  • Take a look at our newly built Retro Game Room. These Coin-op arcade games are mostly from the early 80s. The collection started when I left high school in 1991, with Crystal Castles. That game was followed by more and more games, most of which were stored in a U-Store-it, as the rest(25 games, all refurbished) were flooded in our house when Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005. The U-Store-it survived untouched. This arcade is built on the slab from our neighbor's home, which was torn down after Katrina, and is now part of our yard/property. Enjoy!!!

    Gosh that was like entering to heaven for me back in the 80's, i still remember all different sounds for the different games playing there at the arcade game place. The 80's were the best decade for me.

      Hi Victor,
      Yep nothing like the 80's and I don't think we'll ever see a decade like the 80's ever again in our time. The games, music, movies, TV shows, toys etc....

      Exactly, the 80's were cool, lots of cool things were introduced to the public back then, awesome music, great tv shows and unforgettable movies, yes you are completely right, the 80's were awesome!.

    I'm not usually impressed with people's game rooms because they all start to look the same after a while, but yours is more like a showroom. It looks exactly like the arcades I went to growing up. You could literally call this a museum and sell tickets. If you added anything it would be a skeeball or basketball game. Simply beautiful

    • @ouidahepburn6987
      @ouidahepburn6987  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Chris for the nice comments. My goal when we built this game room was two things:1) keep things simple and 2) Don't overcrowd the game room. I can't stand game rooms with walls covered in posters/beer neon signs/ memorabilia, as it takes away from the game room "feel". Now since this video, we have put blacklight reactive planets and stars on the ceiling, but it only goes with the space "vibe" we tried to create.

    Front Line was my "go-to" game especially when I only had a few quarters. It's pretty easy to get 20 minutes to a half hour of gameplay on a single credit. Surprised you got the "Bubbles" joystick to work. That machine used a VERY UNIQUE 49-way optical stick that doesn't age well. Easiest way to fix any machine that hums is to take the time and teach it all the words. Thanks for the tour my friend, game on! 👍 👍

      Trust me, when the family goes in there on the weekends the place is quite busy. We try to have 'family night' on Friday nights in there. You are right about the trash talking online, quite sad indeed!!

    Putting Burger time back-to-back with the Food Fight cabinet is the only change I'd make. Love those dedicated cabs where the shape conformed to the side art, especially two games about food, lol. Very nice game room!

    Needs at least an MK 1 machine. Pac Man got the video game ball rolling in 1980/1981, and Mortal Kombat reignited the craze all over again in 1992, being the first game with digitized human graphics. Otherwise, this game room is a dream !!!!!!!!!

    As I watch in complete awe... once again I feel like I am anywhere between 5-10 years old walking through the places I once loved so much. I have visited a few retro arcades, but none with as much attention to detail and well maintained/restored games as this work of art.
    Thank you so much for posting this treasure, and please consider it far more of a museum than some of the constructs referred to as arcade museums around these days.
    Just amazing!

      Thanks for the kind words. Yes, as someone who was 10 years old when these games were reaching mainstream popularity, I wanted to create the atmosphere of an early 80's arcade. This included keeping the later 80's and 90's games out of the main game area, and also not plastering the walls with posters and stuff like that. Wanted to have a simple and clean game room. Also wanted to maintain some openness to the room, so we avoided cramming as many games as we could into the area, which meant selling/giving away several games when we moved the games into the room.

    Wow! Thank you for sharing this. Absolutely gave me a nostalgic feeling watching your tour of your magic time machine. The music, the dim lights, the flashing screens and sounds of the machines! I remember playing my first arcade game in 1980... a cocktail Pac-Man at Pizza hut! Thanks again!

    Fantastic! Very heartwarming to see. And you have both Galaga and Tempest! My love for those two goes back to the early 80's and have always been my favorites. Thank you so much for sharing this. And thanks for showing a bit of what goes into their maintenance.
