- A British teenager died in a terrifying Russian drone hunt minutes into his first ever combat mission on the Ukraine frontline.
Foreign legion volunteer James Wilton was just 18 when he died of appalling wounds after being chased by three of the killing machines.
The drones “herded” panicking soldiers closer together in a bid to boost their kill count before zeroing in on tragic James.
And the rookie recruit - who had joined Ukraine’s foreign fighter force just four months earlier - stood no chance, his best friend told The Sun yesterday.

After graduating from college, 18-year-old James Wilton went to Ukraine to enlist in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. His family told the BBC that he treated it as a great adventure. But after four months of training, he began telling his family that he wanted to go home and that in Ukraine everything was not as they say on British TV.

Not this war. Average UA soldier is 36. Average Russian soldier is 41. It's an "old man's" war.. as far as infantry go. Interestingly, Ukraine forbids anyone under 22 years of age from enlisting or conscription as it wants to preserve future generations. Russia is conscripting as young as 17 and as old as 65.

Sure this young man was only 18 and I see a lot of people shaming him for wasting his life. However, I know some hardcore spec ops kind of dudes that went there and died just the same as him, missile strike obliterated their barracs far behind the front not long after they have arrived, they were killed in their sleep and were resting just after their first combat mission. Modern warfare makes no distinction of proper career soldiers and civilian mercs, to a missile, FPV drone or artillery shell, they are all equaly just a bag of meat. You just cant train yourself to avoid getting hit by a drone strapped with a bomb or by a missile, eventualy you are going to be seen, its all a question of time and luck.

What I did say, is that legally speaking, under international law, they are soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, not mercenaries. I know guys out there, and their pay isn’t exactly amazing, it’s the same pay as all other soldiers from Ukrainian units, no bonuses at all…far far from what actual Mercs earn.

Combat veteran here, enlisted in the Marine Corps in 06 first deployment in 07. We had a lot of training before our deployment. The biggest thing that I remember was essentially signing our will and writing letters to our loved ones. Deploying only to Iraq grateful I didn’t have to go to Afghanistan. When the war broke out in Ukraine, I had every intention of volunteering. I speak Russian, figured someone trained with combat experience would benefit them. Ultimately, I ended up changing my mind. I had a friend that went said it was a joke. Either way, I couldn’t imagine deploying and having a kid that has never trained in our fire team or platoon. Everyone needs to know their job and everyone else’s job. Like most wars this one’s different from every other one! Volunteering essentially for combat, and you never been shot at, trained or don’t know what “ tap rack bang” is and you wanna go fight! That’s just crazy to me!
I truly feel like this kid didn’t know enough! The interviewing is correct he wasn’t fully developed, but that doesn’t make a difference if you’re trained! There are so many things wrong with this, but the crazy part is this kid isn’t the first and he has the last! Luckily the American election turned out decent and not having someone that will keep funneling money and drag out the war!

Time in the military is irrelevant. No NATO army teaches you warfare in drone infested environments. This is why Ukrainian units accept foreigners without military backgrounds. Ukraine's the real deal, not sandboxes with pyjama people blindfiring AKs at you. Total war is less something you can train for, more something you're born for. There are US GWOT veterans who left and went home after their first mission, and then there are civilians with zero experience who turn out to be great soldiers.
Military training doesn't matter, it's not going to help you much, this isn't man in sandals in Toyota trucks this is Russia.
