Skijoring is a treat for dog lovers and the sport is growing

The Nordic sport of skijoring involves tethering a cross-country skier to one or more dogs, creating an exhilarating experience for both humans and their beloved canine companions.

The problem is, is that provincial parks in most areas that offer cross country skiing don’t allow dogs. There has been some parks such as arrowhead that have started including dedicated tracks, but the problem is is that there’s not a lot of places to actually enjoy the sport

In the early 1980's my energetic dalmatian went cross country skiing dragging her leash from collar( the signs said leashed, not holding) and one day I was so tired didn't know I could make it to the other side of park where car was parked. I called Libby and took the leash telling her to go to the car and she took off at a good pace, slowing for curves. Fellow skiers said I was cheating. Years later discovered I have Myasthenia Gravis and those memories of supported skiing are much more precious.

Bike joring is also available for those interested. Beware though, dogs in heavily trafficked areas can lose focus easily. Brakes.
