      And back in the day, people actually were for the most part. One of the reasons us older people still have such nostalgia for the time period. It really was a different time, as much so as any time period they travelled to in the movie. It is almost as jarring to see the differences today compared to then as it would be to be stuck in the wild west. No exaggeration.

    • @Zamrod
      @Zamrod 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@rikk319 the thing is that there were problems in the past, for sure, technology was worse so you were more likely to die if things that can be treated, the world was less peaceful, there were other problems as well that are a lot less bad these days. Things got better over time, I'm certainly not disputing that. However, having lived through that time the issues were nowhere near as bad as people who live now make them out to be.
      The issue is that over time as we had less and less to worry about we started looking for things to worry about. When you don't have any really bad things to worry about suddenly rather minor things become major. Humans like to complain and focus on the negative. So things that would have been so minor that no one would have complained about them 30 years ago are now major issues affecting our society. It is the worrying about these things that are causing more problems than the issues themselves. So, the perception that everything is getting worse keeps increasing the better things get.
      That having been said, not everything got better.

    For those of us who watched Keanu land and become a star, THIS is what he was for the first seven or eight years of his career. He was not an action star at all; in fact, I think most people would have laughed at the idea. The image people had of him was of a very pretty, very vapid eternal teenager. (It wasn't until well into his thirties that he even began to look his age.) He was in Dracula, and people giggled. He did Shakespeare, and people rolled their eyes. He was very popular, but nobody took him seriously, which is rather interesting, as during the first few years, he was seen as an intriguing young talent. But then Bill & Ted came out, and that was all she wrote. He was a himbo from then on - in fact, the term "himbo" was coined to describe Keanu. (To illustrate, when The Matrix first came out I thought it was amazing and started getting my friends to come see it. Every time, without fail, they would say, "But it's got _Keanu Reeves_ in it!" I'd reply, "I know, I know, but trust me, you will NOT regret this!" Even at that late date, people expected him not to deliver.)😅

The original script had the guys time traveling in a '69(Excellent!) Chevy Van . But this was made not too long after Back to the Future came out, and they didn't want to be compared to it, so they switched to the phone booth. (the film came out in 89, but was made in 87, and took two years to find a release) Clearly they were counting on not too many Americans being familiar with Doctor Who back then.

    19:13 - It's METROCENTER, in Phoenix, AZ at it's absolute peak. Sadly it was demolished last year. This film became such a part of the mall's history (and Phoenix Metro in general) that before they tore the last of it down, they hosted a screening of BILL & TED on one of the walls. They'd done the same a couple years earlier when the Circle K changed hands and became an independent bodega. That showing was most triumphant, I can assure you.

(Doesn’t know what she’s missing, if you ask me!) A few weeks later, my confirmation class went on a weekend trip, to where I don’t remember, but we got to go see this one of the days we were gone. This movie came out at just the right time for me and it holds a special place in my heart. I’m turning 50 this year and I love it as much today as the first time I saw it!

    I always see the parallels between Bill and Ted finding the messages they left themselves to duck and hide their way through the police station, and the office cubicle scene in The Matrix when Morpheus is directing Neo where to hide and when to go. Even at the end of it they are climbing out a window, just as Neo had to. I just wonder if The Matrix directors put that in there as an homage
