So she was probably reflecting on her age prior to her and Ty's transformation, back when she would've been sixteen. During their adventures I always imagined them as being in their late to mid-20s, especially given how mature and angular Cloak's face is drawn.
Cloak and dagger were very underrated. Always was. Even when they brought them into the MCU, that show rarely gets brought up. And I thought it was one of the better shows they ever produced.
I would love to believe that was the intention, but Dagger makes that 16 comment several times in early runs (while ty's age is never really alluded to) They fully acknowledge how revealing her costume is as well, going as far as comparing her to a hooker in one issue
I agree that Tandy was referring to her childhood pre-powers. In this series, I had also assumed that they both were 19-20, and Peter was 22-23 because Peter gives a lot of big brother vibes to Cloak & Dagger. But you know how age is in comics, 5 yrs equals 3 months in comics time.
Never known too much about them outside of tv cameos and small stuff, so since Rivals came out and I tried to look around for their story and it shocked me that they weren't canonically dating for such a long time, I always assumed that they're whole gimmick was boyfriend/girlfriend superhero duo
Nice to see more people appreciating some of my favorite characters, but you missed something that’s commonly forgotten. Dagger’s powers have a similar downside to Cloak’s in that she needs to release her light regularly and if she doesn’t the excess energy makes her jittery and impulsive. Both of their drawbacks are meant to resemble symptoms of addiction and withdrawal. There’s a codependency aspect of them that’s very messy and interesting
IIRC she could quite literally explode too if the pent up charge is big enough, and not a small explosion either, lightforce may have naturally healing capabilities but because it constantly stimulates growth it can very much "burn" things by excess exposure, especially people.
When this man says, "this is one of the best runs", trust me when I say: he means it Dagger is the "shoot first, ask questions later" and Cloak is the beyond pacifist one...their arc is thaf Dagger learns to be the light and then... Look, you know that question: Whats scarier, Batman who laughs or quiet Spider-Man? When Cloak is ready to go there, be scared. Once you've pissed Cloak off to where he don't care, watch out
I always had a deep fascination with Cloak and Dagger cause let's be honest here, they look so cool. Took me years to finally read their first mini series and I gotta say I wasn't expecting the level of seriousness they tackled. I was expecting a more traditional superhero romp of sort. It was a very good read. Honestly, my favorite thing about them minus the cool factor is there sort of Yin/Yang, light/darkness, opposite dynamic they have. It's cliché sure but Cloak and Dagger make it really work with how they interact and speak to one another. That combined with the more mature themes I feel makes their dynamic even better.
I'm really hoping C&D's popularity in Rivals gets Marvel to think about reprinting Volume 1 of their omnibus. It's super hard to find. It probably didn't sell particularly well, but now with the popularity of the game, i'm sure people are wanting to check them out!
It's a shame that Marvel did little with Cloak and Dagger other than having them act as the ghost in the machine a few times, cloak during Civil War, as you mentioned, and Dagger during the King in Black story arc
Agreed. I wish Marvel Comics and other media actually acknowledged them more. At least they got a show and are playable in Rivals. Also great that Cloak and Dagger are now an officially lovers after the Savage Avengers storyline.

Vigilantes cannot have or play with good comic book villains much...because they are killers. Still, Cloak & Dagger really would have been better served with a little more standard comic fare in that regard, yes indeed. They were indeed a very different book, an extravagance to teen me. Later on it was (almost) wholly Dr Strange that had me still buying Strange Tales

Cloak & Dagger were THE SAME as Punisher, just super powered as opposed to military training & modern weaponry...that is what makes it so much worse...fine for imaginary super powers, it was clearly GUNS that made it "beyond the pale/I will destroy this character" for Mantlo
I could definitely see the kind of transformation between their first introductions and how they are now. Rivals I was surprise they kept the spirit of the two characters in tact. Cloak is more imposing but you can see he is rather gentle. And Dagger is definitely graceful but very aggressive. And the two together definitely shows the best in both of them. Kind of a Hades and Persephone dynamic between the two of them, which is probably what they are going with back then.
Really great video talking about Cloak and Dagger. I like the duo too so it’s nice you helped me learn more about them. Also happy how recently thanks to Marvel Rivals and the Savage Avengers team they were apart of, Ty & Tandy are an official couple now. I really hope they stay a couple. I rock them on rivals and chose them as my mains in the Strategist category because I've been a Spidey Reader since the mid 90's. That said my first exposure to them was in Maximum Carnage and also the game of the same name. I think around that time period they were pretty well fleshed out. I did find anything before that pretty oddball here and there, a lot of which was mentioned in this vid. Cool character in rivals though
In general Cloak and Dagger have a complicated story and relationship. Because of their respective forces (the Lightforce and Darkforce) they can never really be apart from one another, as they are direct counterparts to the other and can not exist without eachother. This became a genuine issue for them not only in their professional lives but also in their romantic and personal lives. I could go on and on about Cloak and Dagger’s long, extensive history but it’s better when you find out their story on your own. Try reading their debut issue, IIRC it’s an Amazing Spider-Man issue and then you can check out their actual debut story. Also the Cloak and Dagger show was genuinely good and gave a different perspective on their relationship. I should mention that some iterations of Tandy Bowen (Dagger) portray her as a drug addict and that’s yet another reason that complicated her relationship with Tyrone.

