      Love this latest project, another beautiful winner, and Brilliant seems like a good app. It should be pointed out to them however that presenting a case study about turning dwellings into AirBnB properties (2:53) is particularly tone-deaf in a time of housing crisis and homelessness.

    That's a tricky one but it's a good one. The solution where the ceiling meets the stone wall is clean, brilliant, and grounds the space. It's a beautiful, warm, and cozy solution which preserves the integrity of the architecture.

    This turned into a very stylish Zen- like house. With the added summer kitchen outdoors quite the extrakitted tiny house. Always delightef to see plans that dont involve big screens (tv).
    I think I'd love this, without the door on the bookshelf, and a few chosen artworks. I love the sleeping nook corresponding with the height of that window! ❤

    I am always impressed that every design has at least a washing machine! Always nice to not have to go to the laundromat. I also feel like a lot of small spaces will sacrifice having a washing machine, but yours never leave it out which is great!

    • @gnarbeljo8980
      @gnarbeljo8980 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It can be a very long drive to a public laundry facility in rural France (and rural Europr in general), and this was a car free island (with or without road to the mainland) if I understood correctly. Small villeages don't necessarily have laundromats like the US.

    I lkike the ideas that you have shared in this video - in a space that is really quite small and pretty challenging! I would want to try and get some form of opening into the bedroom loft so that both light and fresh air flowed into it - maybe be keeping it open instead of enclosed, just putting something like a low fence enclosure along the exposed edge. I think that might work a bit better, in particular as this building will only accommodate one, or maybe two people max. Also from a parctical point of view, making the bed in the loft is going to be a very challenging task, even for the most patient of people.. Interesting concept, and a great place to start from... 🙂

    Beautiful! The only thing is that loft bed would be a bit scary getting up in the night - I feel a more solid access, whilst it might take away from the lounge area, would make safer space. I imagine this building will be a holiday let but even so - that's a tricky access and I'd be scared of falling out during the night. But it's beautiful as are all your designs - maybe a double sofa bed is a better iption here,

    @thespectator1243 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Very nice design! :D
    There is only one thing that bothers me somewhat, namely that the toilet is to close to the bed(s).
    I am paraphrasing the Feng Shui channel "Dear Modern" here, that toilets should not be to close to dining or sleeping areas, even if separated by walls.
    But since I am not an expert, the only idea that comes to (my) mind is to put the toilet on the opposite side of the wall.
    If possible even closer to the outer wall (the foot-end of the upper bed), where in your current layout the deeper storage is located.
    This would have the added benefit of more privacy for anyone using the toilet.
    Of course this would necessitate a rearranging of the bathroom.
    Maybe the deep storage - if it is used for a washer / dryer combo - at the end where currently the shower is located?
    The sink opposite of the door, and left of it - in front to the toilet - a small shelf?
    Would a bathtub-shower-combo work in this room?
    I am sorry for throwing a spanner in your work, but since I started delving into Feng Shui I started to notice a lot of things, and have changed several arrangements in my own apartment.
    And it actually feels better now! ;)
    Apart from this, I really like your design.
    I envy who ever will have the pleasure to live in this house. ^^

    A question not a criticism - why have/do you not consider/use sinks on top of toilet cisterns ? I really enjoy your videos and sometimes think that by using that kind of sink you could gain extra space within the bathroom, especially in examples such as this one?
    Absolutely love the sleeping nook in this one - really cute.

    • @gemmawheeler
      @gemmawheeler  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah a few people have asked me that. I have nothing against them. They’re pretty clever. I guess I would see them as a last resort for an absolutely minuscule space where you definitely couldn’t fit a separate sink. I aim to give tiny spaces as much comfortable obstacle-free movement space as possible so that the inhabitants aren’t reminded that they’re in a tiny space and having to accommodate compromises. I think brushing your teeth with the toilet bowl potentially in the way of your legs seems a bit of an obstacle? 🤷‍♂️

    How on earth do make up the bed in the second floor nook?

  • @mariastathopoulos744
    @mariastathopoulos744 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

    The upper bedroom is not functional. How would you change the bedding? I would have used the upper space as an attic space for storage.
    The bathroom seems a bit too large for the size of the floorplan.
    Having the day bed right by the hearth is also impractical. The heat of the wood fire would be uncomfortable to be so close to it.
    The daybed needs to have some distance from the hearth.

  • @jenndoesstuff
    @jenndoesstuff 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I love some of your ideas, like the concealed storage around the wood stove and the storage bench, but, overall, I just don't really like it when these historical buildings are made into the ultra-modern Scandinavian minimalist style that's everywhere these days. It's a bit like buying a minivan and putting racing stripes and track tires on it. If you're going to buy a historic cottage, I think you should also try to preserve the original style as much as possible. Just go buy a modern condo if that's what you want anyway. The character in a building isn't just in the facade. That's just my two cents, though. I still like the video and I applaud your ability to see the utility in difficult spaces, I just don't know that I agree that said utility has to automatically go hand-in-hand with ultra-modern styling.
