I don’t think people understand how difficult it is for two actors to stay connected through a virtual duet.
"I don't think people understand....." STFU
Plus I don't know that everyone appreciates how complex and difficult it is to sing Sondheim. PLUS I never knew Jake sang...he's great!!!
This for me is the benchmark. I always go back to it.
I certainly do. I had Zoom rehearsals for "The Messiah".
@@FelixVW more power to ya. Zoom rehearsals are always tough!
Damn you Jake Gyllenhaal, you Disney prince of a man, why did you have to be so perfect!!!
He is the prince of persia :3
Yeah prince of persia
Taylor might disagree with you.
@@airira Because he ran away from her... I wonder why...😔
@@cleonicesilva9060 because she’s a toxic person, who bullies everyone with her minions while playing the victim
Live action Tangled with these two as flynn and rapunzel!!!!
Jake Gyllenhaal giving us that Aaron Tveit hairstyle 👏🏻
Not flattering on either actor.
I was today years old when I found out Jake Gyllenhaal could sing
Cynder Procyon me too. He is so honest.
Same
He CAN sing! Wow 👏 😮
Right? And he's GOOD!
Me too!
Back for the 100 thousandth time!
Ikr. Just the whole thing way to beautiful
Stephen Sondheim is hands down one of the greatest, most complex lyricists ever. Full of so much nuance and depth, I seriously discover new things every time I listen to his work. Sir, you are so much more than a national treasure. You are a gift to humanity.
Not only that but his instrumentals completely tell the story
Totally
Who knew Jake Gyllenhaal could sing...and he's a tenor! Great performance.
So my undying love for Jake Gyllenhaal will last forever and this is why. He's a movie star who fits right in with a group of Broadway powerhouses. You don't see that very often.
Annaleigh and Jake are fucking perfect together. And Annaleigh has like this fucking beautiful captivating tone that just melts me.
I agree. That tone. She's a golden bell.
Came back to this today after hearing of Stephen Sondheim’s passing. Thank you for creating such a beautiful show as Sunday In The Park With George.
DAMN! JAKE'S FACE!! Feeling everything he's singing. Bravo!!
Guys, I was lucky enough to see the original Broadway production in 1984 with Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin, but, I must say, Jake and Annaleigh were fantastic! Yes, who knew Mr. Gyllenhaal could sing that way. What a revelation!
Isabel Pulido What’s so weird is I just finished watching this this evening. The One that you mentioned. I lay down in bed turn on TH-cam and I see this on my feed… Weird
I 'had' tickets for him in the London production in July, on my birthday - sob...
I am so jealous.
Just seeing this now and realizing we were in the thick of covid. I recently saw Annaleigh in Sweeney Todd. She is so talented. Jake Gyllenhaal ..... come on. You have the voice of an angel. What can't you do? The two of you together are stunning!
This lockdown production for Mr Sondheim was one of the truly beautiful things to come out of that time. Thank you.
I need Jake Gyllenhaal cast in the first show post quarantine, like are you kidding me!?! This is phenomenal
He and Annaleigh have actually been scheduled to do Sunday In The Park With George on the West End for a bit! It had to be postponed bc of quarantine.
@@vhartson Yup, I was looking forward to it!
He already did on Broadway
Move on, Stephen… you belong to the Universe now. Thank you for the fabulous words and music, the stories, for showing us what to see, what to listen to,.
This was my favorite performance. Annaliegh Ashford and Jake Gylenhal really deliver and are stunning these roles
Wow Jake has a beautiful voice. Love the long hair Jake.
Wow, Jake what a voice and expressive singing. Sondheim the master.
I know sondheim being Jewish means rest in peace is not the customary phrase but instead May Your Memory Be A Blessing. But that doesn't sit right with me with sondheim either. Because "may" imples that the matter is up for debate
It isn't. It never will be. Stephen Sondheim, your memory is a blessing, always has been, always will be. We promise to take good care of your hat collection
I didn't know Jake could sing..and what a beautiful voice. She is really wonderful.
“Anything you do, let it come from you, and it will be new (or true)”. One of the best lines in Broadway. Thank you guys, and Master Stephen Sondheim!
I love they way they sound. Truly. I would enjoy seeing this on stage. Thank you Jake and Annaleigh.
