- Q: What does a Marine Corps veteran, former police officer, former firefighter, motivational speaker, and international touring comedian all have in common?
A: They all live inside this week’s most entertaining guest, Travis Howze.
Travis has come from a horrific experience as a firefighter when nine of his “brothers” were killed in a building collapse. He volunteered for the recovery team that pulled the bodies from the smoking building, causing him to sink deeply into post-traumatic stress disorder and alcoholism.
After Travis’ incredible defeat of his PTSD, he has had a successful career in comedy and authored Create Your Own Light, an encouragement to stay in the fight and to never quit.

“I Had a stripper aunt, and this is a true story” that’s golden
It’s incredibly important that you guys are helping others. When I was 14, our neighbor had came back from Nam. He had a wife he beat and a 2 year old son, he’d tie up in a ball, hang in a tree and throw a machete at. Some VC torture thing. People would call the police, but he’d take off for a few days, so he never got arrested. One day when his wife was at work, he laid down on the couch and put a shot gun under his chin. Her and the boy walked in on that. Back then, nobody did a thing. It was just , ‘ya, too bad, he was nuts.’ A lady actually said to my mom ‘so glad he’s finally gone. We thought he was going to murder everyone on the block’. I learned young about veterans, their drug use and their mental illness. We watched it for months. But people were helpless. His parents tried to get him in a mental hospital and he almost killed his dad. It’s different now. And for veterans to come forward and let other vets know- it’s ok to get help - might save most of these guys and their families.

I completely screwed my back at 29 stumps! Running at a full sprint to a fighting position with my 60 and hit a hole twisted like a pretzel.
I do tires brakes and oil changes for police officers I like each and every one of them and they like me I take pride in my job simply because me being proficient in my job has everything to do with me doing my part at keeping them safe