my favs are the early PP:TSS-M ones, but if i refresh my mind on the later stuff, I know there are a few I also liked. probably pre-90's, because in the 90's they usually were guest stars showing up or helping out in events (infinity gauntlet, maximum carnage, etc)
you skipped Marvel Team-Up Annual #6 (new mutants, spider-man, cloak & dagger); then after what you cover as PP:TSS-M again, new mutants 22-25, power pack 6-8, marvel fanfare 19 THEN their own series, and it goes into Strange Tales
I really enjoyed those early appearances in PP:TSS-M, bought them as they came out (nice experimental cover art in that era too!). Glad to meet someone else that loved the art there as I did...never heard it get props before. Sexy dagger never bothered me, though she got woman-hood over girlhood RIGHT fast (and underage didn't matter to me as I was younger still! I was 11!) it was odd, art wise, neither seemed a teen in appearance
Cloak and dagger are extremely underrated! Both in the comic books and in other media. I thought the live action show featuring the characters was one of the better TV shows the MCU had produced. It’s a shame it didn’t get a third season.
I have no interest or love in marvel rivals, and the characters all look bad to me, but they are bringing attention to old, abused or ignored characters, so good on it
Coconut are underrated but they're really cool superhero duo The only thing I hate is how Marvel went back and took away their powers you know retconned it as to oh they're not mutants who got their ex gene experiment on it was old some experimentation I gave him their powers which I would have just preferred it being the mutant gene being messed with that unlock their powers differently than what they originally were because I just feel like I understand it's a appeared in Spider-Man or whatever but they are still like kind of like mutant characters that are just not part of the X-Men and it's okay to have mutant characters that aren't part of the X-Men. But I did like the cloaking dagger series I just felt like it was underrated The only thing about that show is that you know Cloak and Dagger barely had costumes Yeah you gave Cloak the cloaking gave Dagger her light daggers but that was about it and it kind of sucks that they weren't able to go past two seasons honestly. And I think they would have been great in Web of Shadows that would have been nice to see them and I would have loved to see them show up more in the Spider-Man books because they did show up often and then they just stopped showing up by the time we got to the early 2000s
It's really ironic because Cloak is a genuinely nice chill guy. Ty is selfless and basically a pacifist half the time, Dagger does most of the paindealing
Ultimate Spider-Man introduced me to these characters but i just never really vibed with them in also never gave their TV show a chance as that era of marvel tv was 😬 in quality Inhumans was garbage and AOS turned into some convoluted mess. Its cool that people like them/their duality and reliance on eachother/the themes of addiction is all cool stuff but i don't think I'll get into them any deeper than that.
Tbh keep overlooking them fir my money, this is one of the more fundamentally ass core concepts for a character I’ve seen whether or not they managed to put decent stories behind it

They are not even close to the most under rated marvel duo.... west coast avengers, great lakes avengers, x force all had way more under rated teams like most people don't think or know about mr. Immortal and flatman work great with eachother like a cap and ironman team up or shit even squirrel girl and tippy toe was more under rated before all the non comic readers seen her in rivals and were "who is she"
Mantlo did good comics but that Punisher bit was MONSTROUS and evil of him. Punisher is hated by so many (shitlib?) writers at marvel it's mind boggling. He is a character I've long past been done with, as the left wing loon writers hate him and make him monstrous, or they are far right nazi type writers that also make monstrous, vile comics. The relatively simple, revenge driven vigilante is beyond comic book writers, ideologues all, apparently. He was always tied to Vietnam anyway, so his time has passed. Certainly yankee imperial wars create endless opportunity for similar characters or updates though...Netflix did a great job. A rare character the movies & TV will always handle better than the comics now (though there was a time when comics were sometimes, even often, good...the Mantlo madness was retconned away quick enough)
Yes she's 16 but guess what so was Daphne from Scooby Doo, hell Velma was 15. Most Teens you saw back then were just that... Teens and they were drawn like Teens. Some were Skinny and Gawky like Kitty Pride and some broght the Vavoom like Dagger. But hey guess what the TARGET audience for the Comix were? Teens! The reason I love the X-Factor version of Jean Grey and Dagger's looks so much is cause I was exposed too them as an eleven years old. My younger self greatly approved. Cloak is more imposing but you can see he is rather gentle. And Dagger is definitely graceful but very aggressive. And the two together definitely shows the best in both of them. Kind of a Hades and Persephone dynamic between the two of them, which is probably what they are going with back then.
Really great video talking about Cloak and Dagger. I like the duo too so it’s nice you helped me learn more about them. Also happy how recently thanks to Marvel Rivals and the Savage Avengers team they were apart of, Ty & Tandy are an official couple now. I really hope they stay a couple. Btw I’m curious if possible you can go over more of their stories such as when they met the Power Pack and also the Savage Avengers team they were a part of where they become an official couple.

