    In my opinion, the outro solo of "Sometime World" from Argus is possibly the most underrated solo ever. I always think that Lynard Skynard heard it and said, let's write a song like Sometime World, and then they wrote Freebird. Definitely NOT a rip-off but a similar feel and similar dynamics under the solo. Amazing guitarist is Andy!

    • @keithf_
      @keithf_ ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I absolutely think Freebird is a rewrite of Sometime World. Freebird is great but Sometime World is better. Angus was the first album I ever bought back in 1973 and it's still in my top 10 of albums. Love those early WA albums.

    Interviewed Andy back in 2011. He was gracious and we delved in length about Argus and the lawsuits and many other things. One of the best people in music. Pete, thanks for doing what you do.

    I saw this band for the first time as a 15 year old kid at Sheffield City Hall in 1971. I last saw them at Buxton Opera House last year (2023). Personnel changes apart the band were still as awesome now as they were all those years ago when I first saw them. I bought their debut album from my mum's catalogue and I've still got it. I've played it to death over the decades and it still sounds great with hardly a scratch on it. I bought Argus the day it came out from my local little record shop in Chesterfield called 'Some Kinda Mushroom' I've got most of their albums on vinyl and still keep playing them. The later ones I have on CD. I'm 67 now and this band have been part of my life. Thankyou so much Andy Powell. A true stalwart to British music. Superb interview Pete. Thankyou for having Andy on your show. Phil Tennant. Derbyshire England.

    Wow, you know you’re going up in the world when a rock stalwart like this appears on the show. Good job to both of you. Sometime World is one of my favourite songs ever, and it’s great how Wishbone Ash have changed with the times, modernising their sound successfully.

    I am reading "Eyes Wide Open" right now actually. Really good, very honest. My old college friends always comment on how much I have liked Wishbone ash since the early 70's. I am 67 and still go to every concert I can get to. Saw them twice in Kansas City in the last few years. Got Andy's autograph, one of my prized musical possessions. If you haven't listened to this band give them a listen. Awesome stuff.

      Charles, As a recently former Austonite I Thank You for the kudos to Andy. I've known both Andy and Ted Turner since the early '70s when I worked at Beaver Productions at The Warehouse. In 2000 they played at the Cactus Cafe on the University of Texas campus. We treated the band to Thai food from Madam Mam's for dinner and reminisced about the "old days" at The Warehouse; where they performed 9 times over 6 years. My wife and I have been at every Austin concert since then, including the performances at the One World Theater. That's where/when we met Andy's wife Pauline. Great Band, Great People (you too Mark), and Great Memories! Argus is definitely on my desert island

    Great interview Pete. Respectful and informative. I agree with you in preferring the second Live Dates album too. I absolutely LOVE that the band left a couple of 'clams' in the recording without 'tidying' up in a studio later. Andy Is one of my heroes from WAY back. I like that Laurie got a mention because that's my favourite era of the band. It was interesting to hear that his entry presented the most challenging time for Andy. The results are spectacular.

    I first saw Wishbone Ash fall of 1974- "There's the Rub." Caravan were opening with " Cunning Stunts, " and where excellent, but I was there for W.A. I didn't get to see W.A. again until 2009, 36 years later!
    I really liked the reunion years 1987-1991- fantastic!
    I like the new one. Shown at the begining... great heritage band from the UK!

    My Wife has been a Wishbone Ash fan since day one and seen them many times years ago. So when they played at Southport November 2019 I surprised her with tickets. What a fantastic show! We got to meet and talk with the band and have our programs signed. I got to shake hands with all the guys and talk gear with them. The gig reminded me of the 70s, we could lean on the stage front and drink pints of beer and get refills when we wanted. So chilled and a fantastic night. All the guys and Andy's wife are really nice people and I would like to shout out Mark Abrahams as an amazing guitarist and performer who compliments Andy perfectly. Bob Skeat has an amazing bass sound too. Fantastic band an long may they prosper!

    Wow, Wishbone Ash is one of my favorite progressive, hard rock, bluesy, folk rock (eclectic music) bands! I saw them in Madison, WI, in a club called Headliners in the 1980's, and remember being utterly blown away by them. I loved their albums, but they were fantastic as a live band. I still list that as one of the best concert experiences I've ever had.

    When you have to look around the room to find a specific(legendary)guitar. So jealous. Telecaster and SG probably my favorite guitars(to play) of all time. Great interview. It helps that Mr. Powell is such a forthcoming interviewee. I could probably listen to him for hours. Great question about the eclectic nature of the band potentially tempering their success. I am going to go search out this album, and the book too, and hope for a tour stop in LA after this episode of the twilight zone that we are currently living in is over. Once again Pete, you have helped make this lock down tolerable. BTW was that the same Stones mobile from Smoke on the Water?

    Terrific interview. Last time I saw them live was 22 years ago at the Empire Music Hall Belfast. Time flies or maybe Time Was!
