It's not all the fault of this country. Some of these people have been making bad financial decisions their whole lives. They get their "financial advice" from advertisements.
You can't blame others for your situation. We have no control over what happens to us, just how we respond. Gig jobs are not going to get you ahead. Because you have no kitchen you spend crazy amounts on fast food. Where there's a will there's a way, didn't mean it'll be easy or you'll come out unscathed. But anyone can overcome any adversity with persistence.
it used to be that most homeless people were drug addicts, gamblers or unemployed people. now you can work 2 jobs and still can’t afford an apartment. this country is done.
Most homeless people were families, seniors, vets, and working people who couldn't afford rents. In the 1980s I remember reading about middle class families living in their cars.
Just found out yesterday my brother been living in his car for 3months..😢. He said they went up on his rent and he simply can't afford it, as this deplete his entire check. I felt bad because he didnt tell me, as I live in another state. He said he did not feel right as a man to ask me for help. Although he refuse to accept help, I told him my door is always open. To all, please be kind to people, and help when you can. Its getting harder to live.
I hope your dear brother relents soon and accepts your help. Try to impress on him that if he stays with you until he gets back on his feet, helping with expenses when he's able to get a job, then YOU will be in HIS spiritual debt. Put your wits together and you might be able to find something he could do at your home as an independent contractor or a side gig. That might help with his understandably bruised ego. Multi-generational co-housing used to be a regular thing. And I applaud you for being a good brother.
That’s awful…I’m so sorry that happened…I don’t have a lot but if I could help in any way, please let me know…no one should have to experience homelessness especially in the winter..
@@ki11aqueen5 - I know. But it's a FALSE narrative that needs to go the way of horse and buggy. A narrative meant to create and maintain a cowed servant class. The unassimilated immigrants, for instance; America NEEDS them, they're a blessing and given half a chance they dig in and work hard to contribute to the country. They do jobs that just about no established citizen will touch. Their labor serves us all, and w/o them we'll tumble into a headspin economically. But what does smug society do but kick down on them if they can't speak good English all the while refusing to provide ESL classes. Damned if they do and damned if they don't, no matter which way they turn. And as a society we're not much better to the native born. The rich don't make wealth. Labor does! And it's to a society's benefit to level the playing field; if anyone thinks it is already, they've got blinders on. So whatever your personal situation, know that you're worthy and have no cause to feel lesser than anyone else. yup. tbh i feel much worse for people who actually had legitimate houses that they owned and lost, even if sold they're broke, now they really deserved better. but bs like this is one of innumerable reasons i won't live in a city or apartment, can't trust those. there's far more options even if renting a house,so people who rent rooms in a human zoo don't get much sympathy from me.
This is normal in almost every other country, America expects young adults to move out at 18. Multigenerational homes are more likely to save more money and even time for other activities. It should be normalized honestly.
my home is multigenerational.. my son is 22 and my parents are in their 70s and im 44... we do what my parents cant due to age around the house and we all help with food and costs like gas and electricity.. we all live a minimalistic life style so its not a big deal to us 😊

People will have to accept the possibility that we won't ever return to 3%. If sellers must sell, home prices will have to decline, and lower evaluations will follow. Sure I'm not alone in my chain of thoughts.
Well i think, home prices will need to fall by at least 40% before the market normalizes. If you do not know whether to buy a house or not, it is best you seek guidance from a well-experienced advisor for proper portfolio allocation. So far, that’s how I’ve stayed afloat over 5 years now, amassing nearly $1m in return on investments.

