Great review, thanks! Tomorrow I'm getting one of these machines because there's one for sale at the local Lidl supermarket for just about the same money that you paid for yours. Hopefully it'll still be there tomorrow morning. Looking forward to start working with it.👍
Hi Jon, I am isolating in India again prior to joining the ship. So your videos assume even greater importance to me. I really like Parkside tools. They have allowed me to add functionalty to my workshop very affordably. They are well made enough to stand up to whatever I can do to them. I have the off hand grinder/belt linisher version of that. Hope all is good with you.
Hi Carl, thanks for the comment. Yep, pretty pleased with it, may upgrade it over time to beef it up a bit, better table, maybe a diamond wheel option for carbide etc. Safe travels mate, all good this end. Cheers, Jon
I've had 3 of the MasterCrap (MasterCraft is Canadian Tire's Value Added Brand) Combo Bench Sanders apart, and I'll bet that that tinny/springy sound is the spring and levers for the belt change mechanisms... Slipping bicycle tube bits over the springs might help.
It’s also pretty good at grinding big chunks of skin from you finger. Don’t try to sand objects that can fit under the Stop Guard. Oh and… Don’t think you can stop your fingers from following the thin workpiece under the Stop Guard, because you can’t.
I have the smaller brother of this Lidl machine. The one with just the disc. 29€ I tore off the Velcro, glued a centering 16mm x 2mm in the middle, and let 6 magnets into the disc. In addition, a small indentation has been ground into the aluminum disc so that you can hook behind the diamond grinding discs with a screwdriver and quickly remove them from the magnets. So I can quickly change diamond grinding wheels. Similar to Stefan Gotteswinter's video. Just no pins in the aluminum plate and holes in the diamond grinding wheels. You don't need them if the magnets are far out and strong enough. I use it to sharpen lathe tools and drill bits. In the last "big test" with 70 old drills, I was able to grind them in about 52 seconds each. with something like 400 or 600 grid. With the angle plate in front of the grinding wheel, you can easily set the clearance angle of 10 degrees and the point angle of 118 degrees. The only thing you then have to do manually is that the two cutting edges of the drill meet in the middle / are of the same length.
Hi MPenzlin, thanks for the comment and suggestion. I definitely plan some upgrades, I remember watching Stefan's video way back when, I will go and re-watch. I like your ideas so thank you for offering them up, very useful. Cheers, Jon
Always useful bit of kit provided you can the belts easily, there being no standard length unlike 6 inch discs. If not mentioned in the chinglish book of words, tension is usually achieved by adjusting both tracking knobs.
Hi Chris, thanks for the comment. Very pleased with it so far for the outlay. There is only one adjuster to tilt the end roller to get the tracking right. When I take the tinny back plate off in an attempt to make it more rigid (and quiet), I should be able to get a look at the mechanism. Will do an update. Cheers, Jon
I've had 2 versions of them over the last 10 years Jon they are a bit limited for doing knife bevels but ok too start on. I mainly use mine for touching drills up and majority of use is for wood. Get some ceramic belts for it so much better. Cheers
Good morning Jon. I bought one of these from Axminster a few years ago and it's had a lot of use. The Axminster one is now £149 so you've had a very good buy. The weak link is the adjustable table for the disc sander but this can be fixed and it's possible to set the angle on this table very accurately using a protractor and machinist's jacks / parallels below. Best wishes and thanks for the video, Stephen.
Hi Stephen, thanks for the comment. Yes, the angled table is definitely a bit shoddy, fine for wood probably but needs some work to make it more stable. I may even convert the disc to a diamond wheel for carbide grinding as well as beefing up the table. Cheers, Jon
Thanks for showing this Jon. I think that you may find it much more useful if you leave it in the vertical position and fit a bigger table. I use my one all the time, your will soon wonder how you ever managed without one. Regards from Australia.
Hi Dave, thanks for the comment and advice. I am going to upgrade it at some point with better quality tables, and I think permanent vertical is a good plan as I may be able to use the space under the belt section to mount a polishing mop or wire wheel etc. I may even convert the disc section to diamond wheel for carbide. Cheers, Jon
I have the Delta version of this sander. It comes in very handy. One of my favorite uses is roughing in HHS cutters for my lathe when I need to remove a lot of material to make some kind of custom profile tool bit. Sanding belts and disks are a lot cheaper than grinding wheels. You are going to find a million and one uses for that thing.
Hi Denny, thanks for the comment. Yes, once I had ground the drill up my first thought was HSS blanks, with the adjustable table it will make roughing out turning/shaping tools a whole lot easier as you can grind compound clearance angles very easily. Cheers, Jon
I have the Machine Mart version. The table's die cast aluminium & not so flimsy. I bought a second table (they're cheap) for the belt part & have them both permanently fixed but adjustable. The belt's a bit slow for metal but useful nonetheless. To be fair I think they're sold for woodwork. Btw the dust extractor point works a treat with your shop vac.
