Wow,what an exercise! Just incorporated these into my delt workout.I could only use the bar!!! Really focused on the isometric and eccentric parts, and what a pump. Thanks guys 👍
Whoa I saw my dad doing a variation of this exercise 40 years ago but he was standing upright. I still do it today as part of my tricep routine. As my mom used to say there’s nothing new under the sun
straight $$ for shoulder development. I have to use a pvc pipe right now. The gym I'm in only has 45lb bars which is too heavy for me doing this movement.
I used to do this back in the ghetto, we were young and using a lot of improvised equipment. No one could remember where it came from but we all loved it, and were jacked as hell! But we grew up and moved on and somehow it got lost along the way. until I saw this video. now I am gonna bring it back
Wow, an absolute GENIUS move! It's literally the opposite movement of the front barbell raise. Just as the front barbell raise targets the front delts, this one targets the rear delts, going through an entire range of motion of just pure shoulder extension!
That's a great angle. If you've had lower back surgeries (like me) and can't hold this 45 degree position for the duration of the set, try this movement using a double cable machine while laying face down on an incline bench
I did it Wednesday with 5lb weight dumbbells but it felt weird. I tried it again Thursday with a stick and OMG it was awesome 👏🏽 just using the stick was difficult but so good!!!
The best movement I've found is laying flat on the ground below a cable machine with 2 rope attachments and doing pull-aparts. Pulling behind the ears so the balls of the rope touch the ground with head slightly elevated with a towel or something.
@@MrNixey yeah I tried that behind the back delt extension, the cables are definitely better for delts. Cables and rubber bands, they hit that muscle different from other exercises
That's awesome - we have various weighted bars at the gym and these are perfect to progress to the 30lb BB! Love it! You guys are all awesome! Love from Canada
Do you mean palms down, to get external rotation of the shoulder? His palms ARE up at 1:26. That said, it feels to me that if the palms are down and the shoulder is externally rotated, then the long head of the triceps gets worked good. Not sure of the difference in rear delt work.
Just tried it. I had my son video it. I feel it in long head of triceps but you can see rear delts firing at top of rep. I also tried some partial reps at the top as well.
you guys are the best. well rounded knowledge, good tips always, good team spirits. never hesitated to bringing in outside experts to round up the content. keep it up guys !!
I now have a barbell. Is that preferred over the EZ bar? Also, is there a common name for this movement or do I put "Secret Barbell Movement" in my workout log?
holy shit man i tried that yesterday i tried a little bit wider and i go heavy 4-6 reps and today the rear delt fibers i could feel them burning, i think iwill use this as a power exercise for rear delts its amazing, does it work also middle-lower traps or you need some kind of fly for that?
Gonna do these in 2 days time. Two sets bb rear delt row with 30kg for 10 reps, two sets face pulls with db 7kgs each hand, two sets with the 10 kg barbell of rear delt raises.
No it doesn't, for tricep activation you need to flex and extend yr elbow to get tricep muscle recruitment. So keep yr bilateral elbows in extension throughout the full range of motion for maximum rear deltiod work.
Question: I’ve tried this and it is really good. But something I’ve noticed is that if you do the movement with a wider grip, it will work like hell on the lats (got lats in pain for 2 straight days, hard to take off my shirt 😂). It’s like doing a pulldown, but for me it worked a lot more then a regular pulldown!
I was loving this exercise for about a month or so, but I was beginning to feel a pain in my rib just under my pec in the nipple area. Well I think I finally went too hard with the motion and it’s put me out of working out much of anything upper body now because of the sharp pain which is similar to how pleurisy feels :-/
Did you start doing it slowly and progress gradually? (like, only a stick first week, +1 kg second week, +2 kg third week, and so on, adding only +1 kg every week). Also, ensure your reps last 5 secs each (at least), don't do them too fast. It's also a good idea to film yourself on video, to ensure there's not any asymmetry in the movement. Finally, use both a pronated and a supinated grip (alternate grip every set)
Seems like the only exercise that manages to work my rear delts, only one with which I can get a good feel and soreness. Meanwhile I can do 3 reps of anything for the chest and I'll get 1 week soreness and gain 1 kg of muscle.... -.-
Hilarious. Been around for decades. Straight Bar Kickback. This was a hit before your Mother was born....though she was born a long long time ago...your Mother should know.
Y Fish I used it at the end of my workout as an accessory. It was ok. Nothing extraordinary. I'll use it sometimes though, but definitely not every workout.
I use the easy bar 30 lbs and it’s the best rear delt pump ever. I can’t feel it with any other exercise like this one.