I don't really know which firm to work with; I feel they are all the same but it seems you’ve got it all worked out with the firm you work with so i surely wouldn’t mind a recommendation.
Finding financial advisors like Rebecca Lynne Buie who can assist you shape your portfolio would be a very creative option. There will be difficult times ahead, and prudent personal money management will be essential to navigating them.
I hope we all know that it doesn't matter who is in the 'top job' because this is a systemic problem -- greed. We have allowed many of our economic sectors, to take advantage of the American people. It's disgusting and frightening for the future of our country. My husband and I will be retiring in the next two years n another country. We are absolutely worried that SS! will no longer be funded. we'll have to rely on his pension, a 403 (b) and a very prolific Investment account with Stephanie Janis Stiefel my FA. Our national debt is bloating and expanding every month. Our government needs to get spending under control and cut the federal budget.
I know this lady you just mentioned. Stephanie Janis Stiefel is a portfolio manager and investment advisor. She gained recognition as an employee of neuberger berman; a renowned investor she is. Stephanie Janis Stiefel has demonstrated expertise in investment strategies and has been involved in managing portfolios and providing guidance to clients.
I’m planning on moving to Thailand in the next 5 years if trump’s government doesn’t do anything with the high prices of groceries and taxes What about you??
I’m in Ohio and the housing market here over the last 7-8 years is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Homes that were bought for $130K in 2015 are now being sold for $590k. I’m talking about tiny, disgusting, poorly built 950 square foot shit boxes in quiet mediocre neighbourhoods. Then you’ve got Better, average sized homes in nicer neighbourhoods that were $300K+ 10 years ago selling for $750k+ now. Wild times.
Home prices will come down eventually, but for now; get your money (as much as you can) out of the housing market and get into the financial markets or gold. The new mortgage rates are crazy, add to that the recession and the fact that mortgage guidelines are getting more difficult. Home prices will need to fall by a minimum of 40% (more like 50%) before the market normalizes. If you are in cross roads or need sincere advise on the best moves to take now its best you seek an independent advisor who knows about the financial markets.
Personally, I can connect to that. When I began working with a fiduciary financial counsellor, my advantages were certain. I got into the market early 2019 and the constant downtrends and losses discouraged me so I sold off, got back in Dec 2021 this time with guidance, Long story short, its been 2years now and I’ve gained over a million dollars following guidance from my investment adviser.
This is huge! think you can point me towards the direction of your advisor? been looking at advisory management myself.. seeking ways to invest and make more money with the uncertainty in the economy.
Certainly, there are a handful of experts in the field. I've experimented with a few over the past years, but I've stuck with ‘’Aileen Gertrude Tippy’’’ for about five years now, and her performance has been consistently impressive. She’s quite known in her field, look-her up.
Insightful... I curiously looked up her name on the internet and I found her site, which I reviewed and went through to learn more about her credentials, academic background, and employment. She has a fiduciary duty to protect my best interests. I sent her an email outlining my objectives and also booked a session with her; thanks for sharing.

What about Hotels? Sometimes just 2-3 nights a week can help. My brother was homeless for a short time after his divorce, but he was working, and he stayed in Hotels and his car, and it helped him get back on his feet, and now he is doing great!!
@P2Feener305 So it's the everyday Americans' fault for rising rent cost, food cost, and overall inflation with no increases in livable wages from jobs for the last 4 decades?
It is very common to see kids in this reality. Here is the problem: After COVD many of the landlords nationwide and when seeing that many people had to stay at home and many could not pay rent ( Moratorium) decided to ask people to make 3 times the rent and this unlawful policy is what keep people homeless. The majority of people make barely 1800 a month. When someone wants to rent a home that cost 800 (800x3=2400) if you do not make 2400 a month you cannot rent. In addtion and important factor there is no inventory of homes for rent. Much of the homes you can find are from the 50's 60's 70's and are few, old, and needs repair. Still people put homes like this for rent making tenants sick. So, it is expensive, much places are not worth the price, there is no availability and abusive ruling and pricing. This lady needs a big home for all her children and it will cost her a fortune under the current housing market to find something good for her.
Where is the father? No one has asked that question but me. This man got this woman pregnant 3 times and he's nowhere in the picture. What kind of father does that to their kids? This man got his kids living in a car. OMG. Is he sick or did he pass away because I don't see the father?
She doesn't have a husband. I don't want to judge her, and I don't know why she has 3 children and doesn't have a husband, but a lot of women are going to have to stay married for financial reasons. Pooling resources saves a lot of time and money compared to dividing them. If she had a husband, she wouldn't have to work so hard, and she'd probably have a house or apartment to live in.
This terrifies me and it’s a direct result of corporate greed. Many CEOs have realized mass layoffs is the easy button for short term stock price growth while having no consideration for the lives they’ll disrupt. No one is safe. I don’t take my job for granted. As my salary has increased I’ve kept my expenses the same, even spending less.
One thing I've looked at is "Who is buying the housing?". The reports are saying more and more single family houses are being bought and paid with CASH! It's "Corporate". If they pay in cash the buyer closes earlier and gets their money faster. This IS corporate greed! A lot of the 401K companies are investing in real estate because it's safe. But some are paying cash outright and buying above the asking price to gobble them up. The sellers really need to take a stand and ONLY sell to individual families. But I think the damage is already done with the homeless pop just growing and growing. SOMETHING needs to be done! The rich FAT CATS in DC are unaware of what it feels like to be homeless and to actually go to the grocery store and buy groceries on a budget!
Corporations are milking as much as they can before shit hits the fan. That’s why they went mass immigration both skilled and unskilled, creates more debt slaves and lowers wages.
@@Austin-wz5xk More than that. You need to realize that all of these jobs were actually way better paying before the union and mass unskilled worker epidemic. In the time of Caesar Chavez being a minimum wage worker was actually liveable, trade unions had less control over apprenticeships and schools, politicians did not go on picketlines. Reminder that every 15% increase in union wages hurts the minimum wage jobs by 4%. This is a real study and quoted by Friedman all the time.
I got an apartment that took forever to get. After I moved in and settled, I decided to not decorate. Not to buy anything to make my space, MY SPACE because I am tired. I cant even enjoy my space because I work everyday. The one day I get off, I still feel restless because I am thinking of Monday. Go back to work and do what? Some ppl are not able to work due to health issues! If people who are working and they still can't afford the rent. Basically, they will end up in homeless shelters!!!
Most people on social security come from the relatively small demographic who truly can't work. That said even if they could the entry of that many people into the labor market would only increase downward pressure across the board.

