    So very frustrating! Maddening actually! Have a 2013 Chrysler 200s. Issues started with a check engine light and ASD light coming on. Simultaneously lost heat on the passenger side and began making a loud clicking noise on the passenger side. Everything online indicated a bad actuator door and the error code said there was a fault either in the braking, and or, cruise control unit. Took it to the dealership. They replaced actuator and a brake sensor, collected $634 and sent us on our way. The same day the cruise control stopped working again...and again, no heat on passenger side. We took it back and now they want $1900 to replace the heater core, replace coolant reservoir, replace the HVAC control unit, and do a radiator flush. They somehow seem to have reworded everything to ensure they are not billing for something they should have friggin found, and fixed the first time! I appreciate this video...and will try this myself before going back to the dealership...or any shop. Just chaps me that these dealerships can get away with this kind of behavior...since they can't sell cars these days I guess the gotta make money somewhere and no one seems to question how they do it. Thanks again for posting!

    Thank you for the video I have a 2012 Chrysler 200 Sport with a 3.6 engine. I'm having the same exact problem today and honestly the heater cores installed at the factory, the tubes are very small compared to the aftermarket ones. I replaced a heater core in a 1995 Chrysler LeBaron. From what I learned, if there's more than a 25 degree tempereature drop on the heater core outlet hose, you have a plugged heater core. Use the works toilet bowl cleaner to clean heater core. Excellent product and cheaply priced.

    Thanks for a great video. It's very helpful. I've had this problem with my 2008 Chrysler Sebring and all my local mechanic would say is "its something behind the dash". My nephew who is a mechanic but lives in another city told finally told me what could possibly be the problem. Your video nailed it. I just paid almost $300 to replace the thermostat housing, then I had to add freon cuz the A/C was not cooling. now the mechanic says I must have a leak some place. So, I guess I have to decide if I want to put more $ in a car that is going down.

    UPDATE ! Chrysler 200 fix. Totally drain and flush the cooling system. DO NOT USE HOAT ANTIFREEZE AGAIN. EVER. The antifreeze is the problem. Switch to prestone OAT antifreeze and put a antifreeze coolant fliter inline with the heater hose going to the intake side of the heater core. This will fix this very common problem when Hoat antifreeze interacts negatively with cyclinder heads and or cooling system componets. Chrysler will not state this, but i will. Remember stay away from HOAT type antifreeze.

    If you do have to change a heater core on these cars, there's a shortcut where you cut the pipes on the inside of car. With the shorter heater core pipes, you can change out the heater core w/o removing dash.

    There's actually two thermostats inside that thermostat housing. One is a low temp. T-Stat that's actually for the heater core. Haven't talked to anybody else who knows this.That's one of the things that should be considered when somebody's getting into this. Also, all the factory HOAT coolant needs to be flushed out. Its reacting with the aluminum from the engine causing sludge to build up in the heater core and restricting, or completely blocking coolant flow. Just use typical universal antifreeze. Just a suggestion.

    I suggest using some coolant flush or heater core flush if you can find that. It's a detergent made to loosen up the the jelled up coolant. Let it sit for as long as you can, even over night if possible.
    What I did was pretty much the same as in this vid but then added the flush and let it sit for awhile. I did just a back flush a few months ago and it worked for a few months but then BAM! Same issue no heat on passenger side. Did it again with the coolant flush, so we'll see how long this works. Really don't want to buy a new heater core. I would suggest when refilling your coolant having the vehicle so the front end is raised. This will allow for air to easily rise up through the rad. Helping to remove any air locks on the system.

