    I bicycled through the Iya Valley last month. Didn't realize till now that I was so close to the abandoned schoolhouse. I remember stopping at that blue bridge by the power station and taking pictures of the houses along the river. Was an amazing ride through the valley.

    It was the weirdest thing, but while watching this I swear that I could smell rain. Considering that I live in the Sonoran Desert and it was 106F today with 5% humidity, *no,* no rain. But I thought I did, over and over and over again.
    Thank you for giving me the rain and the mist and the river for a little while; this was just beautiful.

    Whenever I travel and stay at hotels in different states in America I call the front desk and set up a wakeup call so I'd have time to get up and be ready before check out at the end of the week. I also believe there would be a boat dock on the river down those steps you showed us.

    You talking about your first trip in 2005 made me SOOO nostalgic about the times we didn't have smartphones and had to use actual maps and such. My last trip to Japan was in 2011 and back then a smartphone wasn't as widely adopted so I didn't have a smartphone but the following year I did and everything changed permanently in my travels after that. But I will still hold onto my dearest memories of having to navigate Tokyo with a map it was so damn fun. Also no google reviews for places to eat, you just had to get lucky walking into a place or had to get a recommendation from a local. Anyways, thanks Norm for your stories!

  • @sanashi27
    @sanashi27 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

    The place looks nice and peaceful but it's still nice to see vehicles going through the area cause it doesn't seem like you're completely alone even when you don't see people around. There's really something different when the weather is rainy so it's awesome you made this video when the weather is like that. The curious and gamer part of me wants to know where all of the stairs you passed by leads to. There was so many of them and you can't see where they end! I'm also curious about the tunnel but th longer path is nicer and just gives a bit more adventurous vibes so it's a better choice. Watching this makes me wish I could also just walk around places outside lol.

    It would be fascinating to see images of the town before population decline and the decay. The area is stunning, the sheer cost and effort to develop a settlement in the area must have meant there were a good number of people who wanted to live there and there was some type of industry to justify the level of development.

    Lived in Japan before for a couple of years. Went there to learn Japanese and while learning got a job in a hotel in Tokyo. Always wanted to go to Shikoku but unfortunately, Tokyo life and having a girlfriend who was mostly a Shibuya 101 kinda of girl never let me explore beyond the outskirts of Tokyo.
    Luckly after a year of leaving i joined a Cruise Ship crew and got to visit some other areas like Nagasaki and Hiroshima and then the pandemic came and i just decided to stay put in my country, where i'm still staying.
    Even today i still wish to go and explore Shikoku as the wilderness and untamed wilds call to me (also a lot of places there resemble my parents birthplace in my country). Also i always wanted since i was a kid to go and see the whirpools of Tokushima. Maybe when i'm old and my life stabilizes.
