I saw Wishbone Ash Nov 14, 1973 at the Ohio Theater in Columbus, Ohio while going to school at OSU. It was an old but elegant theater and when the band came on stage they stopped and looked around at the theater and commented on what a wonderful place to play. A great band, incredible music - and done with class - kind of unusual in the early 70s when guitars were being broken up on stage. Ash and Uriah Heep were always 'different', and I mean that in the best possible way. And it looks like they have a concert this Sunday, Nov 13, 2022 in Aberdate, Wales. Rock on !
Wishbone Ash never disappoints in live performances ! Never a bad night ; true professionals in all ways ....... I was a young man when I heard their first performances & now at 70 years young , I still feel the same feelings of deep appreciation for this band ! They never took their audience for granted & it shows with decades of excellence .. Nick , NavyBlueSmoke , LST-1195
69 and (over ) a half.... and I have tears in my eyes.... Tears for the absolute joy of a time past and the 'Now' that we are in..... Those of you in my timezone will know the absolute absolute wonder of those early days when the Ash were forming, along with many Bands that still play their stuff today and are still more lucid than I am.!!! This is great and it makes me proud that these lads were MY lads and came up from MY background and MY time. Of course, they played, I only ever dabbled..... never got the real hang of the guitar despite many many years of trying...... Maybe another reason for the lump in my throat as we go through this and many other stupendous tracks. Long may we all live..... THANKS for posting.
Nothing close to it these days. Granted, lots of talent out there, but our generation was the greatest for music. It is due to our music that created the ability for all the crap that comes out these days.
The ending song in the video is just amazing. This bands melodic approach with changes of rhythms shows the musical ingenuity that they are certainly good at. Incredible 4K clarity is an A+ for the video. SL
Andy Powell is one of the ten most influential guitarists in the world, I read somewhere, and here he is in a bar or pub or something. Not on a massive stage with thousands gawking at his brilliance. It's almost a crime on one hand but yet testament to his focus as 'a live band'. Saw them at Rock City in Nottingham years ago. Number one most influential guitarist in my mind. The depth of music beyond this goes on. Rock on, Andy. The others are pretty good too. They'd need to be.
I was at this show front and center. Absolutely first rate performance. This lineup of Wishbone Ash is the tightest they've ever been. Enjoyed every minute of it.
I'm brazilian and I cant stop to hear Wishbone Ash. And tis music specially. The english msuic is the best of the world, I dont know how, but the rock is in their blood. I would like to be english for that.
Yeah the Rock from the British Isles, just great stuff. From Moody Blues to Led Zeppelin. I agree, I think it's in their blood or DNA. And somehow they always have lovely, full bodied, resonate, singing voices.
@@bigcoolviking Maybe from the Britons. They were there before the Saxons, the Roman's and the Norman Conquest. King Arthur was a Briton. Jethro Tull and Simple Minds both great Scottish Bands btw.
Still my favorite band since The New England LP. Got in touch with Laruie a short time ago...again after about a decade. You guys never stop being great. Love y'all dearly.
Tones for Joan's bones! I saw these guys on their first tour in the US at the Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston, Texas along with the Allman Brothers! It was their first concert in Houston too. What an incredible show!!! 😎👍
Great recording! Thanks for the memories from the middle row. Thanks to Dave S. I was listening to their music back in 75! Dude - Phoenix - Rock is dead - Rock lives!
I saw them first in 1971, twice after that, and again last night in Edwardsville, Il. Muddy has now been replaced by Mark Abrahams and I must say he did not "miss a beat". I might even say he picked it up some what. What a Jewel of a band!
I didn't know they were performing in Dallas , I was up in Denton , TX working on airplanes in between dodging those baseball size hail and tornadoes . Now I'm back on the coast of Virginia .
Andy Powell remains the only original member of the ash.....but saw these guys on the flowerpot venue in derby on 2013 and they blew everybody away just awesome
Great video work here. Saw them in ATL and JAN last year. Looking forward to seeing them again on May 6. One of my favorite bands of all time. Thank you for sharing this.
A very good band as is Martin Turner's version but the lineup of Andy Powell, Ted Turner, Martin Turner and Steve Upton are great! I wish Andy and Martin would settle their differences and reunite.
+David Sumeray doubt if it will happen, Martin bailed out, Ted bailed out ....... only Andy kept ASH going, great to come back and cash in, dont think it will happen
I took these dudes to college with me in '71 on an 8-track tape player. Kids are going "what's 8-track?" He's makin' that Les Paul sing !! Andy being a jerk!!✌
Poor Davids Pub! traveled from MN to see Monte Montgomery there in 2006, with a daytime stop at Laureland & the SRV gravesite...fantastic whirlwind trip! Just saw Wishbone Ash (again) in Sept! #6thSHOW
The English Allman Brothers ! Fantastic words and singing ! Twin Lead & Rythmn guitarists ! Fantastic drumming ! So good ! So true ! Nearly impossible today with the ego's of the LEGIONS mediocre music and guitar players & artists of today !
You two, Andy Powell and Martin Turner need to get (bang) your heads together. You both individually have the greatest band going. Exploit that, but you must include the great and brilliant guitarsist in that. Mark Abrahams. He is your biggest asset.
That was Awesome. I'm sure the drummer was not an original member but, are the Bass and second guitar player original? I'm an old time Argus fan. Great clip!

AMEN BROTHER!!! Seen them many times AB FAB There music will live on, They never got the recognition they deserved you are spot on Mate.