This is an aspect of homelessness that people don't see. Because these are functional members of society who often have jobs, they go completely unnoticed by society. All people see when they think of homelessness are violent drug addicts stepping over needles in the street or the mentally ill. The reality is that Millennials have been dealing with this for over 15 years. Many of them have been in and out of living in their cars. Most of us are still trying to play catch up even if we do have places to live. Some Millennials have children. Some Gen Xers are also dealing with this. I’m an LVN in Houston. I have one child. I live in my car. Rosharon to Channelview…full of homeless people. I simply can’t afford 1100-1450 for a 1bdrm apt. That’s with roaches.

Rent would be 150% of my income where I live. I own a house but the utilities and property/school taxes all cost $1,200/month for a small starter home. Deregulated utilities went up from the $80-150/month bills. Soaring to $200-$350/month for each utility as a mandatory minimum due to the rapacious corporations that now own them. Deregulated garbage and sewer jumped from $48/month to $100/month here. Internet is a monopoly owned by comcast that offers 300 Mbps or 1,200 Mbps. One is $35/month and they throttle it down to 100-200 Mbps frequently. The other is outrageously unaffordable and overly excessive speed. At $135/month for 1,200 Mbps, so you get screwed one way or another regardless of which you select. The house needs a MASSIVE amount of work. So I live out of just the upstairs at present. It was either that or become homeless instead.
Everything just keeps going up except wages. I have a paid off 100 year old duplex and half the rent each month goes to water/garbage, insurance and taxes…there is no getting ahead anymore. And now the richest man in the world, that we subsidize, wants to “cut the budget” 😡 This country has been sold out.
Ummmm cutting Govt spending would reduce our national debt. You a ding dong? You keep spending more, and creating astronomical will solve issues? lol that is how we got here in the first place. I can't believe how naive Harris supporters are!
@ you honestly think the incoming administration is going to give a damn about housing homeless people?! 😳 Pretty sure they despise them and believe they deserve their situation as much as they believe the government should subsidize them!
The problem is that in order to have "permanent roof" with amenities like electricity, gas and water, either the tenant or the owner must somehow pay insurance and property taxes. As a result, a lot of people live in tents, at least in California, where I presently dwell. Not a single mortgage, tax, rent, or insurance. It amazes me how many folks I meet who tell me they live in their cars. This place is insane!
It's becoming more and more insane by the day. Mortgage rates have been rising steadily (already over 7%). I often wonder if I should put my extra money into the stock market and wait for a housing crash, or if I should just buy a house regardless.
Such concerns also come to me. After 50, I'm retiring early. I'm already concerned about the direction the future is taking, particularly with regard to finances and making ends meet. I'm thinking about investing in the stock market for the first time as well, but how can I accomplish so considering that the market has been in disarray for much of the year?
having a brokerage advisor for investing is genius! Amidst the financial crisis in 2008, I was really having investing nightmare prior touching base with a advisor. In a nutshell, i've accrued over $2m with the help of my advisor from an initial $350k investment.