      I agree if it's gotten that bad or returns after a short time use a flush solution. I would follow the manufacturer instructions tho. I feel the people that invented it probably knows the product and what it can do better than I do. LOL

I rolled the dice trying to get home without a tow and lost. Good thing is poured in some gasket sealer which solved it at least temporarily for me but .......... be warned having no heat is a pretty big symptom to not ignore ....... it could lead to stranding you

  • @deniswauchope3788
    @deniswauchope3788 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video! Now I just wish I had the 2.4 engine, since it seems like all the videos dealing with radiator flush/heater core flush are for those motors. Problem is, I've got a 3.6 engine in my 2012 Chrysler 200S, and things just don't seem to add up. I took off the two heater hoses going into the firewall to flush the heater core (I've got no heat, A/C works fine, no overheating, blend doors all working, what else can it be?) but when I run the garden hose through either one of those heater hoses, water comes out from the aluminum pipes where the heater hoses were connected. WTF?
    I planned to run some radiator flush through the whole cooling system too, but found out the hard way that half the front of the car has to be taken off just to get to the drain plug on the radiator; when I did take off all the splash guards & stuff, then I found that no matter what I tried I couldn't get that drain plug to budge, mostly because I can't get a good grip on it with any tool I have. That put a pause on running radiator flush chemicals, since I still have to use the car until I've got another opportunity to work on it, and I don't want to leave them in the system for maybe a week.
    So now I'm waiting for Amazon to deliver a drain petcock socket tool, which hopefully will at least let me get this damned drain plug open. Whoever designed this Chrysler must've really hated maintenance people; this is by far, without any close contenders whatsoever, the hardest car to work on that I've ever owned! (Changed headlamps a few months ago, that took over 5 hours & cut my hands & arms to pieces. No wonder that's a $350 job at the dealers!)

    I have a 2013 chrysler 200 3.6L. Same issue. Except I can hear the "running water" noise when I start my car in the morning. I'm sure this will fix mine too. But I don't have the required coolant, since Chrysler says to use Mopar 10year I believe. All my actuators are working peoperly, all blend doors are moving properly. Either clogged or has air trapped in it. Either way this will fix clogged and air trap right?

    I have the same issue on my 2012 200 2.4 the heat works on driver side. And cold air on passenger. I tried doing a simple flush with a water hose. Still no heat. How long do I flush the heater core out for ? And is it best to use hot water other than cold water ?

    2012 Chrysler 200 touring 3.6 6cyl… 170k miles, orig owner. just got a new radiator, thermostat, ac condenser, oil coolant sensor replacement, and just recently exchanged the whole coolant reservoir. And topped with 50/50 peak coolant.
    Car ran about a needles width below the halfway mark for a few months then it started going from halfway to the 3/4 again….
    Still having thermometer regularly switch from halfway up to the 3/4 mark daily while driving no matter the outside temps. Never above 3/4 tho. Don’t seem to have any leaks but also Haven’t pressure tested the system but will do that soon.
    I have heard the fluid sloshing sound from what sounds like in front of the steering wheel for years now. Heater hasn’t worked in years. I just deal with it. But wondering if this flush would impact the temps of the cooling system?

    • @GonzosGarage
      @GonzosGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Alan Murray .... lol no problem. coolant is only travelling thru half the heater core . So the half of the heater core that warms the passenger side air has clogged coolant passages due to it is the bottom half of said heater core and this is where the slug settles. The heater core ducts and vents are the exact same no matter if you have climate control or not. Only the blend doors and hvac controls are different. A pair of vice grips with some tough rubber or even some tape around the ends just to clamp the hoses. I also reconnected my houses in reverse to change the flow direction. Just made sense to me, you know. If the coolant is always going 1 direction then build up would be in that direction. 3) New Heater core

    • @GonzosGarage
      @GonzosGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He is right about one thing. There are contaminants in the manufacturing/casting process that wasn't cleaned out properly, believed to be the sand but never proven, this has a reaction with the antifreeze/coolant that causes the impurities to release out into the cooling system and gels. Later starts to harden and settle to the bottom of all the engine components you mentioned. Eventually cause lose of heat in HVAC and in extreme cases causes engine over heating. It wasn't a recall because it wasn't a safety issue so it became a Service Bulletin. By law they are not required to notify car owners of Service Bulletins just Recalls. F'ed up ain't it!?
