In all fairness, Publix sells relatively better dessert items than most other grocery stores.
OMG. The bakery and deli are why I'd go to Publix. The smell of that from chicken....from the parking lot. You know where you are or it's not growing up in Florida (or your part of the South) without it. So many memories from that chicken. 🤤😍🍗

We have people like that in my church....its only because they either don't know how to cook or their food is not that good lol 😆! Like hey you can't cook but can you bring something else so you can still be involved. As out pastor saids if you can't cook, please by good store bought stuff at least 🙂

I grew up in Texas, too. The ladies at our potluck all loved each other. There was zero drama. Am I the only one with this experience? 🧐

From Texas too... and I dealt with that drama... not so much in potluck as it was with literally every aspect of church from who was teaching what classes to who greeted people at the front door
My extended family is very religious and very involved with the church. But they’re the best versions of Christianity. I mean, I do witchcraft and they accept me. I’m pretty lucky, but some people could have the opposite.

Truer than anyone would like to admit. Hilarious. I think I can see a bit of me in each of these ladies. Last potluck our church had, the church decided not to provide the meat. The ladies organizing it were so afraid there wouldn't be enough and forgot to trust in the Lord. We wound up having a gentleman in the congregation provide fried chicken, one lady made sloppy joes, another made ham and turkey sliders, someone brought chicken pot pie, two crockpots full of meatballs, a chicken and noodle casserole, and I think there was even a lasagna. Needless to say, our protein choices were more than adequate. Veggies were sorely lacking.
Now how you gonna have a chicken pot pie, sloppy joe or a lasagna without veggies??? There were plenty of veggies there.
If you can keep a potluck up like that you might solve the issue of lack of men in the Christian church. I think this needs to catch on!
I'm curious how trusting in the Lord instead of bringing food would have addressed the meat issue?

If I am asked to "bring a dessert" to a function, I only buy from Publix. Just the packaging is impressive and I feel like "Diamond Jim Brady!" Also, if they have the Mango Key Lime pie, well, look out!

I used to do that for the Christmas gift thing cause ya know someone always forgets. I'd bring one per family member in but once everything got counted and people started with "Ohh I forget to bring it" ... I went to the car and started pulling them out.

As someone who has lived in small towns all over this country, I can tell you this peach of a sketch rings true from in North, South, East, *and* West of our fine country.
This was hilarious! The ladies were terrific in their roles. I sure hope this becomes a recurring series. The writing, acting, everything was really top notch and entertaining.

One potluck dinner we had at the church I went to in Pennsylvania had a similar situation when no one brought anything but jello, and green beans. No meat, no salad, bread or dessert.
From then on they employed a weekly sign up sheet. And believe me, there are "potluck divas" in northern churches, too
As a Southern woman, I can admit that this was a true representation of a true southern potluck. I would watch this as a series. Loved this and love the ladies. Bless your hearts.

So, they announced that their baked beans were the very best baked beans, and they HAD to bring them also. I still took mine, and nobody ate mine. This person just had weird social skills. He often did aggressive stuff like that. He made me cry once during a meeting.

😄😄😄You all need to take this ideal and RUN WITH IT!!! I had my doubts, but found myself laughing; and now I'm glad youtube suggested it. I grew up being a weekday catholic school girl. Who was also a choir singing devout Baptist on the weekends. There is so much drama in the church, and a ton of potential storylines for this! Competing to be Pastor's Pet, Choir competition, Sunday school drama, teenagers in the church....comedic gold! I'd love to contribute in developing this as a yt series!

As a male Yankee that has been assimilated into the South by two separate marriages to Southern women, I can attest to the validity of the nature of the beast when it comes to the rivalry when it comes to the potluck scene. I would just stand off to the side and place silent bets on who was going to vanquish the rest. It has been a number of years since the last one was attended, but I imagine the battles still rage even if it involves walkers and canes.
So as a church lady who feels like I'm in a competition I never enter, I would be so thankful for insight on why the competition??
