  • What’s it like to live with an Alfa Romeo Giulia TI Sport? Last summer we look delivery of this beautiful Misano Blue Metallic Giulia. This Italian sports sedan, manufactured at the Cassino plant about 90 minutes south east of Rome, is equipped with Alfa Romeo’s Q4 all-wheel drivetrain which is well suited for all four seasons in our northern climate. One of the many reasons we chose the Alfa for our next long term test car was the praise it received from none other than automotive legend Jeremy Clarkson, the former co-host of the BBC television series Top Gear and now co-host of Amazon Prime’s The Grand Tour, once stated that ‘you can't be a true petrolhead until you've owned an Alfa Romeo’. We are now owners of an Alfa and therefore, officially, a petrolhead.
Our 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia TI Sport:
    o 22S - Sport Package
o XTL - Gloss Yellow w/Black Brake Calipers
o AJB - Cargo Convenience Package
o AJG - Driver Assistance Static Package - blind spot monitoring, rear cross path detection
o GWJ - Dual Pane Sunroof
o LSS - Forward Collision Warning
    o RCA - Harman/Kardon Premium Audio System
o AHP - TI Leather Package
o AMU - TI Sport Performance Package $1,500 active suspension, limited-slip differential rear axel
o DLXH - Sport Leather Trim Seats- Black w/Black Se
    o Other MSRP Options
    o $10,145 CAD in options
o $66,280 CAD MSRP including freight and PDI

@@AlokSomani I've been driving an FJ Cruiser for the last couple of years, so anything would be an improvement when it comes to the interior. But yeah, I do agree with you.

    • @AlokSomani
      @AlokSomani 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@riyadhahmed4420 I love it. I'm 16,000 miles in and it has been reliable for me. There are small quirks like the AC system being too loud, my trunk lid not staying fully open when I'm parked on an incline (guess the spring needs to be adjusted), but nothing that impacts reliability.
But, the upsides have been AWESOME. It feels SO good to drive. I love the steering and the steering wheel. I like the design of the interior cabin, very nice lines and very driver focused. The suspension is just the right balance between stiff and compliant for me, and I also got the adaptive suspension (Ti Sport Performance Package).
I cannot overstate how nice it feels to drive. Better than the BMW 3 series and Audi A4. I would say in my opinion, but in my opinion, it is almost an unequivocal truth.

I am from Argentina, where Alfa sells cars since 1960, and I had a 164 V6 12V, a 164 V6 24 V, a 156 2.0 Twin Spark, a Mito Quadrifoglio, a 166 3.2 V6 24V and now a Giulietta Quadrifoglio. The best of all was the 166, an amazing car, NEVER EVER a big problem with any of them, just keep them well serviced, change the timing belt every 60.000 km and top them with high quality oil. A "Busso" V6 24 v engine is an experience every petrol head must have. Many of the complains about Alfas are or myths or common problems of an era, (rust on 80"s cars) The only bad Alfas were the "Alfa Sud" built on the south of Italy plant, the rest were al very good, reliable and with incredibly engines and design they are well know off.
NONE of the Direct Injected new Alfas have problems with carbon build up or oil sludge or bearings failures or timing chain stretch . Can BMW or Audí say the same?

@meezyThe dealer paid off my last couple of months so I just "returned" it and started a new lease with the new car. When you close out a lease you can leave it with the dealer, the lease company comes to assess it for a final close out. The dealer takes care of all of that though. If there are no issues you don't get a bill. Mine was in perfect condition and under milage so, if anything, it was worth more than estimated.

Good review. Have owned a lot of cars in my72 years....Big 3 brands, German, Japanese, Italiian. Most are kept for around 5 years. Had a 1970 ALFA spider I bought new and heavily modded it. Kept that car for over 40 years before selling to a collector to get garage space for a 2015 ALFA 4C LE also bought new....absolutly no issues on the 4C and with a few minor modes it becomes an amazing track car. i have no plans to get rid of that 4C. Also owned an ALFA GTV SCCA race car back in 70s. Currently my other cars are a 2016 Ford Transit 150 full size van and a 2018 GMC Acadia Denali. The Denali has been trouble free and a great car....the Ford makes a good van although I wasn't happy about a recall for the throttle body and an ongoing recall requirement to replace the drive shaft flex coupling every 40,000 miles....at least that is done on warranty.

