I’ll give you a pro tip that I have found on storing gasoline, Store only gasoline without ethanol. Yes, it cost about a dollar a gallon more sometimes even more than that, but I have stored that kind of gasoline for five years or more without detriment and it runs perfectly in all my small engines. However, it has to be stored in an airtight container like a NATO style gas can that seals up. Plastic cans will not do this they leak vapor pressure and the gasoline will go bad. One last thing, I have a little champion 4500 W generator that I bought for hurricane years ago. It’s been sitting in my garage for the last five years with non-ethanol gas in it. I haven’t touched it in those five years and I pulled it out just before the last hurricane came through the Texas coast and decided to see what I needed to do to get it running. I turned on the gas turned on the ignition and one pole of the crank and it started right up. That’s what non-ethanol gas will do for you.

Thanks Texasscout I appreciate the advice, if you didn't catch the accent Im canadian and its darn near impossible to get ethanol free gas up here any more :( and the nato gas cans are scarce so I ahve to buy them from the states adn bring them back with me.

Hello and nice video. You had stated you had the Firman generator 9400 tri fuel from Costco. My question is you talked about dirty power and that you used this generator on your whole house and it didn’t bother any of your equipment, tv computers etc. Did it do any damage to your furnace control board or evthing ok I take it? I just remember you saying that the dirty level was higher than what is considered non dirty but not high enough to bother anything in the home. So I hoping the 9400 you did several videos on is still a good recommendation despite it making a bit of dirty power and not being an inverter gen. Hey thanks

Fantastic video. I have a 45kw generator that runs off the tractor. It big enough to run everything on the farm. But it also takes 7.5 gallons of diesel an hour.

Great information. One of the most useful videos on this subject.
I would add two more subjects:
    Running time.
    1) How to determine how long you can continuously run different models of generators.
I will use natural gas, a continuous flow of fuel,
    2) What are the requirements for resting a generators for multi day power outages.
    Thanks for your video!

He's right about getting an electric start! I don't have that, and it's NOT easy to start a 7800RW generator! It's got a great motor made by Subaru, but in a Hurricane it's a REAL pain in the butt! Also, if you can figure out a way to get both a smaller solar generator and a fuel based one, you can charge your Solar generator off the fuel one, and run that at night! You don't have to worry about your big one getting stolen as you sleep! Getting the wires into the house can also be an issue... I've got a good system now, but didn't before, and I had rain & high winds coming in the window. Now I've got a dedicated plug.

We have natural gas to our house, considering between 6000-10000w running. We want to hook up to the house with an interlock kit. Do we need an inverter generator and do they only come trifuel?

If you’re looking at running any sensitive electronics furnaces with electronic circuit boards, that sort of thing then yes you’re gonna want an inverter generator. The downside is there’s a lot less options in the natural gas side of things so it’s a bit of a struggle to find exactly what you’re looking for but there are some 10,000 W natural gas inverter generators out there.

I had a Honda EX4500 for 30 years, never had a noise complaint, the Honda finally gave out. I live in California so no body can sell Hondas here. Lowe's had old new stock Firman generators witch they are allowed to sell in California. I got a Firman HO7553 generator, set it up and started the breaking in procedure. A neighbor cam over and said, I hope you are not going to use that thing at night, I said yes if I need power. They called the city inspector, he came with a decimal meter. Got a reading of 90 decimals, in this city the high limit is 60 decimals. I said no problem, Lowe's will take it back. I will go another state, where I can buy another Honda, I should have done this in the first place.

For the record I would want to make sure they follow proper procedures regarding measuring sound. Its supposed to be measured at 6 feet away and then again at 20 feet, the only way I could get 90 db was right at the exhaust which is not a valid test. But before I read your whole comment I was going to reccomend going out of state as well. LOL thanks for taking the time to share.