I rock them on rivals and chose them as my mains in the Strategist category because I've been a Spidey Reader since the mid 90's. That said my first exposure to them was in Maximum Carnage and also the game of the same name. I think around that time period they were pretty well fleshed out. I did find anything before that pretty oddball here and there, a lot of which was mentioned in this vid. Cool character in rivals though
In general Cloak and Dagger have a complicated story and relationship. Because of their respective forces (the Lightforce and Darkforce) they can never really be apart from one another, as they are direct counterparts to the other and can not exist without eachother. This became a genuine issue for them not only in their professional lives but also in their romantic and personal lives. I could go on and on about Cloak and Dagger’s long, extensive history but it’s better when you find out their story on your own. Try reading their debut issue, IIRC it’s an Amazing Spider-Man issue and then you can check out their actual debut story. Also the Cloak and Dagger show was genuinely good and gave a different perspective on their relationship. I should mention that some iterations of Tandy Bowen (Dagger) portray her as a drug addict and that’s yet another reason that complicated her relationship with Tyrone.

my favs are the early PP:TSS-M ones, but if i refresh my mind on the later stuff, I know there are a few I also liked. probably pre-90's, because in the 90's they usually were guest stars showing up or helping out in events (infinity gauntlet, maximum carnage, etc)

I really enjoyed those early appearances in PP:TSS-M, bought them as they came out (nice experimental cover art in that era too!). Glad to meet someone else that loved the art there as I did...never heard it get props before.
Sexy dagger never bothered me, though she got woman-hood over girlhood RIGHT fast (and underage didn't matter to me as I was younger still! I was 11!)

Cloak and dagger are extremely underrated! Both in the comic books and in other media. I thought the live action show featuring the characters was one of the better TV shows the MCU had produced. It’s a shame it didn’t get a third season.

Coconut are underrated but they're really cool superhero duo The only thing I hate is how Marvel went back and took away their powers you know retconned it as to oh they're not mutants who got their ex gene experiment on it was old some experimentation I gave him their powers which I would have just preferred it being the mutant gene being messed with that unlock their powers differently than what they originally were because I just feel like I understand it's a appeared in Spider-Man or whatever but they are still like kind of like mutant characters that are just not part of the X-Men and it's okay to have mutant characters that aren't part of the X-Men. But I did like the cloaking dagger series I just felt like it was underrated The only thing about that show is that you know Cloak and Dagger barely had costumes Yeah you gave Cloak the cloaking gave Dagger her light daggers but that was about it and it kind of sucks that they weren't able to go past two seasons honestly. And I think they would have been great in Web of Shadows that would have been nice to see them and I would have loved to see them show up more in the Spider-Man books because they did show up often and then they just stopped showing up by the time we got to the early 2000s

It's really ironic because Cloak is a genuinely nice chill guy. Ty is selfless and basically a pacifist half the time, Dagger does most of the paindealing

Ultimate Spider-Man introduced me to these characters but i just never really vibed with them in also never gave their TV show a chance as that era of marvel tv was 😬 in quality Inhumans was garbage and AOS turned into some convoluted mess. Its cool that people like them/their duality and reliance on eachother/the themes of addiction is all cool stuff but i don't think I'll get into them any deeper than that.
Tbh keep overlooking them fir my money, this is one of the more fundamentally ass core concepts for a character I’ve seen whether or not they managed to put decent stories behind it

They are not even close to the most under rated marvel duo.... west coast avengers, great lakes avengers, x force all had way more under rated teams like most people don't think or know about mr. Immortal and flatman work great with eachother like a cap and ironman team up or shit even squirrel girl and tippy toe was more under rated before all the non comic readers seen her in rivals and were "who is she"
Mantlo did good comics but that Punisher bit was MONSTROUS and evil of him. Punisher is hated by so many (shitlib?) writers at marvel it's mind boggling. He is a character I've long past been done with, as the left wing loon writers hate him and make him monstrous, or they are far right nazi type writers that also make monstrous, vile comics. The relatively simple, revenge driven vigilante is beyond comic book writers, ideologues all, apparently. He was always tied to Vietnam anyway, so his time has passed. Certainly yankee imperial wars create endless opportunity for similar characters or updates though...Netflix did a great job. A rare character the movies & TV will always handle better than the comics now (though there was a time when comics were sometimes, even often, good...the Mantlo madness was retconned away quick enough)

Yes she's 16 but guess what so was Daphne from Scooby Doo, hell Velma was 15. Most Teens you saw back then were just that... Teens and they were drawn like Teens. Some were Skinny and Gawky like Kitty Pride and some broght the Vavoom like Dagger. But hey guess what the TARGET audience for the Comix were? Teens! The reason I love the X-Factor version of Jean Grey and Dagger's looks so much is cause I was exposed too them as an eleven years old. My younger self greatly approved. So stop with the Moralizing, it's pathetic.
It is true that these books were aimed at teenagers. That being said, it is still weird to write about Spider-Man who is in his early twenties talking about how hot a 16 year old is. They probably wouldn't write that today, lol.
