Hubert Cumberdale that’s probably gonna be Animal Crossing as much as I hate to admit it (nothing against AC, just want FF7 to do as good as possible lol)
I was only a teenager when I first played FF7. Aerith's death was the first time i ever dealt with losing someone I cared about. Sounds weird since it's just a video game but it hit me really, really hard.
I hope they capture Aerith's quirky nature as well as her insightful intelligence. One thing I loved about Aerith was that she was able to see through cloud almost immediately, and picked up on his faccade, but then proceeded to playfully look through him with her killer sense of humor.
@@KoKo-ry1xs No, she didn't. She noticed soon and very well differentiated between them. There was even a line in the game which could not be triggered through a bug that showed she knew Cloud was the "slower guy" in comparison to Zack. She knew which characteristics were his own. They even had a conscious bond later. Yet she wished for him to no longer be fragmented as he was during all of that.
@@KoKo-ry1xs Most of it comes from people who only want Cloud to be with Tifa (who he never really knew that much as a child, also because he thought her gang of buddies was stupid but she still was the girl next door he was crushing on and he still risked his life when he followed her to the mountains where the gang decided to leave her alone) when in reality all 3 have their special relationship. They are all relevant. Just like Rinoa in 8 also liked Seifer. But more complicated.
I kinda hope they develop her flaws honestly. She had them in the original, but they were never really explored in an attempt to endear her as swiftly as possible to the player so they keenly felt the surprise of her loss. It backfired with me, as I always had trouble connecting with her. If they played up the fact that bright cheerful Aerith oddly enough has very few friends in Midgar (which is the opposite you’d expect from an extrovert), and thus playing up her insecurities at being different more, that’s be cool. It’s kinda brushed on in the original, but not well explored. I also think they should play up what I call Aerith’s “selfless self centeredness” as both a charming quirk, but also a fatal flaw, that’d make her feel more like a real person I think. Aerith is a bit of a steamroller-she’s going to do what she wants regardless of what anyone else says, or regardless if anyone else is comfortable with it. She’s a very perceptive and intelligent person, who can innocently come off as insensitive because of this. Because she is a good person, she has the good of others at heart, but can pursue that good even if it means overlooking the consent of the person she’s trying to help-which is what I mean by “selflessly self centered.” She gonna do what she wants (for your benefit) even if you would prefer she didn’t. This is kinda what gets her killed, as I believe she in no way thought she was going to die in the Ancient City-she fully believed she could handle it on her own and would make it back just fine. She didn’t ask anyone else to go with her perhaps out of danger to them and innocent recklessness on her part-that they would want to go with her even with the danger wasn’t relevant enough for her to factor in. She never gave them the choice. Again, faults present in the original, but not emphasized. A lot of folks really love Aerith, so the idea that she should have flaws and be dimensional is anethema to them. But I think it would actually make her less an ideal static character, and more of a relatable person with more room for personal growth. At least, it might help me connect with her more as a person. It seems like they’re playing up some more difficult aspects of her history, so I have great optimism for her character (and others) in the remake.
Haha Cloud's cool persona slips like when Barret asks his age and he thought he meant rank! Caught him off guard and he was lost for words. Oops haha. So well done, love it. Can't wait to see more!
Why is Nojima being insecure about that perfect description of Cloud he gave? real OG ff7 fans know that cloud isnt your anime hero thats perfect. Cloud has always being this edgy and dorky character that has to forcibly handle awkward situations and acts more human than any other character in the game, thats why hes so unique. Praise Nojima for keeping Cloud intact. People who think Cloud was this cool anime hero are just fucking secondaries.
True,Cloud is an awkward, dorky, sweet person (who is also addicted to radical sports),who puts on the "persona" of a cool, nonchalant anime hero, people that think Cloud is just and "edgy emo hero" are missing out on a great, complex character

Don't get me wrong people. Nomura is a nice and professional person but Kitase is the person behind this the success of this remake. I can't forget his work in the original as director and scenario writer, and I'm sure won't miss it in this one.
Bravo guys, I just finished the game. I doubt the creators of the game will see this comment, but you not only fulfilled my expectations, but smashed them into a million pieces. I couldn’t have asked for a better game and I’ll be eagerly awaiting the next one as I replay this one over and over!
I am not a huge fan of all FFVII characters, Cait sith and Yuffie don't really interest me much, but I have to admit, with their main females, they did a spectacular job. I usually feel like each FF has a core squad, who are usually the people we meet early on, and then a few side characters whose stories are more tangentially related. For instance, FFIX has Zidane, Garnet, Vivi, and Steiner. So I am usually ok with the side characters being less important, but the main heroine should be amazing, and I feel like some have been a bit dull IMO, Yuna always bored me as a person and I found Rinoa to be a bit annoying, so the fact that FFVII hit gold not once, but twice is just amazing to me. (btw, main FF squad is obviously Cloud, Tifa, Barrett, and Aerith).
