    I just opened a can of Nido I stored away in 2015 and forgot about (it was past the best by date when purchased as it was clearanced) Just opened it a few days ago 2021 and it tasted perfect. It lasts long past the best by date when stored air tight and in a cool dark place.

    I discovered the Nido milk several years ago and have been buying it ever since. It's the only one it doesn't taste awful and when I run out of regular milk or half-and-half I will use it in my coffee. When I travel I always carry it with me or buy it where I'm staying for easy storage so I don't end up with milk that spoils before I use it up. It tastes better and is healthier than that horrible Coffee-Mate. Plus you can add a little water to make milk for cereal if you keep a box of cereal in your room. I recommend it to so many people! I'm glad to hear you promoting it also.

    Thanks for sharing. When the lockdown began, I bought several large tins of this to use in my tea. I grew up in England; I take my tea strong, with milk and sugar (a Builder's tea). Half and half was always my go-to milk, but now I actually prefer the flavour of Nido, as I can add as much creamy milk flavour as a bold cuppa can hold. The long-term storability is a definitive bonus. And...you can make awesome hot cocoa with it. None of that 'ya need three packets' stuff. Nido, cocoa powder, sugar, and vanilla powder...add boiling water, et voila!

      I just tried the great value and I love it! It’s like a skim milk. I put powder first in a pitcher and then dumped cold water over it and stirred it really good with a cooking spoon and there were no clumps. I didn’t really think to try powdered milk so I would keep some macadamia milk or almond milk on hand which are pretty awful! They don’t last long either. I’ll try Nido too! I almost bought a can on Amazon before I tried the great value but I didn’t want to buy that much to open at once. I love the great value pouches that make one quart. They also have powdered goats milk in a bag at Walmart. I got a can of that stuff and didn’t like it though.

    This video resurfaced, and I'm so glad. I'll be buying it my next trip out. As of today, this size is $16.58 at Wal-mart. I watched another video where someone was using a different brand and suggested adding a bit of sugar and / or vanilla to improve the taste. I'm glad I saw that because someone gave me a different brand milk. Since Nido is made by Nestle, and I grew up on Nestle Chocolate Milk mix, I'm already confident about this. Thank you, Alaska Granny!

    Evaporated milk only contains one ingredient-milk. It can be reconstituted with equal parts water. You can drink reconstituted evaporated milk just as you would “regular” milk. Sweetened condensed milk, AKA condensed milk, has a great deal of sugar added and when reconstituted would not be anything like “regular” milk.

    This video was made in 2021 and that Nido was $15.69. Presently, 11/2022, the same container Nido is $ 17.98 at Walmart and $ 17.49 on Amazon.
    This Nido container makes 3.33 gallons of milk for $ 17.49 or !7.98 a Nido Container. I doubt one can buy 3.33 gallons of milk for that price now a days. Great to have stored away in case of bad weather or when SHTF. Great video and thank you.

    First, Happy New Year Granny.
    I hope the year brings an abundance of peace, love, and chocolate.
    I was searching online for powdered milk last night. I ran across this on the Walmart grocery site. Spendy compared to other brands. Didn't consider how it compares to fresh milk. I'm really interested in how it tastes and the consistency after it's mixed. Is it milk-like?
    My Aunt uses powdered milk in homemade soups. She likes the Members Mark from Sam's Club. I don't think she ever mixes it to drink.
    Great video, Granny. You provided a lot of tips for storage.

    I add a 1/4 cup or more of this to my chocolate milk and other protein drinks and it really helps add a CALORIES, CARBS AND PROTEIN to them. If your trying to gain weight or workout, its a good addition to get even more of what you need without adding significant volume. A 1000 calorie drink is great unless you have to drink a gallon, so maximum calories, carbs, protein packed into a smaller glass.

      This is the third layer of my milk storage. Always keep an extra gallon or two of fresh milk in the basement fridge since we go through it quickly. Keep about 40 quarts of Gossner Farms shelf-stable milk on hand plus two large cans of Nido. I like having some flexibility depending on access to water.

    Wow, I'm just discovering these larger cans of Nido. I was looking for it over where the nonfat dry milks are and couldn't find it. And this was at the big Walmart. I only saw the Nido for children near the baby formula. Crazy that I found the large cans of the Nido Fortificada at a smaller Neighborhood Walmart! Now it's $19.98 for the 53 serving can. Sam's has a 73 serving can for about $4 more -- a better deal. The Neighborhood Walmart also had a smaller can that was a little more than 12 oz. for a little under $7. I suppose that could be sort of a trial size you could buy to be sure you like it before you commit to the higher priced larger quantity. This sounds like a good item for hurricane season. I like your idea of storing it in Zip-Loc bags and then in a canning jar.

    I use Nido also. Don’t order it online from Walmart. Go buy it in person if you can. You will get a short shelf life. Now I saw a liquid milk in a carton at the Dollar Tree. It had a descent shelf life. Have tired it yet, but we will see. I do not suggest canning cold milk. It doesn’t hold good on the shelf long from my experience. Stay safe all.

      The milk at Dollar Tree is by Gossner, and is UHT ultra high temperature processed to be shelf stable and last for months. It is great, and a real deal for $1. Here is a link to a video I made about it. th-cam.com/video/TkVtw7uSyo0/w-d-xo.html

    Hi AG- I also started to use the Nido on a more of a daily basis. I am trying to wean off the refrigerated flavored creamers. I love using the Nido in my coffee, very creamy & rich tasting, along with a squirt of sugar free syrup, together they are a great supplement to the flavored creamers.
    QUESTION- since Nido Fortifacado is a whole milk, I assume it can be stores the same way LT as FF Dry Milk in Mylar bag or vac sealed canning jar with O2's? Does it last just as long in LT storage as the FF Dry milk?

    I have learned that if you wait 24 hrs after you mix up your powdered milk to drink it you are allowing the milk sugars to reconstitute. That is what will make it okay to drink. Then if you want you can mix it half and half with your other milk to make it stretch farther.

  • @moniqmb9617
    @moniqmb9617 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here in the PH there are various brands of powdered whole milk, filled milk etc. Nido is one of the better and more expensive brands. Kids are raised on powdered milk, as liquid milk is more expensive and has a shorter shelf life. We are all used to just dumping milk powder in a glass of hot or cold water for a quick drink. That's the norm. =-)
    Evaporated and condensed milk are usually for cooking and desserts.

    • @AlaskaGranny
      @AlaskaGranny  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am not a food scientist or chemist, and do not think you can extend the life because of the fat content. Rotate it within a few years of the date works for me.