Anna Leigh is breathtaking with her acting
Jake's emotion line is so good.
WHAAAAATTTT????!!!! None of us were in on the 'Jake Gyllenhaal could sing' secret. So delightful to watch these two sing. Thank you for putting this in my day today. :)
🤍 Here to say RIP to the great Stephen Sondheim, whose creations will forever continue to move me… 🤍
I saw Jake and Annaleigh’s performance live and they were both fantastic
yooo hes one of my celebrity crushes and rn he looks like Jesus and I AM HERE FOR IT
Selita Jiménez HAHAHHAHA
A cutie for sure
😂 I loved this comment. 👏🏻👍🏻😁
He has gotten more handsome with age.
Oh my gosh me too, my crush since Donnie Darko. Many people say that I am married to Jake Gyllenhaal, lol because my husband looks like him. No lie, especially in the mouth and the eyes( And Hazel instead of blue) 😍
My crush on Annaleigh Ashford has grown exponentially
Right?!? Like honestly she's everything.
She’s amazing
I saw this on Bway. And these two, especially Annaleigh, killed it.
As we begin to, slowly, open up from 2 years living with covid restrictions -- words to live by. So beautifully sung.
It's fascinating to think that Jake could make a movie like Bubble boy be so funny and heartwarming, and then see every other development in his career. He is exceptional in all he does.
Ann is BRILLIANT! and Jake, I didn't know he could sing WOW!
Ok
I Want an album of him singing
He has a great voice!
I don't think people realize how difficult it is to train your voice to be a Vocalist...
Bravo!
😀👍👏😁😎
Annaleigh Ashford is one of my most favorite people on the planet. That is all.
really nice, did not know Jake could sing like that...very talented actor
This makes me want a film version of Sunday's so bad!!!
I fail to see any studio understanding what to do with it. As for directors I'd love to see Sam Mendes take a stab at it. He directed a great Company with Adrian Lester as Bobby. He at least would understand Sondheim.
They filmed the Mandy and Bernadette version. It’s part of a Sondheim box set
I didn't know what I was getting into when I clicked play on this video. It definitely wasn't what I got. What a pleasant and emotional surprise!!!!
emotional indeed
I had never heard of this musical until I saw this as part of the birthday tribute to Sondheim. Since then I’ve been watching the televised version with Patinkin & Peters over and over. I’ve tried to find as many clips of Ashford & Gyllenhall. 💝🥰 definitely a fave I’ll never forget now. Thanks Sondheim & Broadway!
Marissa Alexander the cast recording of “Sunday in the Park...” with these two (and Robert Sean Leanord) is spectacular! Let’s just say Spotify knows my obsession!
Marissa Alexander saw it. An honor.
I think I like this song even more this way with just the piano and vocals. I wish I could buy it.
Great to see him in a role that Mandy Patinkin made famous. Gyllenhaal's fantastic!
Jake Gyllenhaal is perfect...He should be President.
YOOOO THAT WOULD BE A DREAM
Absolutely Incredible!
They sound so wonderful together
I'd no idea that Jake Gyllenhaal could sing!
He has a great voice!
👏👍😀
Wow her voice is so angelic and like a pretty bird in the forest
Okay so I thought no one could even come close to matching Many and Bernadette's version but this is amazing, tearing up right now
May u compose forever Stephen! You will be missed, ur legacy will live on!
JAKE IS A GREAT ACTOR. NOW WE KNOW HE CAN SING TOO! WOW!!!
WOAH! JAKE ! My man can sing.👏🏼 Pleasantly surprised you're an absolute creative musical and acting genius . Beautifully sang together, Annaleigh has classic Broadway voice. Very lovely.
Thank You Stephen for so many musical gems. RIP😭
Omg how Jake feels it is touching 😢
It’s weeks or months later and I just watched Annaleigh Ashford sing this song again. I am so grateful I found this! She is an amazing actress and now, I know she is also an amazing singer! What a ball of talent!!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👏🏽👏🏽🎵👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽☀️🎶🤩⭐️⭐️
Jake was George in the Broadway revival of "Sunday in the park with George", go listen, you have been missing some good stuff ♡
WhO was gonna tell me jake gyllenhaal could sing???
Emilia May He was on Broadway!