As an OG fan, I am incredibly impressed by the thoughtfulness and effort that went into this game. I think it really comes through. Congratulations to the team!
Fans of other games: what good graphics, excellent combat system ... Fans FF: hmm, what a deep depressive character, I would like to see the whole spectrum of his qualities of his ego.
I really appreciate the fact that we have new elements added to the story, because it'll really freshen the experience instead of simply reinvoking it. Always thought that, while I really want FFVIIR to be as close to the original as possible, it'd be cool for it to show me something that I couldn't have experienced myself. Like interactions, or events that could've expanded more on the already huge world of FFVII. Grateful that Nojima-san is worried about it, but I sure hope that people will trust him in regards to the new scenario bits. As for the characters themselves, there's much more nuance to them, that's for sure. They still are, at their core, the characters that we remember and that's apparent from the gameplay footage we've seen. Feel like fleshing them out is not a problem, but a welcome addition too, like the asshole remark of Cloud to Barret, when he said "Get help" -- that highlighted that Cloud is indeed stoic, but he also seems to have much more ocassions to express his practical outlook(makes for a good comedy, when there's a lot of fantastical stuff going on, and a guy infused with Mako just casually calls out someone fairly normal for being hysteric).
I love how a lot of people in the comments, and the creators, are just as aware that Cloud is a dork trying to be cool and not always succeeding in his attempts. Makes me feel verified as a Cloud fan lol. Hard to believe we're just over two weeks away from the remake!!
I like how Cloud’s character is faithfully portrayed in the remake. But I also learned to appreciate Cloud’s character in AC and in other games that show Cloud post FF7. Cloud’s depression post FF7 only adds value to his character, he didn’t have much time to mourn his friends’ death and deal with his identity issues, or PTSD due to experimentation and events that happened in the storyline of FF7 due to meteor, so him breaking down afterwards was pretty much obvious and realistic (no one would be able to stay happy after something like that)...it pissed me off how some of the “fans” complain about Cloud going through depression and call it just an “emo” phase, a lot of young people like me went through depression and PTSD due to tragic or extremely unpleasant/difficult events in our lives...having Cloud face similar challenges is what makes him more human, like you can’t expect people to always face challenges without suffering in the process and be super calm/cool/confident/happy, some shit is beyond what you can handle. Seeing people dismiss something as serious as depression and calling it “emo” is so tacky and shows lacks of empathy. Yes Cloud is dorky and tries to act cool, but he is also shy person, who goes through hard times. He faced a lot of adversity, and can’t keep his cool facade at all times. Anyway, I really appreciate the effort the game developers are putting into the remake. Every detail is so well thought out and so much work and time is put into this projects . Unlike some of the remakes I’ve seen, it really shows that they care and respect the original, and are making this game not just for the profit. They really are listening to the fans, and making sure that both new and old fans will get to enjoy the experience of playing the remake.
Goddamn, every time a "new" track starts playing during these interviews, I get an immediate pang of nostalgia, chills, and just pure joy (Even tears) knowing this is a thing. It's happening. 2.5 Weeks away, this is a long awaited reunion.
Yuffie is the one character they could easily throw into this game as a cameo (would be a nice nod to the original rumor that went around back in the day about her being able to be gotten before leaving Mid)
I dont know if anyone on the team will ever see this but i just wanted to say that every scene youve shown so far all the interactions between characters all of them have teared me up its hard to express how important this game is to me without sounding a lil crazy but it really helped make me who i am and would say it was the biggest influence on me other than my parents... i didnt love 7 because of the turn based mechanics you can get that is so many other games... i loved the characters the world and the writing translation errors and all.. and i love the materia system those were my concerns for remake. We still have to wait and see what you e done with materia but everything else seems to be outstanding and i just want you to know i greatly appreciate all of you that are working so hard to remake and retell this story i love so much.. you are all hero's in my book.. 1st class all the way!!!!!
Ahhh im really glad that they're talking about how cloud is characterised slightly differently in the remake! I really love that they made him more blatantly awkward, and even in his body language you can tell he's quite anxious. It really fleshes him out more and makes sense for the wider story :D
@@LordEvrey yes!! I'm really happy it has a chance to shine through with this remake,, I feel like a lot of people purely remember cloud as his cocky persona he puts on
Clouds new direction makes perfect sense to me. Its really how I remember him. Someone who wanted to be more than what he ultimately is. Wanting people to see him as something he isnt. When he tells the crew on the airship in disc 2 the truth about his past. I related to his angst.
