I saw many people in the US who joined Rednote and got chatting to Chinese people, first they were impressed with the friendly unbiased attitude towards Westerners, then they were surprised to find the food prices in China are a lot less than in the US. I hope a lot more westerners discover that China is nothing like they have been led to believe.

Its too good to be true, nothing is free in life, so always think twice about it. Living cost might look cheap, but there is always a reasoning behind something that is too good to be true. Their average pay might be much lower compared to u.s. or, quality might be worse.

@@mike-x9x3u This is not a personal problem, but a problem of national policy. The United States has pressured the Korean government to promote human rights and LGBT rights since the past. The concept of human rights in Korea is different from that of the United States. It is almost the same as what the writer of the comment above wrote. The United States should no longer dare to talk about human rights in Korea when it has not even solved its own basic human rights. My recent thoughts are that Korea is a country that is more advanced in human rights than the United States. In Korea, no citizen is shot by the police and no citizen is afraid of the police. No one starves in Korea, a universal medical system is established, there are no homeless people, everyone receives equal education, and the public transportation system is excellent enough that you can live well even without a car. Korea also has a great spirit that praises those who do productive work in society and despises success through luck like the United States. Americans consider making a fortune at a casino a success, but Koreans despise such success and value factory workers who work hard more. Lazy, stupid, and immoral Americans, don't dare try to teach Korea. The United States should think of Korea as a teacher and learn from Korea.

@@jimingchan6384 KL is an overpriced city. So much so that even a wage of RM3000pm will not be enough to sustain a single person owning a small new Perodua in the city. There are just too many toll gate charges to pay .... apart from the car loan and parking charges. These can easily come up to RM1200 per month .... if you're lucky. Then, there's rental to consider. No, KL is not a good example to consider. Perhaps Ipoh or Malacca or Seremban, for sure Kota Baru or Kuantan, would be good. Then compare the prices in the local supermarkets between last year and this year. The most glaring difference in prices would be those for eggs. A tray of 30 eggs in Kuching goes for something like RM17 to RM20. 2 to 3 yrs ago, it was only about RM6 to RM8 a tray.

Britain isn't all that developed. You still have people dropping coins in boxes to get electricity, you have raw sewage all over the country, inconsistent voltages, and - this really surprised me - separate hot and cold taps, like it's 1890 or something. I'll bet that if you look a little, you'll still find a lot of outside toilets.

    • @Seeker2324

The problem with the system in the Uk is that the poorer you are, the more you pay. I was in Eastbourne a few years ago and a two bedroom flat was £660 a month but if you can’t afford to pay for even a studio, you get a tiny shared room in a dingy multiple occupancy flat and that costs £400 !!!
If you are poor, you also cannot afford to stock up on food when there are special offers. And you pay for coin-meter gas and electricity which is far more expensive per unit than ordinary metered power, and you are cut off the moment you run out.
It’s a system of extreme exploitation of the poor on top of consumer exploitation all around.
During the first year of COVID, energy prices in the uk almost TRIPLED whereas in France, it went up by only 4% because the French government cared, and bought (nationalised) the biggest energy provider in the country so they could control the prices. Meanwhile, in the uk, the oil majors and electricity companies actually doubled their profits because the government said that it was a free economy so they could not dictate prices charged. The uk along with the U.S. are the most rapacious vulture capitalist economies in the world but most people do not realise this because they are totally propagandised and lied to by plutocrat controlled main stream media.
      Organised, systemic corruption.

Hmm... Remember the UK is an island, and farmers are being encouraged NOT to cultivate the land or grow crops. Therefore, a lot of consumer products are imported. That makes them more expensive. Also, most of the UK workforce are a bunch of slackers, their working day production is probably 50% less than that of a Chinese worker in the same industry. Along with the EU, the UK is a bankrupt entity.

The prices in China looks to be around 10% - 50% lower even compared to UK's cheapest Lidl and FarmFood
Its true UK electricity due to importing energy, rental living (high immigration and low housing supply) and transportation costs (road congestion, road taxes, public price hikes against inflation) are incredibly expensive than expensive China's Tier 1 cities

“£3 for a couple of eggs”? 15:45. Really! What type of eggs were they - Fabergé eggs? Ocado sell 6 medium free-range eggs for £1.65, so “a couple” would be £0.55. Read up about something called “purchasing power parity” and then re-do the price comparisons. As currently presented the comparisons are meaningless - unless you’re a short-stay tourist in one of the two countries, and can and wish to physically transport purchases between destinations where there’s a cost arbitrage. One thing I do like about east Asia is that none of the countries care less about the western liberal élites’ hatred of single-use plastics, nor buy into the climate change Armageddon catastrophe nonsense.

There are many nuances. Choices, yes choices. For example, you can rely on an efficient public transit system without owning a car which is very costly. There's no property taxes. Rent is relatively cheap. Health care is very affordable. Food can be very cheap eating out or cooking your own because there are ways to save. Same with clothings, electronics and entertainment. So if you don't care about very fancy things, the pressure is off.

They have better purchasing power parity. Can buy more with less. Also, many things are free or extremely cheap due to government subsidies. Most national parks, museums, and zoos are free. Free basic healthcare, no property tax, no car license plate renewal, no tipping culture, university fee is around $750/year. Transportation is convenient and many amenities are walking distance.
Average income is about 5000-9000 yuan/month depending on the city. You can rent a 1 bedroom apartment for $100/month in a small city. Homelessness is almost nonexistent.

In the past 20 years, China's naturalization process has become one of the most stringent in the world. It is one of the most challenging countries for foreigners to obtain citizenship. Even marrying a Chinese citizen does NOT automatically guarantee Chinese citizenship. In additions to the marriage, the foreigner MUST:
      • Have at least 5 years of continuous residence in China after marriage
      • Be able to speak Chinese with a certain degree of fluency
      • Prove that he has economic stability and can contribute to China's economy
      • Give up his other citizenship; China does NOT recognize dual citizenship
A 2020 study by the Migration Policy Institute noted that China naturalized fewer than 100 people annually in most years, making it one of the countries with the lowest naturalization rates globally. China generally prefers to grant permanent residency rather than citizenship to foreigners.

There are several videos about that on RedNote. Main reason is because the Chinese are also sold the American Dream from the previous generation (quality of life in America has declined since). They also watch American movies and shows which doesn’t always depict the reality of American life.
Also, people emigrate for various reasons including: Education, marriage, business and adventure. Chinese students entering university in China have to past the gaokao (national university entry exam). Although university is very cheap, it is very competitive to enter. Only the cream of the crop makes it. So the rest either do trade work or leave the country. Hence, you have a lot of Chinese students coming to the West.