Truth. I've been a taxpayer all my life. Don't even smoke. My self-employment business of 12 years cratered. Now, I am living in my car, my stuff in storage, and studying to rewrite my class 1 tests. I had one for 17 years, but I missed renewal by a day, and the agent cold heartedly would not renew the class. And what you say is my plan. I shall overcome my present terrible predicament. People are cruel, even this close to Christmas. I am shot at nightly, at different locations where I sleep in my vehicle by bb guns. Just to harass you. To make your life even more unbearable. Don't move to Alberta unless you have a great job lined up as people wise it has gone down the tubes.
I'm having this issue right now. I can't afford a security deposit to even rent a room. I don't have a car and have been staying in halfway homes and Airbnbs. A lot of people don't realize how weird the shelter system is and how little resources there actually are to help people.
I will pray Ms Tweedy for you and your family. Something needs to be done bc many college grads are either moving back home or moving in with 2 to 3 roomates. God bless you.
Tennessee has really focused on bringing wealthier people to the state with incentives. This has pushed our rent to almost double if not more. Also, outside companies are coming in and buying up former mom and pop or locally owned apartment complexes as they hit 20 years and no longer have to provide low income housing. Also, the local developers are building homes for rent and making comments like “ apartments are the new first home”.
Not to mention every little old house where I live gets bought up by investors who may just choose to let the house set empty. I’m on the Cumberland plateau.
I noticed a California family who makes a lot of money off TH-cam vlogging relocated from California to Tennessee. Given they have no family in Tennessee, I'm guessing they moved to Tennessee so they don't have to pay income tax anymore and can have much lower property taxes.
I am a landscaper in Maine (the vacation state). I mow the lawns of mega mansions and million dollar vacation homes nobody even visits once all year. The vast majority of the lawns I mow all summer are seen by nobody, because the owners never even visit once all season. These vacation homes are three times the size of most people's regular houses, and very very modern and expensive. Cobblestone walkways, in ground pools, in ground hot tubs, tennis courts, gargantuan luxury style fire pits, bus-sized brand new RVs that never even move, lines of 4 wheelers and dirt bikes, classic cars, you name it, they got it, and they don't even live there, these are secondary fun-houses to them. These vacation homes would blow your mind and 1000 new ones pop up every single year here. I make 20 dollars an hour. I was born into poverty. This ENTIRE state has been transformed into a playground for wealthy vacationers. And Hell for everyone else. I can relate with OPs comment 100%. It's time for Fire and Pitchforks.
how about instead of praying start voting in the right people instead of people who are a part of your religion. Prayer is just the religious excuse to do nothing.
They need to address the crux of the issue and that's landlord requirements. Landlords requiring you to make 3x the rent in net income to qualify is what causing people to end up homeless. In my town the average rent for a 1 bedroom apartment is 1,800/month. That means you have to earn $5,400 a month (after taxes) to qualify and if you get a co-signer or a roommate they raise it to 5x the rent.

This is very parallel to how things are currently going in Canada. I live in the capital (Ottawa) and just saw in the news that our homeless population has doubled in the last year. There is zero housing, and what is available is at least $1800.00 for just one bedroom (+ Utilities, parking, Cable, and internet). Groceries cost 10 times what they used to. It's become impossible to ever get ahead and too many people are 1 or 2 paychecks away from homelessness.
I'm in Vancouver Canada. You are so correct. I pay 1900 for a one bed basement suite in a townhouse. Just 4 yrs ago I would see places like this going for around 1200. You can't even find a bedroom in someone's old run down house to rent for under 1000 now. Like a grand for a small room with shared kitchen and bathroom with who ever owns the house. How are we supposed to deal with rent going up say 300 to 400 minimum ever 2 years when our cheque's stay the same. Most of us are trying to just survive and keep some of our dignity.

