My father who recently passed away was a turret gunner on the avenger. He saw action off the coast of Africa and Nova Scotia then ended up in the Pacific in the Solomon Islands and Okinawa. His squadron earned two Presidential citations which he never spoke of.
@@aviationavenue2261 Yes he was. I remember a few years back he had a offer to fly in an Avenger and he told me" oh no I have flown enough". I think it was because he and his crew ditched into the Pacific where they lost the radioman . He later named my brother after him.
