VW T4 CAMPERVAN PROJECT PT 1 .......I bought a new van to convert !

- in this one we have bought a vw t4 van with no mot.
this project will be a full camper build after doing all the welding and paint work..
the outcome should be a nice surf bus that can also carry my trials bikes in style !!!

Had a mk 3 transit hand painted by a mate who used Johnson's paint he used a very good quality and very old brush brush older the better he said , and he also used a 1 in 4 thinner he also warmed the paint up in a pan of hot water he kept the paint warm and his technique was to randomly brush the first and in places the second coat on very thinly making sure to not go in same direction then on final coat he layed it on in one direction and believe me you couldn't see the brush strokes it was amazing it took 2 days to paint but totally worth it ,you can't beet Johnson's paint for a DIY car paint
I just spit my coffee out when you showed us your paint gun!
I'm sure I'll be able to get some sort of good finish from it 🤞

Cracking job! I've not seen a van that rotten for a while. I used to see a lot of rotten vehicles like this when I lived in the IOM. I guess it is all the salt in the air. This van must have spent most of it's life on the coast. Well done for saving it. A lot of T4 vans are getting broken for parts now when many could be saved.
Thanks it was close to ending up in the scrap yard I must admit I ran out of patience a few times

Looks great, I was a bit concerned about how you just went on with the top coat on the bare metal and the surrounding paint work without any primer? The finish looks really flat for 'brushing' , as for 'FLYS' they like a bit of 'solvent abuse' like the rest of us! Cheers dx
Don't need to use primer it's metal anti rust paint just paint over the sanded down surface for adhesion 👍
I like the "Rust-easy" sticker on the back, most appropriate. Get yourself a Vivaro. Far better engines, cheaper spares, more reliable, cheaper to buy and NO RUST. If you go post 07, no cambelt. A much much better van. Hand painting and a black roof...you should stick to bikes mate.
a vivaro seriously ? You Couldn't of picked a worse van they were horrific for faults belt failures fuel injectors going faulty and seizing in the engine due to water ingress from the scuttle panel not to mention the cheese gearboxes that go on them no chance I'll stick with what I know VW
@@fozinwozz9738 ..and that is why they are the most popular van in the UK and the Trafic the most popular van in Europe for the past 20 years. You have to remember the commercial market is not interested in image, they buy purely on running costs. The most important part of that is reliability, since breakdowns and downtime are by far the biggest losses. Before I bought mine I spoke to my friend who runs a fleet of vans, mainly Vivaros and he said he changed from VWs and Fords 15 years ago and had no reason to go back. Another guy I met ran a taxi company in Hamburg who had changed from Merc 200s to Renault Lagunas for the same reason. I have had my Vivaro 8 years with none of the faults you describe. So stick with your overpriced rustbuckets..that you know.
Looks great. What's the colour called and whats the drying time 🙂
Colour is Porsche n4 it has to be made it's not an on the shelf colour drying time depends on how thick you do the coats usually couple of hours 👍

Hey, what was a end price for repairs? Have one T4 pretty same, but with out a hole in floor.
You mean the welding etc ? I did it myself it would if cost a fortune if I'd payed for it probably would if had to scrap it
