Such an amazing movie. A masterclass in action cinema. Few movies can be this good this many years after release. Easily one of my top 5 action movies of all time with Aliens, T2: Judgement Day, The Raid, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
The terrorist with the "southern accent" is an American (Eddie, the only American in the group), not a German putting on an American accent. In fact, the group is not exclusively German at all.
I figured that the reason John McClane (ie John Wayne) was shoeless was to emphasize his (and America’s) ability to “think on his feet (ie abstract thought)” to counter the villains who hide behind their textbook plans that depend on people/the government being predictable. Also keep in mind the “shades of grey” outfits of the villains (evil as ambiguity) compared to McClane’s black and white outfit.
For as detailed as your video was, I cannot believe that you missed the real "Akagi" connection! Not only was that the carrier that served as the flagship for Pearl Harbor, but it also carried Vice Admiral Chūichi Nagumo. James Shigeta, who (of course) played Takagi in "Die Hard," also played V.Admiral Chūichi in the 1976 film, "Midway," aboard the Akagi!!
Monroville, I watched the 1976 Midway film not a week ago and was very surprised to see Shigeta in that movie, let alone as the V. Admiral aboard the Akagi, which I remembered was Takagi's password in Die Hard!
My favorite Christmas film hans down! The shirt change has always been the one big wtf in this film for so many but I'm glad it was left out. This director gave us Predator an Die Hard back to back 2 of the greatest action films of all time I love it!!!!

Wll when you think about it Die hard and Home alone are kind of the same movie: 1. A normal every day joe protecs a bulding 2. The bad guys are stronger by numbers and skills but still get ther butt kick 3. The movie teaches us about value of the family and forgivnes 4. Both heros have to make ther own traps 5. They are both placed during Chrismas time. P.S. I appologise for the grammar, english is not my first language
My favorite unconventional Christmas movies are die hard, lethal weapon, gremlins, trading places, the ref, and the ice harvest. The last 2 are criminally underrated
There were no kamikazi planes in the attack on Pearl Harbor. They were fighters and torpedo planes. Kamikazees were not used until later in the war when the Japanese were losing. They were a last resort, not a first-strike weapon.
But not really a last resort either. They were just more effective than torpedo bombers because of their built in guidance system. And also the fact they required less training and their aircraft not being a fair match for the US navy in dogfights. If you are going to lose your planes anyways, you might as well make them count.
My favorite non-traditional Christmas movie is by far Gremlins! From the inciting incident to the saturated setting, it's purely Christmas. It's just a horror-comedy too.
Another couple of Easter eggs: In the movie Speed, the building that Dennis Hopper sabotages the elevator is Fox Plaza. At the end of Fight Club the building closest to the camera that collapses is also Fox Plaza. In Lethal Weapon 2 when Riggs, Leo Getz and the assassin fall out of the hotel in to the pool as they are trying to get out of said pool you see Fox Plaza directly next to the hotel. In the movie Blind Date when Kim Bassinger goes to talk with John Larroquette about defending Bruce Willis in court you see Fox Plaza out the office window with its upper floors still under construction.
My favorite Xmas movies are Go, Better Off Dead and The Ref. I like this one a lot too - and for the record, I've always considered Die Hard to be a Christmas movie. 😉
I love love love Go! Not enough people talk about that movie. Never thought of it as a Christmas movie but now I might have to do a rewatch in the season.
"Batman Returns" (1992) is another of my all-time favorite unconventional Christmas movies, with a nod to "Lethal Weapon" and "Trading Places"... also "Just Friends", but that one might be a little too on the nose rather than unconventional.
It's funny because I was just watching it with the commentary by director John Mctiernan and paused it for a break to watch this video. Got Die Hard in the brain today.
An actual interesting fact about die-hard is when Alan rickman falls to his death, the stunt team said they were drop him on 3... They dropped him on 2.. That's why he looks genuinely shocked and scared
