It's lovely to watch Bip going from fear of skating, to trying to skate, to succeeding at skating in such a way that everyone can relate to. Brilliant.
Marcel Marceau was a Jewish memeber of the French Resistance in World War ll. His father was killed in Auschwitz. The first time he used mime was after France was invaded, in order to keep orphaned Jewish children quiet while he helped them escape to neutral Switzerland. After the War he became friends with Michael Jackson, who said he would use some of his techniques in his dance steps.
I went to the Teather to see Marcel Marceau. That was the more wonderful impact in my life, Marcell was not only the perfect mime but the more artistic creator I ever met in my life. After his performance I interchange some words with him. He was brilliant, sensible, excellent listener, and he truly love so much what he was doing An Angel sent by God. "THE ARTIST OF ARTISTS OF THE SILENCE"
I'm a little embarrassed that I didn't know this man's incredible story until recently. The worst things we ever did to each to each other seemed condensed into that 6 or 7 yrs of WW2. But also, the BEST we've ever done, too. Just regular folk doing amazing things. Because it was needed. So many stories in such a short time.
I never really thought about the connection between mimes and silent films of the early days of cinema like Charlie Chaplin. Like mimes they had to convey so much of their emotion through just facial expressions and pantomime.
Tengo una profunda admiración por Marcel Marceau! Que aparte de ser un gran artista, formó parte de la resistencia francesa, en la segunda guerra mundial y salvo a muchos niños judíos!!
@@jayive34 I had to study mime as part of my drama studies at high school, and it is HARD. Those who think this is 'lame' have no idea how insanely difficult this is, yet Marcel Marceau makes it look like a walk in the park. Much respect to Marceau!
It's funny knowing people hate mimes now, but if you think about it aren't people on Tiktok also mimes? They lip sync, pretend stuff, act out a story, some exceptions sure, but the majority of the app is full of mime artists (not comparable to actual masters of course).
I saw him in the mid sixties. He was brilliant! I still remember Bip at a party; the general playing chess, Also David and Goliath, where the audience were laughing so much.
Trauma.? It's beautiful, it takes a lot of work to be a mime, to understand a mime is wonderful. He was just sharing a little story about ice skating, it was cute, and it's performance art. Your teacher showing this to you is amazing broski.
Genius artist of his generation, and an amazing life he lead, worked with the French resistance during WW2, helped save Jewish lives, a remarkable human being

@@DwightLivesMatter Perhaps, in some ways. Like I said, there can be overlap between the two, but I still say they are something distinct from one another. The way I view "art" is that it expresses and touches something much deeper than what mere entertainment does. It somehow edifies us and enriches our lives in a profound and long-term way (as opposed to the shallower and more temporary enrichment of entertainment). I see this mime stuff as being more akin to an artform like dance, some kind of poetic physical expression of human essence. But I guess someone else might see it totally differently, and just get a kick out of watching someone move around all "silly" and whatnot. To me it's more art, to them it's more entertainment. I guess it is, to some extent, in the eye of the beholder. But yeah, I don't see "Art" and "Entertainment" as being essentially identical things.

Wow, cool story.

How can I become a memeber?

I'm wondering if this story partially inspired the 1997 film Life Is Beautiful... An excellent film in my opinion. Thanks for sharing.
Mime died with him. Brilliant and unmatched talent.
Thank god!
Although Robert Shields (Shields and Yarnell) kept it alive awhile longer.
Thank god!!! Boring!!!! 🥱
That made me happy to watch! Especially when he got it at the end!
Ice and fire, gravity and weightlessness obey him

Rip marcel. Its sad to know nowadays mimes are not as popular
Worse, they're considered lame. But people who thinks mimes are lame, are even lamer.
