I've had luck by attacking Aq-Qoyunlu, getting lucky by them not allying the ottos, and basically replacing them. From then on, like you did, it's basically a race to destroy Qara-Qoyunlu and the Mamluks before the Ottos get any ideas. I guess I got lucky because I only had to fight the Ottos once. Was able to ally Hungary and Naples though, maybe thats a route to explore, as having a shared rival should be enough to get you over the tipping point for the alliance.

Hisn Kayfa (Hasankeyf in modern Turkish) currently sits underwater due to a highly controversial dam project in Turkey (the Ilısu Dam) that has caused the banks of the Tigris to rise and engulf it, leading to a loss of many archaeological sites and the displacement of over 80,000 people. Despite local and international protests that even led foreign investors to pull their funding, the construction of the dam was finished in 2018 and by 2020 Hasankeyf was submerged. While some historical monuments were moved beforehand, there are still many ancient buildings that were unable to be moved. The construction of the dam also led to water shortages and environmental damages in Iraq, which combined with civil unrest and low rainfall led to severely low harvests in 2018 and 2019.

For my achievement, I was never able to make the AQ/Syria strategy work. Ottomans turned hostile too quickly. Instead, I allied them and expanded to the east & south while letting them eat the Mamluks. Eventually broke alliance with them, waited until the Ottomans got involved in a war with Austria, declared war bringing in my Polish ally, took a bunch of undefended territory and peaced out. Switched to Austria & Russia allies for my next Ottomans war. After that, chain wars until I got the achievement.

  • @anate9

If you want to prevent a coalition war from triggering or a powerful nation attacking you, simply take mercenaries or increase your army size. This will drag the war out, even if they start the war they will attack a couple years later which will give you the chance of getting allies

  • @Jayako12
    @Jayako12 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I've actually played as Hisn Kayfa recently and it's easier than you'd expect. You can RM the Ottomans day one, ally Ajam and Dulkadir and restart until AQ doesn't have any ally. Then you can full annex AQ, rival Dulkadir (very important), ally the Ottomans and release Syria and Iraq. Expand into the Caucasus to cut Northern Ottoman expansion (I recommend releasing Georgia as well). You'll be able to declare on the Mamelukes for the cores of Syria and have the Ottomans give them all to you. You can fight AQ with Ajam.
I didn't even struggle with money despite keeping the horse. Ended up converting to Judaism and forming Persia. Fun game.

Its the ottoman war that was the turning point, they still got the siege age bonus so its all about winning battles and trying to rush forts afterwards. Even good players cant ironman that fully, at best with reloading saves they get that war into a white peace/stalemate.
If you or someone else tries this archievement the cheese I like doing is giving lands in war to useful allies like the otto's for favors and then push trust above 80 with those favors. Once you get your ally in that position they likely never wont turn on you. In this game you couldve snaked slightly more northeast and start wars agianst georgia, crimean, circassia etc and feed ottomans some those lands for favors to keep on your side. the claim bordering claims age ability helps a lot with pulling this strat off btw.

I must’ve been very lucky when I did my run because thanks to Religious Diplomats and Diplo rep I managed to ally Ottomans within the first five years and then I’d already won, since I used favors with them in the first war against Mamluks and just made sure to not give them anything that’d give them claims on my land.

For Germiyan in releasables you should do nothing and improve realtions with Mamuluks and hope they will support your independence, they didn't want to in my first run, but in second they did, probably because they were bordering the Ottomans. If you royal marry the ottomans go restart. Once you get Mamuluks to support your independence you should either wait for them to fight someone in the balkans or declare immediately because they will placate your rulers to get you under 50 liberty desire. You may want to make a backup save for war just so you don't have to do a full restart if Mamuluk ai trolls you, also if Ottomans ally Tunis you should probably restart or go all in with mercs to try to hold out until Mamuluks deal with Tunis(although you'll probably go bankrupt this way). Once you win the war you should take Gelibolu, Constantinople, whatever you can in north Anatolia and war reparations and stay as far away from Mamuluks as long possible because you are still not strong enough to fight them and you won't need any allies because you'll still be surrounded by the Ottomans. After that you'll probably fight theodoro, crimea, georgia or circassia depending on their allies and then probably even more weakened Ottomans if Austria got Hungary and declared on them, otherwise you wait until Mamuluks declares on the Ottomans and if the Ottomans declare on you then mercs and debt it is, after that second war you should start looking for allies to prevent Mamuluks and Austria from declaring on you and the rest is up to you. Hope this helps and good luck.

It's a little strange that you couldn't succeed considering your usual performance... A few tips, if you try to follow the mission tree, it's hard to success due to the Ottoman disaster. Use the Mamluk as a mercenary in the beginning to get the Syrian and Iraqi cores, break the alliance with them, and then form an alliance with the Ottomans to absorb the Mamluks first. If you absorb most of the Mamluk lands before your relationship with the Ottomans is ruined, you can beat the Ottomans in a final showdown.

