable crack in the wall of this cell bigger. Yeah that will hold her."

I mean the bad guys in Metal Gear Solid did actually want you to escape, because their whole plot hinged on you being out and about to start Metal Gear for them. Keeping you in a cell really was just for appearances there.
Eh, you can break out real easily if you can manage to get your mits on a cauldron somehow. In the original release I think you could even get out with just a bucket or plate.
Final fantasy X is a little bit like this. I mean it does take longer than five minutes but is essentially just throwing the heroes into a pit and saying, "Meh it'll take care of itself."
I had an experience in Skyrim, I had been sent to jail for murdering guards, and after a few seconds I dropped a cup, causing the guard to just, walk in, leave the door open, and check out the cup, at which point I left the cage and lockpicked my way into the chest with my items, while the guard watched
No mention of Elder Scrolls Oblivion? You get out of that cell just by being there. Also, Shinra's holding cells in Final Fantasy VII. Just sleep, ignore all the screams of the guards as they are torn to shreds, then wake up and walk out the door.
The prison in Twilight Princess was pretty easy to get out too, sure the hero got help from Midna but if there weren't so many loose dirt patches in the cell floor we'd probably need her assistance even more.
I'm surprised, Ellen didn't mention the High Security Compound in Tomb Raider 3. I mean - it doesn't even take you 30 seconds to figure out your way out :D
I’m surprised you left out Papyrus’s prison from Undertale. The prisons on this list at least took some effort to escape, (though, I use the word “effort” lightly-) but with Papyrus’s prison, you could I just walk right out of it.
Let's not forget Chrono Trigger, where you get executed even if you're found _Not_ Guilty of kidnapping, but it's fine because any gang of teens can break out their buddies and fight off the prison guards. Their justice system is flawed, but it all works out in the end.

In the Flooded District, when you're captured by Daud, you escape by throwing a brick at a board. Then jumping.

@Mikhail Nikolaev To be fair to the prison staff, it is almost impossible to keep Jack imprisoned unless you keep her sedated. Once she woke up, the odds were not in their favor.

What about Star Fox Adventures. You're literally thrown in jail for 2 seconds before all you have to do is push a block to get out and then the guards are sleeping.
My favourite example of this is from Rise of the Tomb Raider, the guy in the next cell over has hardly more than said hello by the time Lara's ripped a hole in the wall with a bit of pipe

What about the prison in Dragon Age: Origins? The cell can hold you for just one minute after waking up before escaping. Or, you can just wait in the jail cell while your companions come and rescue you.
Dorky Nanni I was wondering that myself, considering all you have to do is trick the whole prison into thinking your one of them. After exploiting the guards bisexuality, to get the keys.
Also Zelda Twilight Princess when you are wolf Link and Midna helps to break you out.
Ocarina of time to. In the thief’s village.
Here's a couple you missed:
Tomb Raider 2, 3 and 5. In Tomb Raider 2, you get captured by a Mafia cult and shoved in a storeroom by their seaplane on an oil rig. This would be effective... If the switch to the door wasn't hidden behind the crates. In Tomb Raider 3, you are locked in an Area 51 prison for attempting to break in, but you simply trigger some laser tripwires in the window and a guard comes running. Then you run out, free another prisoner and he beats up the guard for you, as melee attacks didn't exist in Tomb Raider yet. In Chronicles, you are locked in a submarine's sleeping quarters but you improvise a crowbar out of a handle and sneak out through the air ducts.
Prince of Persia. You start the game in prison in the palace dungeons but you find a loose floor tile in 3 seconds, letting you drop to the lower floor. In Prince of Persia 3D, you also get locked in a dungeon but can escape by shoving a wall out through a secret passage. The guard who finds you gone grunts in frustration while gesturing like someone beat him at cards. He knows.
Marathon 2. The Big House. You are imprisoned by the aliens you fight and are beaten to within an inch of your life. However, Bobs break in and save you within a matter of minutes. You are supposed to have been there for months but due to the way the game works, it feels like you just teleported into the cell.
Half Life and Black Mesa. You get shoved in a trash compactor (not really a cell I know) but can climb up the debris to escape. After getting your crowbar back, you escape through the compactor's drain.
Far Cry Instincts. The classic Xbox/Xbox 360 reimagining of Far Cry 1. You get captured early in the game and injected with a serum that gives you cat powers fuelled by adrenaline, starting with a claw attack punch. You wake up in a truck or shipping container after getting the shot and it takes all of 15 seconds to claw your way out, sending the door flying into a helpless guard in the process.
What? No Legend of Zelda: a link between worlds? Lorule, criminal hideout, then you you straight up Super Paper Mario style out of the prison.
Dragon Age origins, less than five minutes lol
Hero of Ferelden: Hey, you.
Guard: What?
HoF: *Sleeper hold*
Guard: Thud.
HoF: *Grabs guard's stuff and leaves him naked on the floor.*

Hands down, the fastest way to escape prison is a hook shot to the ceiling in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Escaping the Gerudo Fortress has never been sweeter!

In The Witcher I had to fight another prisoner for the right to kill a monster in the sewers. I also got out of the prison at the start of The Witcher 2, a couple of outcomes there to simulate in The Witcher 3.

