Once again great work Nate!! I went to school in NYC for 4 years and seeing homeless people on my way to school and coming back home used to break my heart everyday. I have tried to help some homeless with little money here and there but that wasn’t not enough. Thank you so much for being their voice. Hopefully your video reaches to the right people and new Govt can take some action. Once again keep up the great work!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

There are various reasons why they don’t get benefits. I worked for the State for years. We had people come in who asked for help, but we couldn’t help them. They refuse actual shelters when available. They want to be able to do as they wish, stay out all night, do drugs, drink and absolutely no job searching each day as required. Under the bridge isn’t an address the State will accept to approve benefits like SNAP, etc. Some would come in and say they qualify for SSDI, but they have no address or they have a payee they don’t want to deal with. Mostly because they don’t want to give up drugs. Even those with mental issues know they don’t want to give up their drugs. It’s very sad.

Thanks Nate for going on the street to interview our homeless Citizens. How do we fix the problem? Most would say just allocate money to the problem and it will go away. Sadly we know that this doesn't work. The funds always end up in the hands of the greedy and the homeless get no benefit from the funds.
This is a social problem with our society. It will take much more than just money alone to fix the problem. Our homeless need a port of refuge that provides job training and temporary housing until they can support themselves. There are some places that offer this, maybe we need more?
Then you will have other homeless that live that way by choice. Our goal should be to help those willing to work to get off the street and provide assistance to as many people as possible. Keep up the good work, enjoy your videos!!

The best solution to end homelessness is affordable housing. The powers that be are not interested to end this problem. The shelter staffs makes a lot of money while mistreating the poor at the same time. At the end of the day, most people are in it for themselves. As an individual who spent time in the streets and a long time in the shelter system I know how difficult it is. For anyone who are experiencing homelessness at the moment, put your trust in God and never give up.

It doesn’t make sense that we have these poor people living on the streets that were raised in America and yet we are providing shelter, food and healthcare to people from other countries. There must be a way to help these poor people. And there should be away to have the shelters provide safe places, good food and programs for rehabilitation and self sufficiency. I hope that there will be mass changes in the upcoming administration. I’m more hopeful than I’ve been in a very long time 🙏

@ It may have been; however, that doesn’t change the fact that a coat with exorbitant value is being worn while interviewing people who have nothing. While highlighting the horrible plight people are facing, the interviewer wearing a coat that is that expensive whether it was a gift or he paid for it is optically a miss. We aren’t talking about The North Face. The value of a Moncler coat is typically $1,500 or more. Wearing it when highlighting the financial & housing plight of homeless persons is off. You missed the point if you thought my concern is that he paid for it. It’s the fact that it was worn at all - in light of the subject matter - regardless of whether or not it was a gift or it was a promotion or he paid for it.

You always do such a nice job, Nate. ☺You ask open-ended questions & dive into people's responses with 'more' questions, unlike many interviewers who just drop the questioning. Thanks for what you do & how you handle yourself! I have years of a particular type of experience with people who live on the streets. Too much for a YT comment, I'm afraid. Suffice it to say, the folks you interviewed in this video do not seem unusual. Some folks have difficulty (like these men, often extreme) managing responsibilities. It's not always upbringing, though you might assume so. Although it may sound trite of me to narrow it down to 'cannot manage responsibilities,' in my opinion, this is the bottom rung of the issue. There are MANY reasons for being unable/unwilling to accept personal responsibility; from mental health issues to situational (acute or crisis) events. Thanks again, be safe, happy new year to you!

I am sure there are a lot of homeless people that once were not homeless, they worked. If they are able, there should be a way for them to receive their social security. Maybe put out P.O. Boxes specifically for homeless so they have an address. Also, if there are individuals that are blessed with money or businesses, they should search through the homeless to see if there are people with skill sets that meet their companies needs.

It’s pretty difficult to tell them apart. If you believe everything they say, you’re going to learn you shouldn’t have. They are experienced street hustlers. Homeless, drug addicted, alcohol abusing, mentally ill street hustlers. I have moved heaven and earth to help many of them. After a few doses of reality, I finally accepted the reality of life.

Even though they have 3 different stories they are still in the same category. They are substance abusers. They need help mentally and substance abuse help. A lot of them choose to not get help. Too hard. Then you have people that are working and can’t make enough to afford a place and then the depression sets in. The way the system works is these 3 men become priority over those who are functioning everyday. Something has to give here.

Denied by many here, but the absolute truth. I worked with the State for decades. I saw this often. It was always the same. The mental illness could take a minute to realize, but drug use and refusal to follow societal rules was a given. It was never wrong. Not once.

When they closed the mental hospitals and put the people onto the streets rather than fixing the disgusting conditions in the hospitals things may have been difficult today. Maybe.

@galegrazutis964 That is true, in a way. There is also the law of supply and demand, which teaches that the existence of a supply CREATES demand. The increase of a supply INCREASES demand, UNTIL there is a PUBLIC EDUCATION campaign AGAINST that supply based on REVELATION OF TRUTH of its actual harm, such as the seat belt campaign in the 70s and the anti-smoking (due to cancer linkage) movement in the 80s. Seatbelts were available, creating a mild demand, but people are dumb. They need persuasion to DO what's right and make it a good habit. They also need persuasion to BREAK a bad habit, such as smoking. Just talking about it doesn't do. The real TRUTH about the tobacco lobbies and seatbelt death stats... MADE A DIFFERENCE! Today, we're just talking about the border and fentynal... not enough persuasive action is being taken.

The bureaucracy around disabilities and homelessness is absurd, time consuming and completely disorienting for a high functioning individual.
For someone struggling, with no address and no support, it is impossible without complete reform, dismantling and fully transparent spending of the multiple agencies tasked to care for these vulnerable individuals. The legal framework set up by Medicaid, Insurance companies, and government is so questionable, I have no doubt the $$ is being laundered and given to the “professionals” rather than those who genuinely need help. Shelters are hubs for crime: not the answer.
Rehabs, apartments with care workers (paid a decent salary), hospitals, mental health and otherwise should be beholden to their patients…NOT Insurance companies, government or administrators.

The first man qualifies for disability The solution to homelessness is simple take it back to the old days when vagrancy was a crime nobody sleeping in public places the vagrant will get a choice to go not rehab or jail their choice we need to build much more recovery and drug rehab places Tax payers would much rather pay for rehab than just giving tax payers money to programs that obviously do not work

I don’t care about people living on the streets who are there because of their various addictions, veteran or not.
Number one, no one working a full time job should be homeless. There’s far more than a million homeless. Many people who work full time jobs are forced to live out of their cars. They are the homeless you don’t see. As well as seniors.
The people in the video aren’t telling their whole story.
