I was there when my grandmother died. So yeah I know. This is a beautiful tribute to your Mom. Somehow the hurt is a little less when you know you're not alone. Thank you for that (even if I cried. We all need to sometimes)
My mother passed away last year. I remember listening to the song when it first came out. Now at the age of 60, this song hits home more. Beautiful rendition! Thank you.
My Dad showed me this song when I was about 12 and he introduced me to rock and roll and later used this song to teach me how to finger-pick on guitar. I miss him greatly. Thank you for covering this. It was beautiful.
Violet, so much to say... another beautiful rendition, your voice is amazing as always. Respect to your guitarist for getting the parts right and not overplaying it. I also loved the subdued flute/keyboard. I did recently loose someone - you brought all the feels in a respectful yet wrenching way. Love to you and your family in remembrance.
Last month my baby went, their lives are so short, watching him go was the hardest thing ive ever done, it gets better with time, but I'll always miss him, loved that dog, the song is crap imo though 😂
This is such a beautiful cover. I expected it to sound amazing because you have such a gorgeous voice and incredible talent. I didn't expect that halfway through, I was going to start sobbing thinking about how much I miss my Dad. He passed away just over two years ago; he was a music teacher and over 40 years of teaching, he enriched and improved the lives of thousands of students by sharing his love of music. At least 20 of his best students have gone on to become music teachers themselves, with many more still continuing to play music to this day. I am so proud of and the positive change he made in so many lives.
@jcbomsk5200
I know its a sad song, and it's pretty clear this is a bittersweet memory for you - but this made me happy, both the song and the video. It feels like I spend almost every summer night through the 80s listening to my dad sing this song around a campfire, and the old movie clips just reinforced that sense of memory. My dad's still with us, but now that he's in his 70s he doesn't play for fun as much any more. (He finally hit the point where he can play for money.) So this has brought back some lovely, and all-to-often absent, feelings.
What a great cover! Violet's deeper vocals add an almost haunting feel to the song with the way she brings an aura of melancholy to the lyrics. Very well done.
It is only when it ends do we realize every moment is precious. The best advice I ever received, was to regularly to just take a quick moment and look at your loved ones to solidify the moment in your mind. The next moment is never guaranteed.
You’ll probably always miss her but it gets easier . Dad died 24 years ago & I was gutted for years , it was a missed diagnosis that took him way too young & he was such a positive strong funny guy , we all still mention him at almost every get together. We all have different journeys with grief . I’m so sorry about your Mom & am sending lots of Hugs & Healing to you & this remarkable singer , LAA
Moving rendition. There is something visceral about your expression. This is coming from deep inside. Now you are using your voice as an instrument to express something beyond words.
this is special and not just because of the amazing job in doing the vocals but the memories of cam cordor tapes and all that. thank you for letting us into your family, and your past. truly a special gift to us all.
Such a beautiful cover, Violet! Back in 2019 when I was 24, my mother was diagnosed with leukemia, and I thought I was going to lose her. Thankfully she's still with us today, but it can definitely be rough seeing a loved one go through a lot!
I simply love your covers. I understand, that the music you want towrite is a different kind, but these folk, folk-rock and ballad-style songs work wonderfully with your voice, especially in the lower range. The curse of having such a great voice is, that you only need simple arrangments ;)
I lost my best friend of 20 years in 2020, just a few months shy of his 31st birthday. As long as we keep their memory alive, they're always with us. Wishing you peace❤
I really liked this video! Very spare as suits this song and yes I got the same "life is fleeting" vibe from the old vacation movies that I think you intended. As a person old enough to have heard this album on FM when it came out, I got it and of course condolences.
This is hauntingly beautiful. It's left me feeling raw as I reflect on the song that is one's life. Of those whose voices have fallen silent, and of those who may not have many verses left. And whether anyone will carry our songs in their hearts when the final note is sung.
Just as I thought. To my ears you have the perfect voice for this song Violet. Thank you for sharing it and your version of Dust in the wind with us. May you have a good one. Have fun take care
Lost my mom right before covid on August 19 2018. Her birthday is this Sunday and the pain doesn't go away just hurts little less. This is a song we use to listen to when I was growing up watching the storms come in over the mountains. She would wake me up at 2 am and we would sit on the porch with the radio on watching the lighting from said storms. One of my favorite memory's of us together.
My father passed away last year. The home videos that are part of the imagery remind me of all of the photos my father took when we were growing up. Same feeling of holidays spent with family growing up.
The first time I heard this song many years ago in a television series "The Highlander" I have the version of that series and today I can say that you have moved me with your version. I still have my parents but I am losing my mother little by little with Alzheimer's disease. thanks from Spain..
I Lost my Mom on Mothers Day before my eyes of me it started then she died at the Hospital. In the year 2010 it was 14 years now. Your video made me cry. Seeing your family made me cry. They all had beautiful Moments to share. The one girl reminded me of my mother as she was short like you and the depth and feel you brought out Vocally is Magical!!! It's I who need to cry today. Why 14 years later?????🥴
Little of a fun story here. I absolutely love the sound of a minor and it's variations such as a add nine. And I as a early guitarist was trying to come up with my own songs. Played with this variation and I was like what goes well with that and I added c and it's variations with hammer-ons and pull offs. All excited. I run to my dad and I show him what I'm working on. And he goes Oh that's dust in the wind. And I asked him what is that. He pulls up TH-cam and my dreams of an original song or dashed XD. Fantastic cover! Absolutely love it!
First time I ever heard this was when it was used in Highlander: The Series and thought it it was beautiful, I think yours has become my favourite version of this. 😊

Stunning cover. Did you know that Kerry came up with the riff trying to learn finger picking style on the guitar. His wife thought it was beautiful and Dust in the Wind was born. This is a gorgeous tribute to your mum. Not sure if this was intentional posting today but it is also Mothering Sunday in the UK. I know you spent time there a few years back.
Have you ever lost a loved one?
Are those your video memories?
Lost dear family members during Covid. Missing them every day
Yeah, several. :-(
More
Много раз.
The depth and timbre of Violet's voice with the acoustic backing is mystical
I totally agrree. Herr voice is beautiful.
Just lost my Dad. Four days ago. He loved this song. Thank you Violet, for such a beautiful rendition.

Me too brother. I was my grandmothers birthday present... when it was her time the entire family was at her house... You never forget those moments.
I Love this song, I was with my Momma 6 years ago until her last breath.