I bought mine in red, 2018, best car I've ever bought!
I drive my pickup truck in the winter, which helps keep this car away from road salt, it makes it feel like a new car every spring when I open the garage door and drive it out.
Plus the fact that I live in the next province beside Ontario....Quebec...we don't have to have a front license plate which takes away from the cool ALFA look.

I discovered Alfa's in high school, I would sit all day in classes perfecting my sketches of the spider, I was clueless but on the right track, My teachers used to call me "alfa". I couldn't afford an Alfa as my first car, so i settled for a Triumph Spitfire, Followed by a Jetta GLI 1st Gen, yes it was late 80's. By now I had followed several Milano's to their homes..Long story short, 3rd car was VW 5cyl Quantum which I traded for my first, Milano 2.5 dark blue, it howled, at full throttle top speed the engine would go into glide mod...it felt super smooth as if power was coming from giant wound up rubber bands, 30 years later I've owned over 17 Alfa's Mostly 3.0 Quad.Verde Milano's and GTV-6's, one Ferrari, several audi's *wifes cars*, 164Q LS....You made a geat decision, Alfa's are not cars, Alfa's are people too..If you've never owned one, you just don't get it

Interesting review. I had a 4C Spider then I bought a new ‘18 Giulia Quadrifoglio. No problems with either car - absolutely love Alfas. The exclusivity is a nice bonus in an age where German cars are around every corner. A few things though - I don’t see why everyone hates the turn signals, I actually prefer them. You get used to them after just a few minutes and they are less clunky than normal ones. I had a Ti spec as a loaner and don’t think they sound as bad as you say- though if it were mine I’d want a little more volume to it. I wish you had spoken of the driving dynamics a bit more. You can throw any Giulia into a turn with precision accompanied by some of the best steering in the business. Chassis balance is bar none. Glad to see another great real world review. Go buy one and live it!

All the myths about Alfa unreliability are from way back in the 80's and 90's. In the 2000's and especially 2010's they've been very reliable. Not to mention that even in the past their reliability issues were mostly small annoying things related to electronics. They never had issues with mechanics, in fact, they've always had extremely durable mechanical parts, especially their diesel engines. The 1.9 and 2.0 JTD diesels are legendary for being able to get tuned to double or even more than their factory power just with ECU tuning, and they can be driven like that for hundreds of thousands of kilometers. I know a guy with a 15 year old 147 1.9 JTD with over 300,000 km's on the clock, and 200,000 of those were with a 260hp tune. Never any issues.
On top of that, they've been extremely solid and safe. Older Alfa 159 had the highest torsional body rigidity of any car except the Bugatti Veyron and Rolls Royce Phantom, almost double that of the BMW 3 series for example and other similar sedans. And the Giulia is said to be even more rigid. It also scored some of the highest safety ratings ever recorded, but that doesn't show the advantage of the highly rigid body, since those crash tests are done at very low speeds.

Great post. I've owned ten of the supposedly unreliable Alfas from the '70s-'90s (being an American I've no experience with the post-164 cars until the Giulia) and found them really well-built and rugged when it comes to the important stuff. Always reliable. Only time ever left stranded in nearly 200k miles was when a $10 Bosch sensor went in an '83 Spider. Other that, just regular maintenance and expected wear items. Meanwhile I've friends in other makes dealing with serious design issues yet it's Alfa that the Ignorati loves to criticize.

Here in Germany (and Italy), the Ti version of Veloce is quite different that in Canada: it's come as "serie" Q4, Active suspension, Quadrifoglio seats, Leather package, Carbon fiber Package outside (side mirrors, rear spoiler, front spoiler, front "V" bumber, side skirts) and inside (dash, central console, doors). I choose red alfa with red calipers, H&K sound system, alarm, Adaptive cruise control and heat rear seat. Unfortunately it isn't possible sunroof.

