I think the problem with Coby is that when he gets on a slump, he starts to get into his head. On top on that, the young guys are improving and getting more mins in Dalen, Matas, and Phillips. Watching the games this year, it seems Coby is rushing things and forcing things. What I’m not seeing is how good he was dribbling last year and that may be bc he is not handling the ball as much. But he shouldn’t forget how to be shifty and break down his defender like he has last year. His shooting has been bad. I wonder if he isn’t a good spot up shooter/catch and shooter and more of a rhythm shooter. What we do know about Coby is that it takes him time to adjust to a new role but this one has been a long drought. I hope he wakes up soon
To put this into perspective, I check his stats regularly since he’s on my fantasy basketball team, and his shooting has been absolutely atrocious. He shoots so many 3s, but he’s about 25-30% from deep. He’s had way too many turnovers and has been so inconsistent. He shined during the beginning of the season, but lately, he’s looking really shaky although he claims he’s working on his shot. He’s a great guy and I hope he resolves this issue asap.
He’s battling ankle and groin Injuries, all while being just a spot up shooter again…. This is the fingers pointing at BD as a coach AGAIN. He doesn’t coach or put players in position to be the best version of themselves, limiting all our players, drive kick out to a 3 shooter, 3 primary ball handlers.. it’s the same thing since he became the bulls coach
When Coby was playing well last season there was a contingent of Bulls fans that thought he could be our best player. And that the front office should build around him. I wasn’t in that camp mainly because he’s a streaky player. It was also chirping that he was better than Zach LaVine. Coby although a very good player is not nearly as talented as Zach. On a better team Coby would be better served being a sixth man.
I am so happy that you're talking about CW slump because I've been screaming this before the season started. Now I'm not the biggest Coby white supporter but I have to come to his defense for this rough season because you can see where his strengths were last season versus this season and most of his struggles coming from having to play off the ball so much
haize, i think that's exactly what it is, exactly what you said. They wanted to play bunch of young players and that's it. i get it they should look into what's going to maximize the players that showed something but wouldn't it mean to build around that player if they did that , i don't think coby is the one.
I think (hope) the front office is waiting to see what they get for Lavine, Vooch and maybe Zo if/when they trade them. Then they'll reassess the roster fit at the end of the year.
I see the issue with Coby is that he’s not a point guard. When Ayo and Coby are in the backcourt, often Coby tries to take the ball into the tap trees and usually turns it over. The spacing of the floor is poor with Coby at point. Josh Giddey has that skill set. When Giddey is in, the spacing is good, the passing is crisp, the ball moves quickly around the half-court. Giddey can score or pass but he’s an infinitely better passer than Coby and maybe less of a divide with Ayo. The only viable backcourts are Giddey/Ayo or Giddey/Lavine with Levine at point when Giddey is out. Sadly, with the team they have now, there’s really no significant role for Coby. Guys like Matos/Phillips and THT can better take those minutes. If they can’t trade Zach or Vuch, they should trade Coby to a team where he can catch and shoot. He’d probably work well on the Celtics.
It’s like the demar/vucevic situation again but now with coby white and josh giddey where both players need to be primarily ball handlers to get the most out of them it’s a issue that hopefully the bulls can figure out real soon💯
I think the problem with Coby White is his role on the team has changed every year. Most times before the season even starts. They want him to be something he’s not and Coby is not a Swiss Army knife type player
What pissed me off as a bulls fan the most is the front office / management is incompetent & clueless on how to win in everything from draft scouting to trading and free agency signing
I believe what's possibly holding Zach LaVine's trade back is that trade kicker in Zach LaVine's contract. Because we all know how much Jerry Reinsdorf & the Reinsdorf family hate having to spend money. And if Zach LaVine is traded the Reinsdorfs are gonna have to pay.
Ayo and Coby should be the starting backcourt. They complement each other and fit. Giddey doesn't really fit if you are moving on from Zach and Vooch. Matas is probably going to be really good. Now they need to figure out the center and other forward position.