@@CptWesker07I ran some math and your gross pay is about $1.3k per week. Assuming that 30% of that goes to paying whatever debt that you might have, you are left with $910 per week which is $3640 per month. Most places want your monthly income to be 3 times the amount of rent. Thus, 3640 divided by 3 is $1213. Financially speaking, you would qualify up to $1213 in rent. And this is assuming you have have debt obligations that take up 30% of your pay. If it’s less than that, you can qualify for more. Are there really no places renting within that range? Not even 0 bedroom 1 bath studio places?

Everything goes down to legislation and laws that gives a citizen the right to be protected or to be granted. While I am not knowlegeable about Asilum seekers or Political refugee's law, there must be something in the law that says that the USA must find them housing and gave them all the things they have had. Therefore, we need to have a law that allows all USA citizens with Affordable Housing. A law. Otherwise we will have a generation of homeless people.
First off, where do you think these newly arrived immigrants are being housed? I’ll give you a hint (in hastily built tent type cities. Unless they’re asylum seekers -you know people who fled horrific conditions). I know, I work with both the unhoused (DV and trauma clients primarily). As soon as apartments became over $2,000 per month for a 2 bed room, it became a big problem. No one on social security, disability, or some one who is working 2 jobs at minimum wage can afford that. It is even a struggle with 2 working adults and no children. The apartment and house rental has got to stop climbing so often and so high. Part of the problem is greed from landlord, but some of the problem is from higher property taxes, house and building insurance and utilities that the landlord passes on to the tenant.

People en mass need to move to the countryside and pool their money and buy larger acreage and build their own homes. Cheapest is ganged homes or apartments that share walls, to lower costs and heating bills. Set up businesses within the new communities such as baker, or other services. Pool labor such as an experienced builder, plumber, electrician so as a group your can bid on a project and complete it. Buy your supplies in bulk and on the property have a large community garden. In regards to the possibility of building, have mobil living facilities such as a 40 foot van converted to sleeping and eating so the crew doesn't have to drive away from the building site, thereby saving a lot on travel expenses. Have the community supply meals to people working away from home to lower food costs especially if the community can grow their own food. Said community should have a large greenhouse and possibly a commercial kitchen to feed and service say 100 people. A good example of people working together are the hutterite colonies. Look into incorporation to lower taxes and good financial advice to allow people to save and improve their lives.

Home prices will come down eventually, but for now; get your money (as much as you can) out of the housing market and get into the financial markets or gold. The new mortgage rates are crazy, add to that the recession and the fact that mortgage guidelines are getting more difficult.

No house, no food but still need a car. American dream.
And you all voted for it. Happy now?
People will have to accept the possibility that we won't ever return to 3%. If sellers must sell, home prices will have to decline, and lower evaluations will follow. Sure I'm not alone in my chain of thoughts.
Buy now, home prices will not go lower. If rates drop, you can refinance
The government will have no choice but to print more notes and lower interest rates.

WHAT'S called a failed society?
So it’s society’s fault you didn’t do well in school and didn’t get a real career and had to settle for minimum wage entry level jobs…..got it.
@P2Feener305 So it's the everyday Americans' fault for rising rent cost, food cost, and overall inflation with no increases in livable wages from jobs for the last 4 decades?
So these kids are attending school while living in a car? Um. ... American dream is dead.
“It’s called the American dream because you gotta be asleep to believe it”
And yet we have millions of immigrants coming here thinking they will have a better life, more opportunities.

The daddy probably in jail dead or transform into a woman.SMH
This terrifies me and it’s a direct result of corporate greed. Many CEOs have realized mass layoffs is the easy button for short term stock price growth while having no consideration for the lives they’ll disrupt.
No one is safe. I don’t take my job for granted. As my salary has increased I’ve kept my expenses the same, even spending less.
Soon they will only extreme rich and extreme poor. The middle class is dead at this point.
Better Budgeting the money we don't have is NOT the answer here. Rebellion is.
Ceo's are just employees following orders. Youre mad at the wrong people. The owners are laughing.
The house my mom bought ten years ago for $150k is now worth $312k. *But wages certainly haven't doubled in the past ten years...*
It's called getting a skill set. Retail/food service jobs were NEVER meant to be livable wage jobs, unless you moved your way up to management.

