I'm a 53 yr old woman and thanks to you and these videos I am successfully installing my own vinyl flooring. I can't thank you enough for your VERY helpful videos. Seriously, THANK YOU and GOD BLESS YOU!!
I was just sitting here racking my mind over how I was going to lay my last row against the wall under the trim on a doorway. I've spent about an hour trying to get just this one piece set. I never thought to trim the locking mechanism and glue. Thank you so much! God bless.
Thank you so much! I was ready to make a pile in my backyard and burn all of this laminate had I not found your video. I sincerely thank you.. and so does my wife lol. We decided to take this project on and we were about to quit when I found your channel. Keep sharing your knowledge.
You are by far the person that I have came to get all of the tips and tricks on how to lay laminate floors. You are unbelievable, and have saved my butt more than once.
Just watched a dozen ‘how to work the end row doorjamb’ vids. YOURS answered all my questions, told me exactly what I needed to know, so HELPFUL. The other vids can be planed and glued to the trash heap compared to this gem of instructional tips.
I’m fascinated with your videos & tips! I’ve been installing fitted kitchens for over 20 years & occasionally get asked to install laminate while I’m there. The tips & tricks I’ve picked up from you since watching these videos over the ‘lockdown period’ have amazed me. I’ll certainly be using all of them from now on....no doubt saving me plenty of valuable time.
Exactly what I was looking for. I'm a high-end carpenter and as old as the hills. Doing my own place. Tips like yours should be paid for! I tell all my apprentices they will give me $50.00 a week for the easter eggs and easy outs for the duration of the job. I get the headlight stare....after the first couple lessons I've a couple offers. Funny as hell. You are a pro my friend!!! Subscribing and bookmarking
Plane and glue??!! Thanks for this video! After struggling with 4 bedrooms installing 1/2” thick premium laminate I will now use this on the fist floor coming up soon. Why did I not find this TH-cam channel before?! God bless!
Thank you for this video!!! Spent so much time trying all the things that came to my mind and nothing worked! This video helped me in 3 minutes. Honestly felt like crying when I managed to fit it in. Thanks once again
You have NO idea how much time you have saved me, and how many gray hairs you have prevented me from having. I am starting a project in a friend's kitchen and her refrigerator is in an alcove or lack of a better way of describing it. To make a long story not so long, I was having nightmares trying to figure out how to install her AquaGuard flooring in that alcove because of the refrigerator cherry wood end panel on either side attached to the cabinets above. Thank you SO MUCH!! Keep up the amazing videos and workmanship! The Pride and attention shows.
Your videos have saved my butt this week while doing a laminate floor installation. It's the first time I have attempted this, and while a 10x12 room took me all day, I've had to rewatch a couple of videos for review. Thank you!!
i watched all three video's , man your a real Tradesman , very well done , I'm a Tradi as well , my Profession is in Roofing in Australia , 34 years , so anyway i now have a very good and clear understanding of how to install a Floating Floor thanks to your well Documented Videos , thumbs up Man .
I'm putting in floors at my mother inlaws and I was trying to force the boards in without removing that lip along the edge. You've seriously saved me HOURS of headache. Much appreciated!
I have messed up so many pieces of laminate trying to figure this out. I suck at measuring and marking properly. I could not figure out how to get it under my closet door jam. Last room I cut so much off the molding wouldn’t cover my mistakes. Now I’m going to go back and fix the other room when I’m finished this one. Thank you so much. You’re a time and money saver. And a whole lotta cursing next time I do a laminate floor and I have 7 more rooms to do😀
I just spent 2 HOURS using a chisel and dremel to surgically removed door trim for the laminate to go in (the 30degree angle wasn't possible!) And then when I realized I had to do this again 2 rows later... Well - thank goodness I found your video just now! I'll give it a shot!
I am attempting to lay laminate flooring in my house. I have always did everything. This is the first time for laminate. Your videos have gave me the confidence to try it myself. Thanks.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! I have fought with angle angle flooring until I finally thought I had it down. Then came the doorway leading into the hall. I was ready to tear it all up and throw it away until watching this video. My problems are solved and you are awesome!
Spent ages looking for a video that shows how to get this sorted the easy way. Great stuff been racking my brain how to do this with the boards going down the room from the door. Thanks
Thanks for teaching us. Just a tip. New HD vinyl plank has small female groove, plane is too big. I used a sharp chisel to reduce female edge. Used cheap duct tape, big mistake. Use white glue that is easier to see. Keep your great videos coming.
Ohhh man thank you very much!! This is the one that I’m trying to search in the internet. You are one of the best in this craftsmanship. Thank you again so much. Please more videos👍😊
OMGosh man finally, I watched half a dozen other videos with no luck before I found your video that describes how to fit the last raw, Thank you man! Liked and subscribed.