Coby is taking a lot of those unnecessary 3's himself. One of the Bulls biggest issues is the lack of drives so to have a guy that was driving well last year step away from that to shoot more 3's is crazy.
I find it ironic that some are giving Coby a pass because 'he's being asked to play a different role', etc, whereas Giddey played last season with OKC in a different role and people criticised him for his season. Double standards anyone?
No one is giving him a pass because of playing a different role they’re realizing that does have an impact. Same as Giddey not necessarily having the type of style that fits him best. No double standard just because it doesn’t speak glowingly about your guy. Don’t be so reactive. Two things can be true at the same time
Coby is definitely more comfortable in the half court from last season it will take him a while to get up to his standard...we need to be patient...also about yesterday's episode about G league success...I think yall forgot about DANNY green on NBA Central.
I think roster construction has never been less relevant than it is now in the NBA. Yes there's still a need to find players that can make up for the shortcomings of others but skillsets from one player to the next are about as indistinguishable as they've ever been. I can't blame that for Cobys struggles, I still think he plays too fast and out of control most of the time. Too much dribbling and a scrorers mentality that the next shot will go in hasnt served him well. Its one thing when you change up your game offensively but when you live by the 3, you die by the 3. We'd hate on Demars inability to be a consistently effective 3 point shooter but what he did do was always find a way to score. I havent seen that in Cobys game yet, there is little self awareness.
If you think roster construction is less important now IDK what league you're watching it's actually more important than ever. I think you came in with a predetermined thought on Coby's game because more you second paragraph isn't what's happening in regards to Coby at all
@ChiBullsCentral agree to disagree on roster construction being what's impacting Cobys game. I think we have a better team this year than last with more potential and the opportunity to initiate a dynamic offense that we couldn't the past few years. Ball movement, 3 point shooting and pace have all been positive signs. We've seen small sample sizes of it but it hasn't been consistent. To say it's roster construction isn't accurate, they are capable of playing better. I look at Coby and see a player trending in the opposite direction. The ball sticks, he is making bad reads and the offense looks worse with him in the game. Yes it's the eye test and my opinion but if you want to look at stats, he's playing less minutes than last year, shooting worse and committing a career high in TOs.
That isn’t the aspect of roster construction I’m talking about. Yes we have talent but how that talent fits together is a huge piece of roster construction. We’ve seen teams fail with star level talent of the pieces don’t fit together well. Eye test also matters in HOW those things are getting done. Coby is committing more turnovers less but that’s also because he’s getting the ball with less time to make a division and usually after the offense has stalled out on getting an open shot leading him to taking one to two dribbles and forcing it up. Still absolutely part is on him. But that’s where the rhythm of being more ball dominate matters.
@ChiBullsCentral I don't know what solution is on how to unlock Coby White's game but I think we can both agree that keeping Jevon Carter on the bench is the key
Nnaji is apparently absolutely terrible to the point where they play a 3 years past retirement DeAndre Jordan over him for good reason. 8 mil isn't a lot, but 3 more years of an unplayable guy is pretty bad. Zach's been good this year, good enough to where the bulls have enough negotiating power to not have to take Nnaji imo.
Good points. Denver may hold more value just depending on the market for Zach and if they have the best offer. We’ll see closer tot he deadline. Great points.
Kings- Lavine, Collins, 1x 1st pick from bulls and 2x 2nd pick from bulls Bulls- Fox and Huerter Jazz- Lonzo, Lyles, McLaughlin and 1x 1st pick from bulls
AKME paid a bunch of lip service to but did not buy in to Coby as the lead playmaker. Bringing in Giddey and moving him off ball shook him. He’ll get back there eventually. He is just filling holes in his game right now, it’s gonna look ugly for a bit but I believe in his ability to grow
He have to adjust real good players adjust yes he's better playing on ball than off but it don't excuse he's inconsistenties always been there even when he was ball dominant he was inconsistent this is what Coby White is and at this point It is what it is. Facts and Blessings C Red Nation 🙏🏿✊🏿💪🏿💯
AK & Marc Eversley continuosly drafting who they think is the Best Player Available instead of players of need ain't helping the Bulls get better either.