I mean... Can he? XD
HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING UNDER A ROCK
Just another reason to love Jake Gyllenhaal❤️❤️❤️❤️
The world, for like, a decade.
I’m in awe of people who can sing 🎵
Anneleigh Ashford is Amazing!!!!!!!! 💙💙💙🌈❤️☀️👍🏽💕
I am absolutely obsessed with this video. I watch it daily. Love them
There is music here
Music there
Music, music everywhere!
I judge any performance of Sunday by Dot's intonation on "Let others make that decision, they usually do!" ... Mess us up the "let" and "usually" and, well, that's the show. -- She is great.
I saw the original on Broadway... three times. Twice with Bernadette and Mandy and once with Bernadette's replacement. Since then it's been like trying to catch lighting in a bottle of a musical and a specific song that completely moved me...this song. I've seen it again at the Kennedy Center, Broadway, and other DC theaters. I had no idea Jake could sing. And Annaleigh I didn't know until I saw a promo for the Hudson theater...I though maybe lighting..I bought my tickets at the Hudson. I should step out of my explanation to say my partner went with me and, sometimes humored me, to see all these performance. And then the Hudson. When we walked out he said: I finally get it....he finally understood what I saw. It's a love story first and foremost with art as an overlay. It's great, all the part about children and art and what you do, but look at the soul of this musical. Two people and how they can or can't relate and what each gave to the other. Thank you Annaleigh and Jake. Lightning was caught and I'll remember your performance as my last.
Definitely check out their 2017 Broadway Cast Recording if you haven't already! I've listened to them sing this so many times that I could feel the exact inflection they'd use to sing this - so great
I literally had shivers. This is so perfect, so emotional. What a beautiful song and interpretation! 😍
He always be my favorite. 💞😍🌺
The reason why I’m bi
Absolutely gorgeous!
I can hear Anthony from Sweeney Todd in Jake voice too. This is 🤯
I had no idea Jake Gyllenhaal sang😳 amazing!👏 love this!
Absolutely beautiful! Powerful, soul stirring voices in the midst of our national pain. Very soothing.
Wished I could’ve seen this production. I’m stuck out here in Portland with no Broadway shows and no decent Corned Beef
😂
I had no idea Jake could sing, much less this well . WOW!
bravo at these two. it is VERY HARD to follow Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters in their iconic roles.
i had no clue Jake Gyllenhaal could sing. im impressed
Anna Leigh has a lovely voice. So Sondheim. Tones from ‘into the words’.
She is my new favorite voice, and I had no idea he could sing. I hear Mandy Patinkin, when I hear him. Would love to hear him in something new.
This to Sondheim AND Jake - if they ever make a movie of Company, you would make an excellent Bobby.
He would make a great Bobby
He’s a good singer but Bobby’s songs are really difficult. Being Alive. Jake has some difficulty with some of the high notes. I can hear it cause his range is similar to mine 😂 really nice voice though. Would love to see a movie of Company as well as Sunday in the Park.
This is the most beautiful thing I've heard and I'm gonna cherish this for the rest of my life
I stumbled upon the gold standard for this piece, the Bernadette-Mandy version on TH-cam three days ago. Since then I have watched it 3 times.... I was thinking - Feature Film. Couldn't figure out who should be in it... until now. Beautifully done.
been waiting for this to be posted so i could watch on repeat
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽that was beautiful thank you. This is how I am feeling at the moment about the year 2020...🎼🎤dear 2020 move onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn🎼
Wow! Who knew. So good. Love the musical. Love this rendition.
I love that both of the top comments are about having crushes on one of these two 😂
I really love this .... They are amazing and the song is so emotional ❤️
Happy first post existence birthday Mr. Sondheim
You cannot know how perfect this is for me in this moment. Thank you!
i swear im in love with annaleigh
Me too ❤️
So good! Rip Stephen Sondheim.
Just amazing. I’ve been back to listen to this so many times.
How does it still feel like SONDHEIM is not appreciated enough. ♡♡ and those who can beautifully embody that mutual challenge. Color. Light. More hot pies. ♡
I love this. He is so talented.
Dear God this is what I needed today. Excuse me while I weep all the pain away.
Amazing singer. Thank you.
Gorgeous performance!
Goosebumps. This was amazing!