Its amazing, I watched a bunch of your stuff before I started this project, and after it took me 3 hours to plot my room, board spacings, planning for vents, doorways, closets, and set up the first row, I'm watching it all over again just because I want it perfect. Thanks for your uploads, very helpful.
Very good video. I am a flooring installer of 30+ years and am always researching on the internet. I ran across your video and found it to be very well made and simple to follow the instructions. I use this technique often and it is not a well known technique. It really goes back to the old installation method, when laminate first came out. There are very few installers out there with this knowledge.
No problem at all. I am working on some things to help flooring installers on the internet and was wondering how long you have been doing videos, how is it going for you with youtube, does this channel create any business for you, and if you have any ideas that may be of help to flooring installers on the internet.
Thank you so much for this tip! I used it and it worked better than expected. The last floor I installed I ended up removing the whole door casing. What a pain and a lot of extra work. Keep em coming
God bless you, Joe!! I've been looking for this solution all day. Will get the planer tomorrow and start again around those door jams. I have quite a few to do throughout the house with all the doorways and closets. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about installing laminate flooring. I've watched a lot of videos on TH-cam and yours are by far the best!!
Thanks! Instructions tell you not to use glue. But obviously, that is exactly what you need to do in the right situation. I was a little surprised that you had to glue so many planks just to get the door jam piece in.
Great tips and technique here. I will be doing my first 12 X 12 room soon and am devouring videos to cover all the potential pitfalls. This helps and so does the island music vibe. Man, I miss the the Caribbean.
Watched all your videos prior to installing my first laminate floor. Followed your directions, screws not wedges or shims, layout prior to start, etc. floor came put perfect. Had to refer to videos a few times but very helpful, thanks......
I wished I'd come across this 2 weeks ago. I actually pulled my door jamb off because I got soo frustrated! But, l still have a small closet area to do and this will save me all kinds of grief! Thank you for the video!
Wasn't sure I could do an installation, till I saw your advice here. A lot of people use a wood strip to cover the expansion gap in the UK, but this is so much better and you make it look easy! Thank you.
Thanks so much.......I had the whole bedroom done and I got to the closet and door jams and have been cutting and fighting it for hours. Your advice will work great.
I want to thank you so much for your straight talk.. ( example) not saying a million other things that take away from the point that needs to be understood. And also for sharing your professional advice with everyone. I can't thank you enough for taking the time out to do these videos. May you always be successful in what you do Joel..
The video was very helpful. I have been working with laminate floors for a long time and I always had difficulty with closets and door jams in hallways with multiple doorways. I had always thought of cutting and gluing but what unsure. Great Video!!!
I just completed my first laminate plank flooring in a house I just purchased. About 1500 sq feet job. About 75% of the whole house. Many transitions into rooms, an island in the kitchen, a hallway and 3 bathrooms. These videos were a great help. They saved me many times and saved many trial and error attempts. Thanks you very much for all of your tips. By the way, it turned out great. You are the man.
Your video on installation laminate in tight places was so comforting to watch. I am a novice and first timer. I WILL DEFINITELY use your tips. THANKS SO MUCH. I just finished a master bath install and totally got your shared concerns with the last plank and door jambs fit issues. Now I need to move on the the bigger install of living, dining room and kitchen. ;)
Best flooring video I've seen. I had come up with the glue thing myself but I was not sure it was the way to go. By the way don't use the thicker construction glue, you will never get the boards close together. I've heard... And this thing about laying a board on top to scribe with it only works with parallel or thereabout lines. Not say a doorway in an angled wall. It would have saved me a lot of tinkering If id seen this video before I started!
I watched this guy's videos a couple of times on my no-transition laminate install. I went and got that exact little plane from Menards after I tried using a blade on a few boards and almost got a blister from how much pressure I was exerting. The plane makes a huge difference. I also used small nails on my first row to keep it in place to avoid adding quarter round (drill small hole first). The cheater board helps with the first and final rows. Great tutorials and lots of helpful tips.
Saved me so much trouble and inspired confidence. Thanks! Oh, and saved me some pieces that I thought I ruined because the lip that you planed off, just broke off on mine. I thought it was unusable.
Thank you so much! Doing laminate for the first time and was having some real problems with the last row and the door. I was about to call the entire thing quits but your video saved the day!
Excellent . I am just starting my job and have been pondering how to deal with the situations that you have just shown. Thank you for taking the time to present this. Ken