I rather have Cobe come off the bench behind Zo and let Cobe do his thang in the 4th quarters over Zo we need his offense more in the 4th cuz thats where we struggle in games is to close out games offensively
They should've never got Giddey. Keeping Coby at the point, Start Ayo at 2 and Lavine at the 3. You can't change a guys role like this and expect him to play better. Coby had his college success playing pg, he has been saying since day one when he was drafted, he wanted the point. This organization took 4yrs to give him the spot, which turned out to be his best year, only to take it away from him this year. It's stupid!
He’s been playing out of control, no basketball IQ at all.. not even being aggressive like he should. Idk what’s going on but hoping he bounce bck soon.
Coby has to be the person with the ball with volume shots to play his best however he isn't that good you want that to be your end result and he just isn't good outside of that in the slightest. I would rather they accept he is bad and see if anyone else wants the dead weight even though I'm sure he is a lovely player, he just isn't that good sadly unless he can get his shit rolling faster with a better warmup routine for a game
Execpt that's not accurate. Coby being ball dominate the teams assist rate went up and he still creates for others. Volume shots doesn't mean you don't still create for others.
@ChiBullsCentral that's alright to highlight, but my intention and belief is he isn't that amazing at the other things, and that he needs like 15-20 shots in a game for his efficiency to ever be good. Coby starts shooting 3/10 most games and then starts to hit a shot, so he needs a massive portion of shots. Surely there is something in his warm up they need to change like mini scrimmage or something with subs more and reduced minutes if it tires him but as he is he only feels useful if you plan to have him shoot 15 plus shots a game. I'll take him shooting 25 shots in a game over him taking 10 ATM, but his other weaknesses feel not worth making him that featured
Bulls need to do what's right. Move off these young guys who at best will be great role players for a young stud. Denver is handing MPJ away and the Bulls should figure out what package they want for that. AK messed up pairing DeMar with Zach and Vuc, but MPJ fits perfectly.
As a bulls fan I were never sold on coby white, management refused to trade players for picks when their value is high
there is not enough off ball movement to maximise Giddeys skill set... like night and day between OKC and Bulls
@ yea it is sad. I bet if we do trade Zach this season, he will improve. I think finding his shot in this new bulls play has been troubling to him.
@ Hey!!! He played really well today.
@@WilliamOgden-n1k yea he balled out yesterday. It does seem he needs the ball
Is there any decent defenders in gleague?
He’s battling ankle and groin Injuries, all while being just a spot up shooter again…. This is the fingers pointing at BD as a coach AGAIN. Kinda seems like the FO put themselves in a position where they’re going to have to choose between Coby or Giddy in the off-season.
haize, i think that's exactly what it is, exactly what you said. Not out of the question to trade him before his value bottoms out.

This is Coby tho he goes through long slumps true bulls fans know this he’ll be fine 👍🏻
Great research Haize 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Nah this is more than the stretches before brother. I hope you're right but a big part of this stretch is how he's being used on offense
Ayo and Coby should be the starting backcourt. They complement each other and fit. Giddey doesn't really fit if you are moving on from Zach and Vooch. Matas is probably going to be really good. Now they need to figure out the center and other forward position.

Coby is getting scored on just like Josh. You have to really watch the whole games
He's actually not i literally went over the numbers. He's mot getting scored on nearly at the amount Giddey is even with similar mins played
I rather have Cobe come off the bench behind Zo and let Cobe do his thang in the 4th quarters over Zo we need his offense more in the 4th cuz thats where we struggle in games is to close out games offensively
He's become a chucker ..looks like he feels he should score 20 no matter what vs make best basketball play
Agreed. He needs to completely ignore personal stats and just play to a standard that contributes to his team winning games.
My god the guy broke down! The issue and dumb people still say dumb shit…. Smh
