[Plot Introduction/ synopsis]
The play tells the story of the princess Wang Xuan (played by Zhang Ziyi) who has a first love, the third prince Zitan (played by Tony Yang). Wang Xuan was involved in the court battle because of the prophecy of "getting her, getting the world." She became her father's chess piece and married Lord Yuzhang, Xiao Qi (played by Zhou Yiwei), from a humble background. Soon, Prince Helan (played by Yuan Hong) kidnapped Wang Xuan to seek revenge on Xiao Qi. The couple fell in love with each other because of a blessing in disguise. In the end, the couple joined hands to create a new era and guard their homeland's people.

Love the scene where Awu and XQ adopt the two children .. they're such loving parents and they all look so happy as a family. The actor playing General Song does a really good job at showing how a person can go from being honorable to being greedy for power and wealth. It's easy to hate him!

@@tinaz1818able One thing I know from reading some comments is that Zang Ziyi controls the drama directions as she is one of the investors . To me the whole production is a success regardless who are the helm. I love Princess Wang Xuan from the beginning to the end. She remains dignified, kind, and in control of the many situations she was in. A perfect Empress if you asked me. But she doesn’t want that title from the beginning!

General Suzhang treats his soldiers as brothers and he's devouted to them and their families....he's a genuine leader.
Lord Suzhang, the way you honor your Ningshou soldiers without compromising, and thank you for not rebelling against the emperor. you show true character of a leader who is loyal to Cheng, regardless the wimpy emperor who finally comes around to acknowledging the soldiers on both sides who perished bloodily on the Lingshuo mountain

Wow! Empress Dowager is almost unrecognisable! She has lost just about everything because of her lies and scheming but she's still at it. Guess she won't stop until she's dead. Hoping the whole truth comes out soon and Awu has enough common sense to know that there is more to the story than what she was told.
Dowager empress yes still is at it especially learning the new emperor took advantage of her plan to set up and assassinate the general, and killed her son, his own brother. She is now in a helpless situation because of the power shift and those with power behind them thay worked for the empress are gone, dead or fleet the scene. The officials don't and won't bargib with her as the country is in disray as well as the capital. She now gets to feel the helplessness on some degree her husband emperor felt of being physically ill and needing someone to stand by him with ability and power but finding it lacking. Her husband was lucky to have a few trusted people before dowager sent the last one away. Then got really lucky that awu and the general helped. She now will reap and is reaping what she sowed.
How dares her (Wang Xuan) asked him to let go what happened to him and his soldiers to focus on their lives!!!... it’s a coward moment of her🤣🤣🤣

There was a scene when Xiao Qi was leaving Awu the next morning (after rescuing Her a second time along with the city) to fight King Jangnan in the valley. Hueian had this weird look in his eyes when Xiao Qi was getting on the horse. It was episode 18

Remember when Wang Lin was in prison and he wrote a bunch of stuff on the wall? Awu saw it and it seemed important. There are some subtlties we've been missing. The series 'Ruyi's Love in the Royal Palace' translates anything that appears written. I really appreciate that.

When she discovered that he was the one who wanted her nephew dead, she reasoned that he did not care about her sister, her nephew and that at any cost he had to be emperor.

最後山谷那一戰, 寧朔軍全軍跟禁軍同歸於盡不太合理, 來救援的, 百餘人可以殺兩千人趕過來, 在山谷中明顯禁軍已經比寧朔軍少了, 寧朔軍又應該比禁軍善戰, 所以編導在山谷一戰請的禁軍臨演不夠多, 看起來變成一個大bug了😅

这个太后手上沾着谢贵妃、老皇帝的血，也试图杀死王蔺，连他亲生儿子的死也都有一半是拜她的阴谋所赐，王儇还要如此心疼她，不是很合乎常理。实在是为了突出女主的的善良和爱心的勉强之笔。按常理，这个老太婆真的是本剧中一大群自私自利、阴险狡诈的角色中最该死的。看这个大成从皇族到群臣，实在是满满的亡国之相。

Evil people never saw what they did wrong. And when they do, they never admitted that they are wrong. It does you no good to not admit that you are defeated. There is no use to go on living life like that. Better to admitted that you are wrong & asked for forgiveness. Then change to be a proper person.
看到現在，對王儇這角色失望了!大王為了她連命都不要，可她心裡只有自己的家人，知道毒害大王的真凶竟沒有告知，對他沒有信心，她真不值得大王的愛!是雨季嗎？差不多所有場景地面都是濕的，看的很不舒服!