What do we call this movement? Naruto Barbell Reardelt? I'm going to give this a go tonight!
Rear Delt Kickback similar to Tricep kickback
Crouched Rear Delt Reverse Barbell Raise
Lol I think I'll go with Naruto raise 😂
barbell skier
Bent-over barbell reverse raise

do with a curlbar they are like 25pounds or so
do it on a low cable pulley ! use a str8 lat bar

This is a fantastic move for rear delta thank you guys, tried this week and realised I have never worked them full stop (period I believe you say)
I'm at work and just raided the janitor's closet for a broom to try this shit out
Does it train triceps and most importantly the long head? Please answer me mind pump🙏
I did it Wednesday with 5lb weight dumbbells but it felt weird. I tried it again Thursday with a stick and OMG it was awesome 👏🏽 just using the stick was difficult but so good!!!
Thanks I've found a new exercise to add to my workouts!
Did this first time today, never felt my rear delts hit like this lol
Awesome! I've been searching for something to replace rear delt rows for a while

Wouldn't it be wiser and more productive to use a palms up grip so your shoulders are externally rotated rather than internally?
Yep
Well your grip is stronger pronated and I think it doesn't matter that much for rear delt activation
Do you mean palms down, to get external rotation of the shoulder? His palms ARE up at 1:26.

I can totally understand that conversation in the beginning.
Having a home gym and running out of gains from just face pulls, this is life changing.
Can an EZ-Bar be used for this? I workout at home and am gradually getting equipment.
BSeab1024 yes
I now have a barbell. Is that preferred over the EZ bar? Also, is there a common name for this movement or do I put "Secret Barbell Movement" in my workout log?
BSeab1024 you are asking some weird ass questions man
I've seen it called Renegade rows when done with DB's.

I am feeling some tension on my lats too, so i am doing it right or not?
Ol school...same exercise for triceps , except bend elbows to upside down L ...extend, return to bent elbow position...BOTH EXCELLENT EXERCISES...
I love Tricep kickbacks

good stuff. some extra tricep work too
Just learned this the other day, freaking love it! Definitely a killer!

oh this looks legit!!! I can't wait to try it!!!!

Excellent.
I Never Comment On Anything But Bro Your The Rear Delt God For this one this was awsome workouttt
This also works the long head of the triceps. You feel this a lot in your triceps also.
Yup I've seen this movement done to fully contract the long head and put it in it's shortest position. Good to know this movement has double benefits
No it doesn't, for tricep activation you need to flex and extend yr elbow to get tricep muscle recruitment. So keep yr bilateral elbows in extension throughout the full range of motion for maximum rear deltiod work.
@@metal1mark73 it still trains them isometrically
I always feel it in my triceps too
i been doing this for years now lol it's my fave exercise

arms are behind body meaning lats get super contracted in the position, harder than when in front
Been having pain between my shoulder blades, this is a great move to counter that.
How heavy isthat bar ?
how bad is this for the shoulders? Athlean - x (Jeff ) usually says behind the back movements aren't very good for shoulders
This move will kill your gains...
He hasn't neglected his rear delts but he sure has neglected his calves...
Özcan Güneş calf development is hereditary. Some people can't get big ass calves without serious roids
he is a slender /tall man ,genetics like that very hard to gain lower leg
I hit calves 3 times a week and they are still small.
Thanks Ozcan Gunes: Guys today. Never say gangster wearing that outfit dancing around like a sausage sucker in a gym. Just doesn't work!
Özcan Güneş - It has a lot to do with high calf insertions. If you have it, your calves won't look as big, no matter what you do.
How much does it weight the barbell that you guys were using in this video? Thank you .
They said that particular barbell was 35lbs. He normally uses a 45lb barbell
Awesome thanks a lot I've been looking for something
That's my super favorite move...love this
I saw this move on T-Nation years ago from Max Shank, he coined it the "Shank Raise" or something like that.
