It took me 5 first time round at 25 hours in... I kept getting overly aggressive and trying to race through it. It's a fight where you just have to go at the pace Grimm sets and only strike during your openings, and until I learned that it was painful.
@@bitsy8373 NKG Is an absolute nightmare (Pun intended) to deal with, and is definitely one of the hardest bosses in the game. That said, in the Pantheon of the sage if any boss is going to give me issues it's the bloody Grey Prince and his extreme RNG. Sometimes I'll go through with next to no hits, other times I'll take a volley of them in quick succession.
Interesting how Mumei is the "forgor" one, however Kronii totally forgot about the start Grimm mission and hiw she needed to fill up the flame twice. Jokes aside I really wish I was able to forget things from games I love to play them again as it was the first time
I was really amazed at how much of the game she forgot lol. I feel like Hollow Knight has a ton of iconic moments but Kroni seemes to have forgotten pretty much all of it.
NKG was my 3rd and last wall that made me question dropping the game (or at least ignore him) if you don't count the HollowKnight being invisible, he's like a more difficult to pull of, less elegant boss (bc that's not what he's going for) than the mantices in general and I love being able to look back and consider that hollow knight was my first platformer since the ps1 era and my first metroidvania in general and that I literally quit at the false knight the first time I played and to think that I have every achievement except the steel soul and the one that's like "speedrun ss under 2 hours with a blindfold, hanging from the feet from the ceiling while a muscular person beats your back with a bamboo stick and only using the keyboard

Looking at it Grimm has some pretty obvious tells, as someone who has never played he looked considerably easier then people make him sound in the comments. Then again I put a lot of hours into dark souls and boss tells are kinda just what I watch for. Either way though that was incredibly cool and Grimm is honestly just the perfect amount of edge and inspires that side of me. 10/10
The thing about this fight is that the the tells are pretty easy to read, but you have to react *immediately*, and they happen one after the other after the other. This is the easier version of the fight, too. There are worse bosses in HK, though.

@@TerraTheWise Hey I didn't say Dark Souls is the hardest game, I also admitted that this fight looks easier then people made Grimm sound. Didn't realize he had a "final form" as it were. Also just because a game is hard doesn't mean it's good, I've played harder games, but some push that line between satisfying and frustrating. There's a balance that is different for everyone. Mortal Shell for example pushes a little mkre towards frustrating. Hollow Knight has a lot of platforming which is nkt my forte so sadly I doubt I'll ever fight Grimm. But thanks for immeadiately type casting me due to one offhanded comment about a single game I've played.
I fought him with Pure Nail after beating the Radiance and he still gave me a difficult time. Kronii is very good. I also beat NKG after around 20 tries
Well since Kronii said she first try with her first Grimm fight, she probably didn't know that she can just wait for Grimm bow before starting the dance.
@@TerraTheWise Yes, but if her first run (which was one shot) she also hit Grimm immediately, she wouldn't know that waiting for Grimm to bow will have different outcome. In this kind of game, we are kinda hardwired to deal as many damage whenever possible, so it's natural to immediately hit the boss when it starts. Just like in Ina's playthrough, she didn't know that she can wait for Grimm's bow too, until chat told her that she should wait.
Here is the order of the 3 Hardest Bosses in Hollow Knight : 1 - *ABSOLUTE RADIANCE* (Also known as Absolute Bull$h#@, its the full Power of the old light, now she is not stuck in a Vessel anymore) 2 - *Pure Vessel* (this is the The Hollow Knight at its Full Potential, but of course, no Vessel is perfect, it's Impossible to make a Perfect Pure one) 3 - *Nightmare King Grimm* (Also known as The Hardest Dream Boss, he is the living flame Inside the heart of all Dreams......)
And then there’s massive moss charger, an absolute monster that only the strongest can defeat. One might believe that moss charger was the one who banished the radiance the first time
Yeah sounds almost too simple when you put it like that, then you see a bunch of people try to do it in practice and see them fuck up even the most basic fighting patterns. Besides, Grimm's fights are about endurance than finishing it quickly with flashy moves, a close equivalent would be Slave Knight Gael's fight from DS3.
I love the concept of Grimm. He's heckin cool, he's got that Dracula Drip. but god am I utter trash at his bossfight. No not NKG. I can't even get past Grimm normal. He moves very fast for me.

I always bowed to Grimm before the fight but I started hitting him after putting the defender charm for some chip
There’s actually a mechanic where the fight is longer if you hit him while he bows. Speedrunners always let him bow because of this.
@@jesserobertson808 attacking him during his bow makes his use pufferfish instantly at the start, and you cant do a lot of damage during that attack.

There are two versions of this fight, the one people generally describe as hard is the second one.
