Aw did you! You guys did a winter in TUNISIA? Yeah I agree you definitely need to be there to push them along a bit too and let them know of any changes and touch ups. We ran out of time but they did a great job none the less. Happy sailing to you guys too! Where are you atm? Cheers ☺️
Your new upgrades look fabulous. It will do wonders when the time comes for you to cross the Atlantic to the Caribbean. This is the first I have seen getting boat work done in Tunisia. I'm sure all will be good. Stay safe looking forward to next video
Thanks Jonathon 😄 yeah it’ll definitely help with the crossing for sure. Yeah it’s definitely becoming more popular for works as turkey is starting to rise in price and isn’t so cheap anymore. They can’t always get the quality materials but we got around that by getting what we need before hand 😄 thanks so much, cheers ☺️
Hahha yeahhh gotta have the Aussie flag!! Although sadly after last night in real time I think it’s well and truely dead, it’s ripped to absolute shreds from the wind 😅
Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou 😄 haha yeah pretty much just for the upgrades to be honest, otherwise we prob wouldn’t have bothered in the end, lots of malta content coming soon 😍
@@LeadingtheEscapade i actually think from memory, i told you that’s where Sunday had some similar work done? Obviously not the stainless.. which i wanted to ask, I thought that davit system looked a bit weak, if you are in front with the episodes? How is it going? Strong enough with the engine on?
Haha yesss you did! But I remember you also told us to bring material with us so we chatted to Ryan and Brit about it and also the canvas guy suggested the same too. They’re going great so far, so problems and we’ve covered a lot of ground, however a few people have said to maybe get some bigger rings welded on or some extra so we might look into that to be honest We will still pop it up on deck for Atlantic or bigger passages
A great bimini and dodger is such a bonus to happy living. I would still put the dinghy on the foredeck when your doing long passages in large swell. Particularly the Atlantic. Like Jason says are those rings going to hold the dinghy if a large wave comes and slaps the bottom of the dinghy or fills it.
It really is isn’t it! Makes all the difference, we won’t know ourselves hahah. Yeah we actually said we would do that too, anything more than an overnight or when we know swell is gonna be big, although we do try to avoid that 🤣 we might look at having some bigger rings welded on as it’s easy to actually remove the poles of the davits and take them in somewhere 🙌🏼 cheers 😄
Thankyou ☺️ we didn’t in the end as our guy didn’t have time and or we didn’t have enough material to go ahead with it, but we really wanted it, just ran out of time really 😅 hopefully not too expensive as we’d love to have it done sometime soon
Did you source the materials in Monastir? I’m heading there for winter and will get a new arch (for solar) and cockpit cushions and wondering if I get materials in Italy or Malta first. Any advice? Also, can you recommend places to buy materials or so the work? Thanks
Heya, so we bought all the materials and hardware we needed in Malta, at a place called Kelly’s. It was great! Made a list of everything we needed and bought it all from there, canvas, PVC, Marina zips, buttons etc. however if you’re going to monastir the guys there at the shop in the marina have most of the quality materials I found, plus cockpit cushions don’t really need to be made out of Sunbrella anyway. So I think you’ll be fine to just have it made there 😄 As soon as you arrive you can chat to the brothers, there shop is right behind one of the restaurants, some marina locals will be able to point you in the right direction. Also you can WhatsApp Saber for your stainless work, let him know Jase and Janaye from Leading the Escapade recommended you, so that he does a good job 😉 his number in WhatsApp is +216 52 809 400 Give us a message on Instagram @leading.the.escapade if you need any more advice or help as you go 😃
Great video and amazing work! I have a question. How easy is it to get that cash out that you have for the deposit? Did you go to a bank or an ATM? Thanks, Kellie
Hey Kellie 😝 Thankyou! So we just went to an ATM but you can only get a few hundred out at a time but you can keep doing it in one day. So if you’re getting work done maybe just get some cash out each time you go past the ATM; there’s a good one like 5-10 minutes walk from the marina 😁
Thanks Ed 😄 we’re not sure yet, we’ll decide in September depending on how far we’ve gotten west and how much we’ve seen. But if we cross it’ll be like dec-jan and to the Caribbean, so not sure how long it’ll take to get to Bahamas 🇧🇸 ☺️
Hey guys I commented a bit ago about selling our investment property for a boat - well we did it! So excited to sail the world hopefully one day we will meet on the water! Still loving your content!
Oh my gosh congratulations guys!!) how exciting 😍😍😍 so you’ve bought the boat too?? Where are you starting?? Hopefully we’ll see you out there and we can have a beverage or two 😝 thanks so much!
@@LeadingtheEscapade right now we are in fresh water - Lake Michigan! There is a river system in the US that goes down the middle that we are highly considering demasting our sailboat in Chicago, motoring down to mobile Alabama, and then remasting, and sail the Caribbean!
Thankyou! Pretty happy with how it all turned out, Not perfect but pretty close 😄 and that’s go be expected when you don’t pay a lot of money or have a lot of time 😅 cheers ☺️
Thanks Nigel, so stoked with how it turned out 😆 we used a guy called Amine but he was from Hammamet so I don’t think he usually comes to monastir for the work. I’d recommend going to him in Hammamet if you want to use him as then he can come back and forth regularly. That was the only downside for us that it wasn’t easy to organise regular visits for fittings of the canvas as he was about an hour and a half away. We also bought all the materials before hand as he said it can be hard for them to supply all the quality materials. However we did later meet other canvas people who were able to get sunbrella, good zips etc
We actually got some side sun shades done literally on the last night from some other canvas guys 🤣 very last minute as we weren’t sure we’d be able to afford it so we’ll show you guys those soon 😆 cheers 😄
Thanks Andy! Very happy with it! Yeah so that was an issue for a little bit. We moved the them off the bar that was specifically made for them and tried to place it on our pushpit as apparently it doesn’t actually have to be high up. And then Jase accidentally broke the wires on the GPS so we had no radar or AIS, chart plotter for our overnight passage back to Malta 😅 we went into the Raymarine dealer when we arrived in malta to see if we could order the new wire for it as it was a very fancy looking wire and then we found out that our chart plotter model actually had a built in GPS so the extra piece wasn’t actually necessary. So we thought we’d give it a go and we’ve been fine without it since
Great job. Now to do the same on my boat. I have a Canadian Bayfield 40 which is similar in size to yours. Did you design the layout or have a boat builder advise you? Thanks from British Columbia, Canada 😊
Oh awesome!! We were pretty clueless with the solar arch, kinda knew what we wanted but didn’t really have a design, but it helped to be in the marina to look at other work he had done or what other people had and Then we decided what we liked and didn’t like, he also sent us a few photos Aswell and then obviously some of it got left up to what they needed to do to make it strong enough. We wanted it high enough that we could still duck under the tender with it up high on the davits at a marina Getting some photos is prob the best start for you 😄
Ah yes I see! We actually got some side sun shades last minute that help with the wind and sun. They’re quiet a heavy mesh that you can see out of and not in so think it would help a little with rain too but not completely waterproof obviously, we’d love to get a full enclosure added on at some point so we can roll it and down when needed and seal in the cockpit
Because it’s cheap 😅 the labour costs are super low in TUNISIA, so it’s a great place for affordable boat work, they just can’t always import the quality materials so there’s small things that you may need to bring with you etc
Looks epic guys! The windows in the Bimini is a game changer, would love that
Yeah it’s def needed for a bimney where the middle piece isn’t removable any longer 😄 gotta think all of all the details 😀❤️
Hi, Great upgrade added thousands to the boat value. Cheers
I agree! Looks so much more modern 😄 Thankyou ☺️