Your series are videos are AMAZING! I’m tackling the installation of a basement with a bedroom and hallway. I’ve watched your videos over and over and then come back again when I’m doing a specific technique.
Wish I had found this video before I spent much of the day yesterday fighting my new kitchen floor and wasting pieces. I will use this technique today to finish under two adjacent doorways for pantry and garage in my kitchen. Thanks!
So thank you very much for this lesson. I am installing a laminate floor in the majority of my home to get it ready to sell. I was falling into the problem to where I could not get the floor into some tight areas due to the way you have to install laminate. the whole angle into the lip and snaps down thing. So unlike installing a wood flooring, it is much harder to get around stuff. So to get around this I pretty much took out the door molding and jams for both the broom closet and pantry in the kitchen area. This morning while I was looking at another area that I will have to do; which is the door area going from the kitchen to the living room; I was thinking I really do not want to take this apart and started looking on youtube for another solution, and found it, thanks to your channel. Thank you very much; lucky for me I would have to take off the molding and replace it anyway in those areas due to the molding now being too high and leaving a pretty big gap so the work that had to be done anyway.
I'm doing a laminate floor in my daughter's room. I'm at the part where I have less than the width of a plank at the closet and wall. I really wasn't worried about it though. That's because I knew extraordinary people like yourself have already done clear concise videos on TH-cam that walk me though the problem and solution. Thank you. Ill let you know how it goes.
I need to buy a planner now lol. I've done about 5 laminate jobs and I feel I'm starting to get the hang of it but watching your tutorials I'm learning so many great skills from you. Thank you bro. Definitely subscribing.
I'm installing laminate right now...never thought of the planer and glue. I don't have existing trim that I can't remove, so I haven't needed to be that precise plus the the base molding I'll install is pretty forgiving. Sure see the value of the planer thanks! I'm watching all your vids and they are great! Thanks again!
Excellent videos! Just completed a challenging (for me) first laminate flooring project that included a lavatory with 45 deg. doorway. Would not have been able to do it without first watching your videos. I one about planing down the locking tab and using wood glue was the best. Great job! Thank you.
Thank you man. You're the first I found on the internet showing exactly what I needed to know about shaving of the rim and gluing, there where necessary. I use the EXACT same laminate brand. This also explains why the rim comes of so easily, even when touching when your hands. With cheaper laminate the rim didn't come off so easily, so I first thought I really bought crap laminate and overpaid a lot, even if the top part is much nicer. I was really confused. Have a great 2021.
Joe, another excellent videos! I am doing my first laminate floor and this video allow me to complete a very challenging portion of the project. It took me hours to complete one side of installing the laminate around the door jam but took me minutes to complete the other side after watching your video. Planing down the locking edge and using wood glue was very helpful. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much for your very helpful tips and clear instructions. Your video is easy to follow and well-timed with your explanation. I wish every DYI was this straightforward.
Finally , someone who knows how to really do these trades ! And a Brother in Christ also ! I have been a tile setter for 30 years along with wood , laminate flooring and a Union Carpenter . You are the only one l trust to see the vinyl flooring stuff . I didn't do much vinyl in my career except for slip sheets . Thank you so much ! I have to turn off other how to videos within a minute because they just don't know what they are doing !
Thank you! Your very descript with your instruction. Great techniques. I was wondering why you glued two seems (rows) instead of one. It looked like you could have still clicked the row without the notch and just glue the row with the notch. Maybe I misunderstood or missed something. Thanks again, you’ve really helped me up my game and I use your techniques at work. One job I found out the hard way (before watching your videos) the importance of thresholds in doorways 36” and under with most manufacturers. Had to go back and cut them in later. No more problems now. Your experience and expertise are invaluable.
Thank you for sharing your expertise; first time we are doing this; having to repair due to a leaky frig, and onlyhad 1 box left, so not any room for mistakes! You are a life saver!
Man, you make that look so easy! I'm getting ready to do my first job using wood laminate flooring (have done 1 VPF install), so I'm after all the help I can get. Thank you very much and may God bless you and yours.
Thanks Joel! Just what I need. I installed a floating floor a few years ago and would have saved myself a lot of trouble and ruined material had this video been around then.
Great tip. Im sure to use it on my current 16 m sq kitchen project using 12mm laminate. Im hoping to leave my moulded base board in place. thank you so much
I'm a 53 yr old woman and thanks to you and these videos I am successfully installing my own vinyl flooring. I can't thank you enough for your VERY helpful videos. Seriously, THANK YOU and GOD BLESS YOU!!