      @@Al-Basha_This specific thing? No.
But it is my understanding that the ai doesn't evaluate troop numbers in terms of absolute numbers but rather relative strength to themselves.
That being the case, because you have so few provinces with this OPM low dev start, doing something like quantity won't actually help you very much in this way. Percentage bonuses (like the forcelimit and manpower bonuses quantity gives you) scale with your size, so while the percentage increase is the same, in absolute numbers it isn't doing very much at this low level of base stats. Thats assuming such a small and poor nation could even afford to have a much bigger army.
In the abstract this isn't a problem with the quantity idea. It will still be good enough to help for your army size to bump up your relative army strength so that mid sized nations like QQ don't see a particularly weak neighbour. And it gets progressively better as a policy the bigger you get.
But in the context of the Ottomans this early on in the game with this nation its a bit of a waste of a policy in my opinion. They have the strongest (and one of the biggest except maybe Ming, although they Mingsploded early here) armys in the game at the moment and are widely considered the strongest nation in the game during this era. What this means is that their relative army strength is numerically SO much bigger than your own (and with an agressively expansionist ruler) that taking quantity is a drop in the bucket even if you had the funds for maximum forcelimit. Even if Red Hawk doubled his force limit which is beyond what the policy is even capable of, he would still be considered militarily very weak to the Ottomans. Since that is the case, it is pointless to take because it would make little difference unless you were going to lose an Ottoman alliance because of not enough army size or something, which isn't the context here. Since we've established that no matter what we can do with the military it is futile in making the Ottomans hesitant to attack (and we would lose mega badly if they do) there is logically only three options.
Option 1, ally the Ottomans. This works very well, but because you are still small, you need to be fairly careful about what you conquer because if the Ottomans randomly deside that something you have is particularly high value for them this game you don't have enough pro-alliance things to outweigh this debuff and they will break the alliance. This happened to Hawk because the Ottomans really wanted what he himself wanted, and he was far too small to hold the alliance.
Option 2, create a massive anti-Ottoman alliance and use their combined military to dissuade the Ottomans. This is what Hawk tried, and while it can work, allies can be unpredictable, sometimes the Ottomans will attack anyway, and either way in this context your nation would be the literal battleground because you are at the centre. This also happened to Hawk.
Option 3 is not great. Its basically avoid anything that could make you desirable for an Ottoman invasion, and keep expanding and doing your own thing in other directions until you become a lot more powerful. Of course, this relies on a bit of luck and hope that the Ottomans don't attack you.
Anyway, if you wanted my opinion on a better choice of policy, I would probably have gone diplomatic instead. More diplomatic reputation, and more alliance relation slots, both to make the alliance bigger and also more likely to work. In the context of needing a deterrant against an Ottomans who is hostile towards you, I feel this would have been the much better play. Having another 6-8k men wasn't ever going to do anything because of the disparity. Having more allies that would actually join the call to arms would. Also, there is always a good chance the ottomans attacked "because" those two nations wouldn't join. After all humans can see that sort of information declaing war, so I assume the ai can? So even if diplo ideas didn't manage to stop the war entirely you would have more (geographically closer too) allies and there is always a decent chance the war itself never happens.
I can't remember "when" he took the policy; if he took quantity when the ottomans were still allies then it wasn't a bad choice and this is only hindsight talking. But if he took the policy after the alliance dropped then I do think the smarter thing would have been Diplomatic in that context.

@@rowanmales3430 man it was a headache to read this but I did..anyway I did this challenge -no in ironman- and took quantity but that was in previous game version and it worked ottomans ended their alliance with me anyway but never declare war...quantity makes your army cheaper to maintain which means you will recruit more
also he should've never fallen behind in mil tech (he needed some luck maybe with rulers)...imo he should've had Iraq as a vassal

@@Al-Basha_ Well, every game is different. I wasn't claiming it was impossible to do it, just that in his specific circumstances with the Ottomans actively hostile and alliances failing left and right quantity didn't seem like it did anything worthwhile (and it certainly didn't stop him getting attacked in his version).
I should add that I don't really regard the -5% army cost reduction as that good, since that is fairly small, and you will actually end up spending signficantly more money on military when you take quantity since you will be upkeeping more troops, even if each one is very slightly less costly. This matters when your economy isn't good like here. The -5% is a lot better when you have a large nation with 80-90k+ troops because it becomes quite substantial in ducats when you reach large numbers, I wouldn't have thought it that relevant in his playthrough.
You are absolutely right that he screwed himself with a mil tech disadvantage (against early game Ottomans at that!!), and it is noteworthy that all his allies were below mil tech too. That might not have helped, and I missed that myself lol.
Lastly, I just want to say that however helpful you thought quantity was in your setup, you probably need to reduce that helpfulness by 33% in the new update version he is playing. Quantity got hit with major nerfs with both Manpower and Forcelimit being halved from increases of +50% to increases of +25% instead. I would say half your perceived advantages, but the other less important modifiers are still there so...
Anyway I didn't expect you to actually try it so good on you. I was only going by theory, but predicting the ai is hardly foolproof.

I had to try for myself. Ottomans beat me to conquering egypt but i managed to ally austria mid 1500's and it was easy after that. (no to mention the austrians got a PU on spain, after which it became speed 5 to the finish lolz). Also, having Timurids _> Mughals as an ally for almost all the game did nothing for me. They refused to join against the ottomans the entire game.

As for holland, why not be Hol-y and conquer the Papal States?