Hi Dave, thanks for the comment. I have yet to plug the shop vac in but will definitely be using it when I am not filming (noisy thing that it is). I plan to upgrade the table at some point as well to beef it up a bit. Cheers, Jon
Gday Jon, for the price I don’t think you can go wrong, I’ve got an old sherline and it’s a bit under powered but it still does the job, thanks for sharing mate, cheers
Hi Matty, thanks for the comment. Totally agree, about 3/4 of the cost to fill my car with diesel to put it into perspective, really can't go wrong. Cheers, Jon
Hi Jon, Now that was very interesting, I was thinking of making a flatbed linisher but seeing that I think I'll try Lidl first, it looks like something that could be most useful.
Hi Del, thanks for the comment. I was going to do similar, but for this price and 3 years peace of mind, why bother is the conclusion I came to. Can't fault it so far mate. Cheers, Jon
A fair review. I am fortunate that I can pick up the occasional machine, for peanuts, from an auction site I have frequented during the summer months over the last few years. I bought a Record Power PBS150 with no table, some years ago. A good machine for the price (£15?). I have since added a second one with a table (£20?) - with a view to making a second table and selling off one machine. Still got both as they are such a useful piece of kit. These old ones are noisier than yours, but I can put up with that. The fence on the new versions is far better, too. I see these lidl models are now offered for £130 (free postage) on that well known auction site!
Hi Kev, thanks for the comment, go for it, can't go wrong at this price with 3 years peace of mind. I would definitely buy another based on what I have seen already. Cheers, Jon
Hi, I have not checked the sizes or sought any spares yet but I suspect they will be standard and readily available to keep the initial cost of the unit down. Cheers, Jon
That's a nice addition to the shop. If you want you could make the rest supports a little bit stronger and thicker because I hate tinny things too. You could make a video maybe.
Nice addition Jon, I have one about the same dimensions and it is indispensable. I just purchased a packet of 6" assorted grit disks online because I had trouble sourcing them locally, Great review, enjoyed very much, cheers!
HI I,ve got two Parkside tools angle grinder and Die grinder .the die has expired ,the brushes were like chalk usless it burnt out before I relised what had happned. the angle started the same way I caught it before it burnt out, I put different brushes in it has been ok since, good luck, keep an eye on the brushes.
Hah !! BTDT... When all else fails... read the instructions ! 😂 I missed buying this last time but I'll grab it next time its on sale...🤗 I've been upgrading my Parkside gear to the brushless Performance range of tools, so much more powerful and better built ...buying them "bare" makes them very affordable. I also recently bought the 8Ah bluetooth smart battery , a bit spendy but a nice addition to my battery collection of 4 - 2Ah and 4 - 4Ah Team X 20v platform... That drill looked more like a ball endmill before you sharpened it ... 😂 I'm wondering will abrasive belts be easily available, the discs should be...🤔 😎👍☘️🍺
Hi Peter, thanks for the comment (just catching up). Parkside stuff is pretty good gear, no complaints so far. I think Lidl occasionally stock the belts for these, next time the have some in I will empty the shelf lol. Cheers, Jon
Some Parkside tools are ok for light usage but they're not going to stand up to heavy duty use mate. I bought an angle grinder for 25 euros in Dublin and the thing is a beast. I have used it for all sorts and it works like a savage every time I use it. It's electric. I cannot abide all the nonsense with the batteries and chargers bollocks mate. Don't know why I bothered to tell u all this.. hahaha! I would like to pick one of these bad boys up to see how they work. I'm really only learning woodworking atm and I'm not spending big money on tools until I improve to the point that I really have to buy them.

Hi Andrew, thanks for the comment. Yep, has a lot of the G Shock watch look about it lol. Can't go wrong at the price though. Well pleased so far. Cheers, Jon
Good machine Jon. You can't beat these for breaking edges and facing stuff. I think you will find it much easier to sharpen drills in the vertical position. This basically replicates doing it on the side of a grinding wheel. The speed is also right. Gotta have one in the workshop. Good pick up. Cheers Rob
Hi Rob, thanks for the comment. I will try a vertical drill grind at some point. I can see this being very useful, especially for grinding HSS tooling for the lathe/shaper with the ability to put compound angles on in one go very repeatedly. Cheers, Jon

Hi Max, thanks for the comment. Lol, already in that place mate and it only came out the box yesterday lol. Cheers, Jon
Hi Jon great addition to the shop; I have a Ryobi version of this and it has been great over the last 3 years thanks for sharing Cheers.
Hi Paul, thanks for the comment. I am sure I am going to get good use out of this, been wanting one for ages. Cheers, Jon