Haha!!! Dont know about that.....

Wonderful explanation of a common problem experienced by laminate installers. Thanks bro!! U da man!!!
You're doing God's work with these videos. They've answered all of my questions.
Plane and glue??!! Thanks for this video! After struggling with 4 bedrooms installing 1/2” thick premium laminate I will now use this on the fist floor coming up soon. Why did I not find this TH-cam channel before?! God bless!
First video I've found addressing the type of flooring that connects at an angle. Thank You!

Have struggled with laminate in the past this will make life easier on my next project
You have NO idea how much time you have saved me, and how many gray hairs you have prevented me from having. I wish I saw this two days ago!! We have been struggling so much with our tight u-shaped kitchen area. This will help so much! You deserve a bonus!
And a whole lotta cursing next time I do a laminate floor and I have 7 more rooms to do😀
Glad to help!
I just spent 2 HOURS using a chisel and dremel to surgically removed door trim for the laminate to go in (the 30degree angle wasn't possible!)
And then when I realized I had to do this again 2 rows later...
Well - thank goodness I found your video just now!
I'll give it a shot!

Small hallway with 8 doors and open closet. First time doing this, may not be the last thanks to this video!

+l34rn25 thank you!
Thanks Joe. For a beginner like me, there were a bunch of tips in this video that I would never have thought of, and saved me a ton of headache. 👍

Yep my thoughts exactly been fitting since the big boom in laminate flooring clamping and glueing the bad old day lol
Thank you so much for this tip! I used it and it worked better than expected. The last floor I installed I ended up removing the whole door casing. What a pain and a lot of extra work. Keep em coming
Thank you very pleased you showed me the mechanic's taking the female lump off works a treat on walls and door jams.
Glad it helped
Excellent, your so knowledgeable and have such knowledge. Husband and I are doing a small house and you’ve given us some good advice, THANK YOU
Thank you for posting
God bless you, Joe!! I've been looking for this solution all day. Will get the planer tomorrow and start again around those door jams. I have quite a few to do throughout the house with all the doorways and closets. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about installing laminate flooring. I've watched a lot of videos on TH-cam and yours are by far the best!!
Thanks! Instructions tell you not to use glue. But obviously, that is exactly what you need to do in the right situation. I was a little surprised that you had to glue so many planks just to get the door jam piece in.
It was mainly showing that you can go out farther if needed.
Love the slide under installed tile part
Great tips and technique here. I will be doing my first 12 X 12 room soon and am devouring videos to cover all the potential pitfalls. This helps and so does the island music vibe. Man, I miss the the Caribbean.
Sounds great!
Watched all your videos prior to installing my first laminate floor. Followed your directions, screws not wedges or shims, layout prior to start, etc. floor came put perfect. Had to refer to videos a few times but very helpful, thanks......

Used this technique last night for a closet and doorjamb, worked like a charm, thanks.

I really appreciate your flooring videos. I'm doing flooring install at home and refer to these videos a LOT!
Glad to help!
Saved me so much trouble and inspired confidence. Thanks! Oh, and saved me some pieces that I thought I ruined because the lip that you planed off, just broke off on mine. I thought it was unusable.
Thanks for sharing that!
I had the exact situation and your video was the ONLY one I could find that explained it with perfect camera work. Thank you and God bless you.
This is my first laminate installation of my bedroom. Your video provides great info my me to install my closet, doors and door way. Thank you. Jane
Glad to help Jane!
You are one of a kind. Thank you for helping so many of us desperate here 👍🏼😅✅

Thats great Erick! thx for the commemt.
Thanks Timothy!
Thank-you, thank-you for this video!! You just saved me hours of work showing how to do this!!
Glad to help
Wonderful video. To the point and excellent visuals and explanations. Thanks for sharing!
thanks for the valuable tip, I've been putting laminate in this crappy rental, the information from you has been great. Thanks again!
Any time!
Thank you soo much, buddy. My prayers to you too, and to yours family.
Glad I could help
Joe, another excellent videos! I am doing my first laminate floor and this video allow me to complete a very challenging portion of the project. It took me hours to complete one side of installing the laminate around the door jam but took me minutes to complete the other side after watching your video. Planing down the locking edge and using wood glue was very helpful. Thank you very much.
Very nice videos. I watched a few of yours about vinyl flooring install. Thorough explanations, good camera work, helpful hints. Thank you very much.
You're welcome!
This was great, just what I needed to tackle a really difficult doorway. Thanks for posting wih good visuals.
You are welcome!
Thank you very much I really appreciate your response
2 years later and still saving marriages! Thanks brother.
Thanks
Awesome vid, the tip about sliding the plank and and along solved a challenging doorway

Great Video. It's always the weird areas, and tight corners that are a struggle. Your tips will be a big help. Thanks for sharing!
Can't wait to try it! Was pulling my hair out trying to get the plank around the door!
Thanks Joel! Just what I need. I installed a floating floor a few years ago and would have saved myself a lot of trouble and ruined material had this video been around then.
Thx Rina!
Great tip. Im sure to use it on my current 16 m sq kitchen project using 12mm laminate. Im hoping to leave my moulded base board in place. thank you so much

Thanks for the great tip Joel ! I couldn't pull the adjacent planks out. So I used a small, razor sharp, chisel to shave the bead off. Thanks again!