I ordered some spacers to help out. Should be in soon. Next is the backup cam. Since my car is white the screen is really dim since it can see my rear bumper and adjusts for the brightness. I took from electrical tape and put it on the bottom of the lense to help. Not ideal but it works. I can't wait to get performance exhaust so I can hear her rumble.

But I’m probably going the leasing route through a 3rd party called The Lease Outlet. 280HP is actually about the same as my V6. This thing is beautiful and I wouldn’t drive it to impress anyone. I just want something that makes me turn around when I walk away from it when I park it. If your car doesn’t do that you need a different car.

Absolutely love my '17 Ti. Agree re quiet stock exhaust; I put a REMUS axleback on mine and plan to isntall an open air intake (and a tune when out of warranty). For what it's worth, glitch/issue-free first 19k miles (for those worried it's going to fall apart in the first 5k miles). Best car I've owned since an '07 Cayman S I gave up for a minivan. In fact, feels like a 4-door version of that Cayman S, or a sedan version of an RX-8 with a ton more torque. Just a marvelous car. Only regret? Maybe I should have got a Quadrifoglio.

  • @stevelovescars
    @stevelovescars 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Very nice. Your review is spot on with my experience. The engine note could use a bit more personality but it's far quicker than I ever needed while being fuel efficient. I had a white/red 2017 base model but with the sport package... basically everything mechanically your car has except for the 18" wheels (mine were 17") and the sport seats. Frankly, if I had to do it again I would have splurged for the Ti sport seats as the base ones lack thigh support. I also think FCA planners really screwed up with their launches of the Giulia and Fiat 500s by getting far too conservative when it came to color options for inventory. When I looked for mine every single car on the lots I could find were gray or black with black interior. I found the ONLY Giulia in the entire state that had the red interior and I loved it. I made the same comment as you, "It's an Alfa, why would I want it to get lost in a sea of BMWs and Mercedes?" It's probably a good thing that you waited a while to get yours. Mine was an early 2017 and my 2-year lease ended after 10 months when FCA bought it back under lemon law. The early cars indeed seemed to have a lot of bugs in their drive-by-wire electronics and mine was no exception.

There is a never driven January 2017 Giulia Super up for sale where I live. Selling for 29000 dollars (original price 43000 dollars) Should I go for it? What sort of problems should I expect? The dealer said that if I decide to buy it they will run through all recall history for Giulias before delivery.

I got an 159 1.9jtdm sw and I love it. With 220.000km Reliability? it is. All issues I had were "normal". I replaced the turbo and the EGR. Nothing more.
Things I don't like... automatic windshield wipers, they don't work. period. blue and me system (does not support bluetooth music sharing, basic radio does not have aux neither reads mp3, it does have usb port but you put 300files and he keeps reading the same 30). with 150cv should have a bit more of a punch. The headlights water jets... they eat water..a 7L water tank goes in one week, turn them off and you're good to go. The brakes could be more sensitive.
Things I love. The leather seats... 220k km and only mine (driver) is a bit wear out, still way much better than bmw, mercedes whatever... the leather last longer, they are comfortable and beautiful.
the looks of the car (of course). The chassi, it's robust, I feel I could stuff another 150cv and it would handle it. Pirelli P0 nero GT does wonders I don't abuse on the speed but still, i never lost control, ever. The red speedometer (is that the name?) A few brands have red color for the car buttons, console etc, but they use white for the speed numbers (I drove a Kia like this last week) and it blinds me. But with red numbers it's still very visible, warm, nice and does not blind you; also since theres no brightness contrast you can easily check all the dials at the same time without sight problems.
The boot door might be a bit narrow at some point but there is space inside. The transmission is very precise.
And last... plastics quality, seriously, i've been in some premium cars from the same year or close or even newer and I think my alfa is well built and the plastics are not that bad. They don't wear out as fast as most VW plastics. The center console does not move. The door handles don't move, neither make any noise like the new shiny stupid plastic cars.
My opinion is, this is an underrated car. Still, Mito and Giulietta are crap, don't get fooled.
Giulia or Stelvio are great. But a SW is missing. And I'm missing the money to buy them :D :D :D :D :D
