- On Valentine’s Day 1900, students from Appleyard College, a girls’ private school in Victoria, Australia, embark on a field trip to an unusual volcanic formation called Hanging Rock. It’s not until the end of the day that the group realise that some of their party have mysteriously disappeared.
Returning to the big screen to celebrate its 50th anniversary in a dazzling 4K restoration, Peter Weir’s adaptation of Joan Lindsay’s novel has lost none of its mystique or mesmerising power.

This movie is timeless. I love it so much! So excited for this ❤
Honestly, seriously, crazy just how good film restoration has become of late. Genuinely feels like a film made within the last few years rather than 50 now, even the original audio doesn't seem all that tied up to its original time period. Never actually really knew what kind of film this was until now and am interested to check it out too!
The most haunting and mysterious film. A real treasure.
My favorite film of all time, I'm booked!!
Yay!!!!
I loved this film and was gutted when I discovered it was fiction. Apparently In the missing chapter, published as The Secret of Hanging Rock (stop reading if you don’t want to know), the girls hike up the rock and reach a circular plateau, where they begin to feel strange. Their math teacher, Miss McCraw, appears in her underwear, but they don’t recognize her. They take off their corsets and throw them off a cliff, and the corsets hang in the air. Seeing the suspended corsets makes the girls understand that they’re in the presence of a time warp, and they follow the math teacher into it, through a crack in the rock. They enter another dimension and never return.
Thank goodness the editors suggested leaving out that last chapter in the original publication
