    I bought a dozen various colors of seam rippers just like your blue ones, on Amazon for about $6/dozen or so, I put a couple in Christmas gift boxes for sewing friends. You can buy a multi-pack of snips also (Penta Angel snips) for between $7-$10. Depending on the seller, you can buy approx. 50 or 100 wonder-type clips on eBay for under $10. Same with measuring tapes and sewing machine needles on Amazon. If you have friends that sew, a box of misc. sewing items like these make great gifts during the holidays. Love your videos! ✂🪡🧵

    I think a beginner needs:scissors, straight pins and safety pins, chalk (Dollar Tree chalk!), tape measure and yardstick, scotch tape.

      Excellent suggestions! Thank you!

      Why scotch tape. The dollar tree has the sewing chalk!! Mental noted.

      @@rachelhobart573 I use tape when I adjust my patterns, for example, too lengthen them.

    One tool I use often is tweezers. They're great for pulling out basting stitches and also threads from unpicked areas. The cheapo tweezers work fine. Have a great New Year Brittany! Love your videos!

    Love it! Great list. My top tools are the same with 1 addition. I use a ceramic bowl or tray to collect smaller items such as presser feet, bobbins, pins, clips, etc. Kind of a project catch all that keeps everything together since I sew at the kitchen table and do not yet have a dedicated sewing set up.

    Happy New Year Brittney! My top 5 sewing tools are: 1. Measuring tool(s), tape measure, designer measure with curve on one end, quilters measure 2. seam ripper 3. pins, particularly quilters pins but also glass-head pins for fine gauge fabrics like silks. I find that the quilters' pins being a heavier gauge wire can pierce thick fabrics and/or layers without bending. 4. scissors 5. iron. Pressing IS sewing.
    Just wondering about your comment about not including a measuring implement in your top five. How do you deal with putting the pattern on grain when laying it out on the fabric? I realize that some schools of thought say that putting certain pattern pieces on grain (like blouses, tops, skirts) isn't necessary, but when it comes to pants, if the pattern isn't laid out on the grain of the fabric, the legs might be twisted when cut.
    For me, (an old sewist at this point) I find that establishing the grain for the pattern pieces doesn't take long, and ensures that the pieces are cut on the straight of grain.

    I've noticed that you can use a rotary cutter on the folding banquet table (from Costco or others) without mat. The scratches are almost invisible and the surface is large and at a good height. Cutting mat are expensive, never fit the table, and get damaged/dirty very quickly especially the big clear ones.

    • @brittanyjjonestv
      @brittanyjjonestv  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is awesome feedback about those tables! I hope someone tries this because you’re right, mats are pricey!❤ thanks you watching!

    Great video, Brittany! My top 5 are the same as yours, although I also have paper cutting scissors. I appreciate your emphasizing to beginners that it's not necessary to buy everything at once-but as someone who has been sewing for many years-ya gotta have multiples.😁😁

    I was scared to have magnets around my sewing room because I have a computerized machine. Maybe it's okay to use? What do you think Brittney? She'd I get the magnets cushion for the pins?