Every time when I want to complain about my life. When I look at stories like this. Lord I'm so grateful for having a roof over my head. There's always someone else who have it worse. These are the type of Americans in need of help. Instead of giving billions and millions of dollars to other countries.
I’m ts not the billions they give to other countries it’s the subsidies and tax breaks they give to corporations here
Elon needs your pocket mobey for his ticket money and he will get it

Greedy city and states officials don't want cheap housing because they'll lose out on all those property tax money...
A lot of people have said terrible things about homeless people and now they find themselves homeless. Through no fault of their own many people working and still homeless. I'm homeless disabled and can't afford rent and utilities, I don't like it and I would like to have another place to live safe and warm. God bless everyone and Merry Christmas 🎄
I'm 😢 in the same situation as you - trying to find an affordable apartment is impossible atm😢
@@Debra-q2u8k same here I’m praying to God for us I need my own place before Christmas and my birthday atleast let me have a safe place to lock my door. We all deserve a break from
This disaster
I'm so sorry to hear this. You're right also, a lot of people who are used to living a certain way are unfortunately finding themselves in the same situation. A lot of these people certainly look down on the homeless and for no reason. I've never looked down upon the homeless. We ALL deserve safely, comfort, and warmth in a home. I really wish I had money right now because I would send some to you and others, especially with it being the holidays. Unfortunately I'm looking for another job like many are💔 I pray God rains down miracles for us all in these hard times 🙏✝️
In Canada, we are having homeless seniors living on the street who work all theirs life to be unable to live / rent . It is so sad 😞.... Housing was affordable before all the rich people parking their money in housing
Trudeau brought in 4 million immigrants in the past 4 years, which is completely unsustainable.
Look into incorporation to lower taxes and good financial advice to allow people to save and improve their lives.
i am currently homeless working a full-time job. don't make enough to cover bills, car insurance, health insurance, groceries, utility bill and rent combined so i had to give up what made the most sense. i live out of my sedan and have been the last 2 years. saved up, car got destroyed... savings lost. rinse and repeat. my last drain on my savings was health related. i am doomed.
The new mortgage rates are crazy, add to that the recession and the fact that mortgage guidelines are getting more difficult.
prices will need to fall by a minimum of 40% (more like 50%) before the market normalizes. If you are in cross roads or need sincere advise on the best moves to take now its best you seek an independent advisor who knows about the financial markets.
@@PatrickLloyd- My partner’s been considering going the same route, could you share more info please on the advisor that guides you
My CFA, Sophie Lynn Carrabus is a renowned figure in her line of work. I recommend researching her credentials further. She has many years of experience and is a valuable resource for anyone looking to navigate the financial market.
Benevolence, this reference seems valid.. Just inputted her full name on my browser and found her site without sweat, 15 years of experience is certainly striking! very much appreciate it
The headline should read, "greedy landlords forcing people into shelters."
Yep because that is exactly what is happening
Landlords provide 99% of the housing in this country. Everybody wants their own apartment now, not our fault demand went up. We provide housing for people to rent. No greedier than a shop that sells people food to eat.
@MrKongatthegates it is your fault if rent went up and you're a landlord.
It's called greed. Pretty simple.
@MrKongatthegates and if you're a greedy landlord increasing rents unnecessarily and by percentages above 1-2% you're just a bad person and we don't need people like you walking around amongst the rest of society.
@@mbbno Everything doubled. Landlords have to pay double in property taxes, repair, etc. That is why rent went up.
This isn't anything new. I worked with a young girl in her 20's. She had one son and worked full-time plus some. She and her son lived in their car. She made 97 dollars over the limit of income and didn't qualify for housing or food stamps. It took her two years to get into an apartment. It's starting to happen to a lot more people and it's in the news a lot more but it's not new.
