This might be one of the best games of the speed run, because it's a scenario in which black declines the gambit in an unconventional fashion, yet defends very well. Meanwhile, Danya attacks on the kingside in a way he wouldn't do against a GM, making it instructive for both white's perspective and black's perspective. Excellent opponent, and excellent game!

Also there were no blunders, which makes the game over immediately.
As the rating climbs, the game quality does too.

The engine actually had it -3 for black after Daniel sacrificed his bishop. Definitely not something you would want to do against someone that is your strength

@@goldenboy140 I think Danya was just trying to emphasise practical difficulty over engine difficulty though. You should be interpreting his lessons in your own way and applying them in a way that relates to your level and experience... in my opinion anyway

Its all about acknowledging and taking away your opponents defensive resources. Very good and common technique that is used when attacking. Sometimes you have to pause and think, how can my opponent defend? and try to remove that.

Interestingly, Danya misevaluates 8. e5! which in fact wins immediately.
Bxf3 is impossible because upon Qxf3, the knight and rook are both attacked. b4 fails in multiple ways, the simplest being 9. exf6 bxc3 10. fxg7 Bxg7 11. bxc3 and white is a clean pawn up. If 8. ...dxe5, 9. dxe5 Nd5 10. e6! is in fact very strong. 10. ...fxe6 11. Ne5 results in a position where it is basically impossible to develop anything for black, and many moves allow a fatal Qh5+. g6 can never be played safely because there are too many pieces eyeing g6, enabling winning sacrifices to occur on that square. Danya is way too overoptimistic about black's chances for survival after this pawn sacrifice.

    • @Musicrafter12

Just play the Pin Defense, and eschew the Scheveningen structure most people go into. The Pin Defense is not only easier to play, but it's also less familiar to white players so they will often make mistakes due to not knowing what to do. The main ideas are to develop the bishop to b4, and sometimes (but not always) exchange it for the knight to force white to put a pawn on the c-file and close it off. Rather than put a pawn on d6, you leave it on d7, perhaps counterintuitively leaving the d6 square available as a potential hole for white to occupy, but if he occupies it, a lot of his major piece pressure is blunted, and black can often boot a bishop or queen out of that square eventually anyway. The kingside knight often develops to e7 and then to g6, to take the f4 square under control, a square to which white often wants to deploy a bishop.
I have an excellent score against the Morra in my games thanks to adopting this defense, and I am no longer afraid at all of accepting the gambit, even in blitz.