I was at this show. Fantastic. First time to see Wishbone Ash since 1972. Going to see them at the Guitar Sanctuary in McKinney, Texas on 2/21.20.

I think Wishbone Ash's "Phoenix" is one of the greatest of all rock anthems. It is a powerful piece of music written and performed by this great band.
Andy Powell is one of the ten most influential guitarists in the world, I read somewhere, and here he is in a bar or pub or something. Not on a massive stage with thousands gawking at his brilliance. Their duets are simply amazing and unique! love them!

Our ancestors carried axes and longbows and ran with wolves. Rock'n'roll !

You would be VERY surprised how much of that ''English music'' is actually Scottish or Irish.
@@bigcoolviking Maybe from the Britons. They were there before the Saxons, the Roman's and the Norman Conquest. King Arthur was a Briton. Jethro Tull and Simple Minds both great Scottish Bands btw.
Me gusta tanto cuando veo a estos tipos ya grandes, ser tan jóvenes y con su talento intacto, adoro esto
Still my favorite band since The New England LP. Got in touch with Laruie a short time ago...again after about a decade. You guys never stop being great. Love y'all dearly.
saw them at an outside show in Chicago late 80's what a great show...played all the great songs
Essa versão ao vivo é uma aula magna do excelente uso de efeitos de guitarra
I'm 68 years old, I grew up with real rock and roll. I still think Andy Powell is one of the most melodic, gifted guitariststs I've wver heard.
Classic Ash with a brilliant bit of recording. I've never seen them worked better together than this.
boneyhard Right on bro
Love the way this tune keeps rising from the Ashes

Thats Les Paul tone is just AWESOME
El amplificador también le da tono 🎶
I saw them first in 1971, twice after that, and again last night in Edwardsville, Il. Muddy has now been replaced by Mark Abrahams and I must say he did not "miss a beat". I might even say he picked it up some what. What a Jewel of a band!
Pure genius!
Brilliant..... ! Timeless.....!
Andy keeps the Wishbone spirit alive,..not many bands out there that can emanate this group of musicians
Any good album after 1980?
I didn't know they were performing in Dallas , I was up in Denton , TX working on airplanes in between dodging those baseball size hail and tornadoes . Now I'm back on the coast of Virginia .
Great boys takes me back loved your music for years thanks !

Made my day!

First saw the lineup with Laurie in 75 or 76. But this is fantastic.
Brilliant
Excellent. First heard F*U*B*B on WCOL-FM when "There's The Rub" came out. I was hooked...
Wishbone Ash and JoJo Gunne at the leaky teepee, wpb, Florida .....when 71-72-73? A little hazy there!
Saw both of them together in San Antonio municipal auditorium in 1973 too! WA was awesome that show. Unforgettable.
Awesome
Saw them in Dallas. Navasota opened then wishbone ash and then jojo gunne. Wishbone ash should have been the headliner
Navasota was a great band. Saw them in San Antonio tx in the early 70's.
@@hilbert551 Agree- Jo Jo Gunne was good as well
Run ! Run ! Run !
Happy drummer
My jam !!!
Lovely fuzz overtones!
Unfortunately , Jyrki has left WA for a good rest. This is brilliant. Love the reggae bit in the middle.
Wow..........just..........Wow
I took these dudes to college with me in '71 on an 8-track tape player. Kids are going "what's 8-track?" He's makin' that Les Paul sing !! Andy being a jerk!!✌

+C. Shirley listen the 1972 BBC session, pretty good too

Studio version is the one to beat. I (still) have their debut album where this is the the last song.
Scott Leverenz The guy who play guitar and sing...is Andy Powel .
The English Allman Brothers !

Twin Lead & Rythmn guitarists !
Fantastic drumming !

Poor David won't be poor for long if he keeps getting musicians of this stature regularly in his pub! As good if not better than live dates
But Live dates is a classic live album!!!!!
Tony Sharples but Live dates is a classic album!!!!!!!!
.
Not even close to Live Dates the best Live album ever made by them!!!!!!!
BOYS ITS NIRVANA
That was Awesome. I'm sure the drummer was not an original member but, are the Bass and second guitar player original? I'm an old time Argus fan. Great clip!
Ron Riffle Thanks! The bass player, Bob Skeat, has been with them since 1997. The guitarist, Muddy Manninen, has been with them since 2004.
Ron Riffle Only The bald headed Guitarist is original. I don't know how Andy does it but he keeps finding guitar players that fit the bands style
Ron Riffle Also, Muddy's given name is Jyrki Manninen :) He is professional session & touring musician since 1979.
+Steve Butler Always liked this band from when they started and in my opinion Mark Birch was by far their best guitarist
+kickboxer What about Ted Turner? Surely, the original and the best.
Any original players in the band???
Lalalal aaa ! :-O
Les meilleurs ! ( The Best' Ones
Who are the original band in this video?
nothing like the original
Best Band Ever
The new lead guitarist is good but the previous one was quite outstanding, imo.
It's an old cliche !!! ------- but they don't make them like this anymore !! ❤
and my daughter's name is Phoenix...duh
USE THE AXE.
Stephen Hayes what does that mean?
david white Andy's flying v
funny at 3:15-3:45
Et çà non...!!!!
The only original here is Andy
So what?
best ever Phoenix? saying something...
+Stephen Hayes agree, Muddys passion and notes bleeds more into, could be best ever
Andy's vocals are no where near as good as Martin Turner's. Martin has his own ex Wishbone Ash band.
Agreed. Can't even sing the correct words. Embarrassing..
How to ruin a great song.
It's embarrassing, and an insult to the composer... The great Martin Turner.
