What an incredible pianist, and might I add, very good bit of footage watching him explain the complexity of the song, especially the middle solo part, its bordering on classical piano. As much as I love and admire Mike Barson's work, I think its a bit overboard saying he's the greatest piano player. His finger technique isn't great but his musicality is brilliant!!
I'm glad I found this, my 9yr old Loves Madness, ever since he seen them in concert when he was 3yrs old, he's been learning to play the piano for 18months, this will help him Thank you

Music is so bad now, Madness would blow them all away today if they started as a young band in this era as their music is timeless and still relevant.. They had 17 top 10 singles as they put out hit after hit after hit.. They truly were like a conveyor belt for hits and they had the most amazing melodies which is the most important thing to have in a song.. And Mike Barson shows us all that with a little bit of hard work and the right attitude a band can go a long way.. The man is a truly gifted piano player and it was his drive and song writing ability which saw the band get so much success.
Transpose every chord he says by 1 note, and it is much easier to play and also easier with a band. Example Opening Chords Dm Bflat Gm Am Dm Chorus F C Dm, Gm C Etc.

I think he was 16. And then around 2008 when he was about 49 he wrote Sugar and Spice, about his breakup with the same woman all those years later....