Dark Souls 1. You're flat out given the key to the Undead Asylum and you simply walk out (after slapping the Asylum Demon on the tush a few times.)
What about the pit Daud throws you in at The Flooded District. Even if you don't possess a rat you just break the roof and climb out like nobody's business.
I never thought to possess a rat lmao (though I did kill the constantly respawning rats with the bricks because I thought it was funny).
I Windblasted my way out the first time I played like a badass then dueled the Assassin guarding the building.. rly should play Dishonoured again.. perhaps even buy the other two Dishonoured games for my PS4 cuz this series is fun as Hell. XD
@@gblakney1 I you haven't played Dishonored 2 and Death of the Outsider I really recommend them. They are great. Perfect balance between familiar and new, the good stuff from the first game mixed with new interesting powers and approaches.

@@gblakney1 Yeah DoTO is/was supposed to be a DLC actually, like Knife of Dunwall and Brigmore witches, but is was released as a standalone title as well. It has 5 tracks, lots of side missions and some fun powers.

I also came to find it by accident because it came up as I searched for Dishonored 2 for some reason.
Chrono Trigger does this. Twice. The first time, when Chrono is imprisoned after a rigged trial, the guards conveniently forget to take away his sword. The second time, in the Blackbird, the guards do disarm the party. Who then can escape by pretending to be sick and beating up the lone guard who comes to investigate. Without weapons. Chrono Trigger has some pretty incompetent prison guards...
I didn't know you could do the sick man escape routine on the Blackbird in Chrono Trigger. I always just used the air vents.
Of course on the Blackbird you then have to manage to sneak to the cell with the sleeping guard to get one of your party's weapons and armor back. Otherwise if you get caught you get thrown back into the cell since you can't fight...unless you have Ayla in the party. Since she just uses her fist, you can just fight using her until you get all of your things back.
@@Canadamus_Prime Put Ayla in your party right after the Ocean Palace collapse before you wake up and go to the field with the other survivors of Zeal and you can even fight your way through the Blackbird to find your stuff instead of using the air vents.

Rayman 2: The Great Escape.
They stuff most of the prisoners in tiny cages but give Rayman and Globox the penthouse room with only a band-aid to slow their escape.
Honestly, every Wolfenstein prison had the holding power of a used yellow sticky note. Wolf3D and Return to Castle Wolfenstein both start with BJ ambushing a guard and waltzing out of his cell with nary a look back. It's practically a series tradition!

007 GOLDEN EYE!!!! HELLO! In the second bunker level, just using a simple magnet watch to grab the key off the passing guard, and you're free in seconds.
What about dark souls or dark souls remastered? You lose against seath the scaleless, end up in a prison, but you escape it in less than a minute.
I was coming on here to do this one too. They make it even easier by giving the player another exit and a bonfire, even if an undead wasn't good at escaping and dies eventually they'll learn what to do through neverending prison riots.
Not only that we were technically in prison at the Very beginning of the game, but we only got out of there due to plot convenience via a Oscar dropping a corpse holding the key to somehow unlock your cell from the inside down to you from the roof (and we don’t even completely know how he got up there to begin with)
Undertale: Papyrus’ Home prison? He held you after he beat you in a pacifist or neutral run, and a gap in the prison makes you escape in about ten seconds.

I swear sometimes pokemon games (and randomness in general) like to mess with players. I got a shiny oshawott as my starter in Pokemon Black/White 2 (I don't remember which game) and didn't realize until a friend pointed out what the star marking on the summary meant 3 YEARS LATER. I didn't see a single other shiny for the entire game. The color palate was so similar to a normal oshawott that I didn't notice, and I figured the glint that happened when he switched into battle was just a special animation for starters.
2 others come to mind. Dark Souls' opening level, and later in the Duke's Archives, and Zelda OOT: Gerudo Valley

Yeah, "technically" you spend there 1 in-game year. But in reality you are there for approximately 4-8 minutes, depends how fast you figure out what to do.

Eh, you can break out real easily if you can manage to get your mits on a cauldron somehow. In the original release I think you could even get out with just a bucket or plate.

Final fantasy X is a little bit like this. I mean it does take longer than five minutes but is essentially just throwing the heroes into a pit and saying, "Meh it'll take care of itself."

I had an experience in Skyrim, I had been sent to jail for murdering guards, and after a few seconds I dropped a cup, causing the guard to just, walk in, leave the door open, and check out the cup, at which point I left the cage and lockpicked my way into the chest with my items, while the guard watched
Would of thought the prison from Pirates of the Caribbean Online that you start/respawn in would be there... You don't even need a dog to escape.

Also, Shinra's holding cells in Final Fantasy VII. Just sleep, ignore all the screams of the guards as they are torn to shreds, then wake up and walk out the door.
What about the prison in Soul Reaver? The one where you shift to the spirit realm and walk out the front.
The prison in Twilight Princess was pretty easy to get out too, sure the hero got help from Midna but if there weren't so many loose dirt patches in the cell floor we'd probably need her assistance even more.

I’m surprised you left out Papyrus’s prison from Undertale. The prisons on this list at least took some effort to escape, (though, I use the word “effort” lightly-) but with Papyrus’s prison, you could I just walk right out of it.

Let's not forget Chrono Trigger, where you get executed even if you're found _Not_ Guilty of kidnapping, but it's fine because any gang of teens can break out their buddies and fight off the prison guards. Their justice system is flawed, but it all works out in the end.

Technically yes because legally speaking, Jane herself has never committed a crime. No court has ever found evidence of any misdoing on her behalf, so as far as the legal system is concerned she's a model citizen.