The Empress is funny in the scene asking Prime Mister Wen is he going to be loyal to her and lets add she can't call anybody ruthless she is one of many if not one of the most ruthless throughout the whole series poor thing. A life of scheming, lying, murdering whole clans all for the sake of getting her son the thrown and end up without her son or grandson now just old, feeble, and broke down.
Very funny for zitan to say this words.., no guilt at all .! He and helan Zhen plotted all this ... I’m sure he can’t sleep at night and can’t eat knowing that the Lord is in the capital and his sins might be discovered anytime now . Zitan even thought he can use gen song . He is really not intelligent . Song is a nobody without the Lord. All of these foolish people thought they can use gen song . Actually it’s clear now that the Lord’s misfortune is caused by his marriage to the princess . Awu is the cause and here now what she discovered she will keep it a secret from her husband ., because zitan as what she said can’t be killed for he is the emperor . This is the irony in this story. The position of emperor is very important . He can kill anytime but can’t be killed. Another thing I notice , in this issue of lianyu mountain event the princess regard the enemies as the emperor against the general not against her husband . So she has the reason not to confess what she knows .

I do not envy the position Awu is in. She also knows that if Xiao Qi kills Zitan, XQ will surely be killed. It’s a huge thing to withhold from your husband for the rest of your marriage.

Not my favorite episode but definitely an illuminating one.

This episode made me so appreciative of the sacrifice of the soldiers and their families in order to protect my country. They are heroes.

Did you notice that while Zitan was making an offering for the soldiers, Awu was too. They must also have a wooden home at the Yuzhang Mansion in the capital. Makes sense.
I think it's interesting that now that Xiao Qi's alive, that Zitan let Hu Yao off the hook and believed her when she said she was the sole survivor of the Lianyu Mountain incident.

@@lzkrishmom I agree so much. It was really moving how they paid tribute to the soldiers, in ceremony and in the flashbacks. I love that XQ won't 'let it go' and that he keeps demanding more and more reparations. He should ask for lifetime $ for the families in addition to anything that would clear up the stigma of being portrayed as a traitor.

每次都是怀着积极痛苦的心情。看这部电视，但是又不得不看，非常好看因为一众好演员，好的故事，特别是章孑怡第一部电视剧。但是让我难受的是，演员说话的声音不怎么听的见，把声音放到最大，背景音乐大的刺耳，尤其是关键的时候，噪声越大，每每看这电视，这燥音就让我烦噪。这编辑真是太烂了！！！！

我觉得还好啊。一个老粗骤然跑到繁华的京城里已经够眼花缭乱了，然后各路大官跑来送钱送妻妾，这是很容易让人自我膨胀的。而他那心里仅存的一点自卑，寒族出身，又让王老头给抹平了（收他当义子，改变出身），于是他自然想当王。还有，他也不想和老萧有任何牵扯，毕竟老萧代表的是他的出身，他的过去，就像锦儿不想看到阿无一样。
这剧编剧是很烂，但这一点还好。只是演员太差了，这个宋怀恩真的是越看越别扭。

I must be not too smart, or I misread the translation, what did the emperor set precedent for? Why did Hu Yao seems to stop Lord Yuzhang from saying/doing something inappropriate!!!
So in the past Emperor's were only able to make offerings to Heaven, Earth, and Ancestors. Zitan said he would set the precedent for now making offerings to dead soldiers. The ministers are all up in arms about this and they don't agree. I don't think that Hu Yao was stopping Xiao Qi from saying something. I think she was just saying his name in excitement as the Emperor had just declared he would honor the dead soldiers.
The precedent was that never before had an emperor given 'sacrifices' /paid tribute for fallen soldiers only for the country, heaven and ancestors (If you think about it, that's pretty nuts given that it's the military that helps the emperor stay in power or have any degree of stability)....Not sure about the answer to your 2nd question and it's a good one.

Because Zitan was just all talk. Inside the court, he said Xiao Qi was pushing him, and the courtiers all have to urge him to honor the dead soldiers. Yet, when he did the ceremony, it was as if it was his own idea, that he did it out of goodwill and faith. All the while, saying those words with looks of contempt directed to Xiao Qi. Xiao Qi and Hu Yao clearly knew the Emperor was taunting the general.
