Another belter of a video Lee. I love the way you completely take apart Mike's playing, note for note, even if it's different to a different version of the same song and slow it right down for people like me to learn. Have you ever disected the Peel Sessions before. Especially Bed & Breakfast Man. The piano outro is spectacular!

I totally agree with you in terms of how underrated Madness were/are as musicians; feel that there's a reappraisal of their music going on though and your videos are an important part of that growing appreciation and understanding of how good they were/are, as well as an exhibition of your own considerable talent to take them apart and play them so well. I bought a Roland digital piano a few months back as a 50th birthday present to myself, never played the piano before and have spent the first 3 months learning only chords, scales, fingerings etc - no songs. Now it's time to learn to play songs and no better than a true classic from my youth!!
When I get better I plan to treat myself to a new Hammond. Wouldn't mind a vintage Vox Continental as well. Seems like you've got the lot!!!

BRILLIANT!!!!!! Thanks for uploading this. As a muso and fan I've always been interested by their style / genre. The ska thing was obvious but it seems like they also had some Music Hall & possibly Rag Time or 20's / 30's influence in some of their tunes.
What's your take on that? Cheers
Exactly......who else would write a song about the 'house on their street?' .... but it's those typically british things that make em special.
I just discovered "Liberty of Norton Folgate", what a song? Some r describing it as their masterpiece.
I dunno about their masterpiece, but they certainly put a lot into this song.

Aaaargh! Verse, no problem, chorus, all good, solo? Forget it!
I know, I understand your frustration, as the piano solo is very difficult.
But well done for getting the verse & chorus, & I bet if you keep on practicing the solo, you will eventually get that too.
Maybe try to break the solo up into small sections, & slowly master each small section before trying to play the solo all in one go.
Don`t try to play it at full speed straight away, learn to play it slowly.
I bet it`s the left hand part (the offbeat chords) that are giving you problems in the solo?
I'm actually cheating a bit and doing the chords with my right hand and the melody with the left, but yes, it's the timing of the offbeat chords that are proving tricky!

He varies the way he plays the solo all the time.
If you study the original Taratata Master Class video of Mike, you will see he plays the solo in two different variations on that video alone!.
