Something of note. Panthers won the president's trophy last year and were embarrassed by being swept in the second round last year. They have all the motivation and are still being totally discounted

You know, I really thought that nothing would be funnier than the Bruins blowing this series against Florida and when it finally happened I was cackling. But when I saw Patrice Bergeron hugging all his teammates before stepping off the ice for probably the last time in his career, not gonna lie man I was a little choked up. Never imagined I would feel bad for the Bruins but that moment had a palpable sadness.

    Mistakes the Bruins made:
Didn't start Swayman in game 6.
Introduced Bergeron and Krejci back into the series, thus messing with team chemistry, when neither guy was 100%.

It's weird to say for a record breaking team, but the Bruins were overrated going into the playoffs. They were really good the last 30 or so games but not as good as they were in the first half. The Bruins cooling off a bit combined with Florida heating up at the right time made for the perfect storm.

  • @Flynn380_
    @Flynn380_ ปีที่แล้ว +3

You were discussing Montour and his stats and how low they were when he was with the Sabres. The one thing to keep in mind, is that the years that Montour was on the Sabres is the same years that Ralph Kreuger was their coach. If you look at ALL NHL players that played for the Buffalo Sabres during that time period, ALL of them are down. It's the same years that Ryan O'Reilly was there and said he had "lost his love of the game" under Kreuger. If you look at the combined stats for when he was on Anaheim and Buffalo, he had a total of 35 Points, the year before 32 points. Then he goes to the Sabres and the numbers take a HUGE dive. So, my belief is that Montour was always able to be this good, but because of his time under Kreuger, he was stalled. Now his points are coming back to where they were when he first entered the league.

Interesting is probably the most positive way you can put it…. This B’s fan isn’t looking forward to what’s coming. I think best case of they are smart, we could retool and be competitive in 2-3 years…. Or they will try to claw and grasp at these vestiges of the past and we will go through a longer more painful period of being decent but not good enough to do anything even if we do make the playoffs.. ie the late 90s early 00s all over again.

This wasn't a shocker to me - and I'm a B's fan. As to Pete's video - no, I'm not going to forget this season. Would it have been better to have a lousy season? No. It's disappointing, but not surprising. The regular season is worth something - it's nowhere near the Cup, and I'd trade positions with the Panthers in a second, but it's something.

This one burns. Now I understand your Toronto pain. 50 seconds from winning it ugly. Every player seemed to make an epic mistake during the series, plus Montgomery waiting too long to put Sway in and seemingly not even address key issues between games with the players.

Technically the Bruins are not the winningest regular season team. That belongs 95-96 Red Wings with 62 wins following OT; there was no shootout wins in those years. The Bruins had 61 wins following OT and 4 SO wins. For comparison, these 4 SO wins would have been considered ties in 95-96.
Additionally, Tampa who ‘tied’ Detroit’s record in 2019, won just 56 games following OT and would have 6 more SO wins count as ties in ‘96.
They were also the differences of 3-on-3 overtime in the Bruins’ and Lightning’s seasons which didn’t exist in the 90’s either; which I’m not sure how that would’ve changed things, but it was less likely that games would’ve ended with overtime wins or losses than ties.

9:40 "No team in the four major sports that has the best record has won the championship" Yes, No, sort of ... Depends on how you look at it... Mostly, but not entirely true when you are talking about just the regular season.
-In Hockey, this is not true. Montreal Canadiens at 60-8-12 were easily better than the Bruins. They didn't have overtime, if they had, their points would have undoubtedly been much higher. But in terms of winning percentage, the Canadiens were better than the Bruins. When you include post season, the difference becomes much greater as the Canadiens blew away the competition.
    - In football, Miami Dolphins, in terms of overall percentage were perfect at 100% when you include regular and post season. The schedule was two games less at the time so there are several teams with a loss that had more wins than the Dolphins along with the Patriots 2 more wins.
-If you include all wins, the 1998 Yankees won 125 games, the most overall wins and won the World Series. Two teams, Cubs and Mariners won 116 regular season games to the Yankees 114 but both of those teams got wiped out in post season but Cubs still end up with best overall winning percentage since their season was shorter.

    Bruins are screwed.
Who can they replace Bergeron and Krejci with?
They need to re-sign Bertuzzi and his value went up in the playoffs.
McAvoy took a step back. Clifton was a liability.
Their coach made some questionable decisions.

Old Boston guy, leafs are much better off playing Panthers, they won but the bruins were the better team all year, putting bergy out there was wrong, not keeping their unique goalie rotation was wrong, many reasons the bruins handed the series to Florida, up 3 games to 1. I'm old man and I'll be dead before the bruins ever get far into playoffs so yeah, I'm more than a little pissed.

i dont agree with the much talked biggest upset of the nhl history. If u look at the teams on paper boston overperformed and florida underperformed the whole season and Florida had pretty much the similar skilled fast team as president trophy winners. Boston were counted out of the playoffs or just getting in (like florida did) in many medias before the season. They were 2 and 2 in the season against each other, so i don't think it matters too much how u play against other teams. CAPTAIN HINDSIGHT! ...maybe more surprised on the florida side that with pretty much two big changes they suddenly play relentless playoff hockey.

As a die hard a bruins fan. This loss didn’t upset me. I actually don’t really care. This team will be back next year, they’re competitive year in year out. I’m actually glad that this could be bergerons last season (not because I don’t like him) but I think this gives an amazing opportunity to some younger guys in their system to come up and be the possible next Bergeron or chara. The off-season is gonna be crucial to their success going forward
