    I don't know how they could produce these majestic songs and then stick them in a drawer and do Electric.

      Money. Trend chasing. Sums it up. Ended up screwing themselves over in the end. They wanted to be US corporate rock, when late 80s corporate died off in favor of grunge, so did The Cult.

      @@Strimbles Comically bad take. Rubin wrecked everything that was The Cult and made them a bad AC/DC vanity act. Anyone with an sense of appreciation of alternative music generally sees that. The Cult wasn't about "Balls." They were more about the swirling stuff between the notes. Rubin stripped what made them special for low wattage mulletheads.

    I’m glad Electric and Electric (Manor Sessions) exist. It’s a good at to look in from a couple of different angles to see what the artists were up to. I find different versions of the various songs to be interesting depending on my mood.

    What a chorus, totally agree, this sounds so much better, it's huge, sometimes a Rubin production works, Electric did on some levels, but it didn't show The Cult in their total majesty of making soundscapes, sometimes Rubin just needs to sit back and not turn amazing bands in on themselves, The Cult Manor Sessions shows you that, yeah, Electric was good, but imagine if they kept these, how would they have evolved again, anyway, doesn't matter, only my daft opinion, what I do know is, The Cult are one of thee best bands to come out of Britain, PERIOD!.

    Syncopated vocals bordering on old-school 80's rap/hip-hop. Ian & Billy were fans of the Beastie Boys too! But Rick Rubin did the right thing by stripping down their sound to raw bluesy hard rock with Electric. Keep the Manor Sessions as a keepsake novelty. 🤙🤘 👏

    Music is actually better than the Electric album version, the riff at 1:28 after the first verse is pure gold and sounds like a beautifully natural extension of the Love album. But dear lord, Ian is a hot mess here.

      In my opinion, this is true in all cases of the sessions for what would have been "Peace" - save for the original version of "Electric Ocean", the E.Zee studios take of "Love Removal Machine", as well as the demo for "Groove Co.". Those are probably even superior to the Manor sessions. I have never been keen on what Rubin did to the band's sound. To my mind, the work done with Steve Brown just needed a remix to sharpen its attack and definition - as proven by the "Peace Remix" of "Love Removal Machine". Each to their own, however.

      Wild flower sounds atrocious in the Electric version. The passion from the Peace version was nonexistent, and no beautifully psychedelically textured guitars.

    • @zoso1980
      @zoso1980 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yup. The 'grafting' of bridges or choruses on Electric feel shoehorned in there by a butt-rocker. And, they were under the direction of Rubin. The glaring one is "Talkin' 'Bout Love" on the chorus on Love Removal Machine. It's so cringe and awkward. The original chorus is beautiful. Even Jamie Stewart lamented it being removed from the song.

      I'll tell you this, they'd be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame now if they had. The drastic corporate rock US makeover showed them too willing to radically alter themselves for trends. Just a little too shameless on chasing dollars, and trashing their existing audience.

    • @zoso1980
      @zoso1980 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Nope, they'd have done just fine. If they'd stayed consistent, they be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Their over-the-top corporate rock sound DID sink them when the 80s rock scene died. So did the interest in The Cult. Chase the trends, you fall out of favor after awhile, too.

      He wrecked them, that's for sure. Took a band on the rise and stripped them of everything that made them great. One of the biggest fuck-ups in rock music of the era by my reckoning. Wrecked a band that didn't need to radically alter their sound. Rubin brown nosers can't see The Cult were great already, and what Rubin did was transform them into a 3rd rate AC/DC. Galactic fuck up. Most of the stuff you hear today on the radio in the US is from LOVE. Not from Electric. US Radio doesn't touch it today.

      Low wattage corporate rock for mainstream US audiences. Not the depth, swirling and touches of psychedelia that The Cult were, and had cultivated with a base of fans in the UK and Europe. The told their UK and European audiences to 'piss off' with Electric. Electric/Sonic Temple and even Ceremony are a trifecta of US corporate rock. It's ok in spots. At least Sonic Temple and Ceremony feel a little more authentic. Electric is piss poor US pandering and trend chasing while taking songs that had all the special ingredients of The Cult and turning them into US bar tunes. Blech.

    Man, the Electric version of this is way fucking better. My God, is this the same band. Fuck, this sounds like a cover band that got drunk and couldn't play in the first place. I can't believe people actually think this is better. Obviously the ones who do are either family of the band or not musicians. This sounds like Chicago did a cover of Peace Dog with Ian singing over it.

      I can understand the people that think this was better. It’s sounds like the obvious progression after “Love”. Although Ian sounds lost, he has no melodies. For people like me “Electric” was simply a second rate AC/DC with the same production techniques Rubin used for Danzig. I don’t hate Electric but I never listened to the Cult with interest after Love.