@@tintinthomas1674 I really enjoy seeing the behind the scenes and motivations of the developers. They are doing a fantastic job on this series for sure.
Having only played part one on what is to be a multi-part game Remake, all I can say this far is bravo. The game has definitely exceeded my expectations. The battles are exciting and never tiring, the characters true to their personalities, graphics and music are amazing, and stories so far has been captivating. This game is long and it’s only part one! I’m savouring every minute of it, main story line, sub plots, side quests and all! I’m enjoying the game and very much excited because there’s heaps and heaps to come!
I never played the original game, but - know I will buy it! The Remake brings me back into the fantastic world of video games, amazing characters, a story - I can´t put it in words. Thank you^^
When I first watched this I read around 13:00 that Tifa and Cloud will be sharing a room even though it's apparently just same building. Anyways, awesome video. Loving these and super hyped for release of this Part 1 ever since 2015 when it was first announced.

I think they were specifically talking about her background. I’m assuming the new stuff has to do with the time she was living in Icicle Inn with Ifalna and Gast.
I very sincerely thank you for making this game. Even though I didn't play the original and didn't have the nostalgic feels added to my experience, I had SO much fun playing. I knew the characters previously from playing Kingdom Hearts since my childhood, got attached to Cloud and Tifa and wanted to learn more, so I read about their story, played crisis core and cried my eyes out for Zack. And now I'm absolutely in love with the game. Can't wait for the next unknown journey.
Has it already been over 20 years since this came out on the original PlayStation? I remember the day the game came out was the same day I bought my PlayStation for the first time along with the game, strategy guide, and memory card. Good times. I remember as a kid, having to save up every single dollar little by little and calculating how much more left I needed to save (including the sales tax LOL). Good times... I played the demo weeks ago when it came out (of course) and I was very impressed with how well the music was updated while keeping faithful to the original. The iconic themes have all held up very well.
This is it, Aerith's theme. The instruments used will give justice to her cutscenes, especially her last one!! I'm crying, I can't wait for the HD remake.
Cloud is so cute, I'm glad they are keeping his imperfections. His flaws and trials are what resonated with me as someone how tried hard to be strong in the face of trauma and mental illness.
Also: @FinalFantasy and @SquareEnix , thank you for releasing this game during these horrible times! We shall never forget! May FF7Remake give us hope and help rebuild this world! The Life Stream needs to flow freely again. Because it was our fault. I pray we all hear Gaia's admonishment.
This made me very happy, especially the part where they talked about Cloud's character! It really gives me a lot of hope that they'll do him justice in this game! Can't wait to see how it actually works out!
I am so grateful to everyone at Square for working so diligently to create something faithful to their own vision, while still keeping in mind things that fans of the original enjoyed the most. I'm not normally a fan of remakes, because they usually lose the spirit of the original, but I am beyond excited for Remake.
just finished the game 2 days ago, and i must say: EVERYTHING in this remake about the characters, is made into perfection! originally i wanted to play with japanese synchro, but after hearing the german language i was just shocked, how native it sounds! they really did an awesome job! it has so much depth, at a point i thought they were alive. now THIS how games should been made! SPOILER: they already changed some major stuff from the original. my gut says aerith is not going to die in this remake, which would make many people happy! even if it changes a part from the original story, i would really like to have her until the end of the story.
I also remember being in Midgar for a long time, but that's just natural because it was the single longest section of the entire game, those 8 or 10 hours there, then leaving that huge city and finding a whole world that is much, much bigger, that really conveyed the sense of epic. The world appeared before our eyes, like a place open to explore in any direction, almost endless, and that superb music theme (Main Theme), which is the single best melody of the entire Final Fantasy history... so, yeah, Midgar is bigger in our memory because we remember a feeling, an emotion, a meaning, not just the actual experience. KAZUSHIGE NOJIMA: Yeah, Cloud looks cool on nthe outside but we fans, who played the original in '97, more than once, know that's just a front, a pose, and he is not cool, but flawed. And that's exactly what makes him a great character, not a pulp fiction hero like Doc Savage or Flash Gordon, square-jawed and always on point, but awkward, sometimes insecure, vulnerable, but at the same time with a big resposability over his shoulders to lead this band of weirdos who recognize him as the less than perfect hero and still choose him as their leader and choose to follow him supporting him on his mission. Aerith: "And really values just being alive". Heart breaks. In my opinion, the best thing about REMAKE were Biggs, Wedge and Jessie. Especially Jessie! I remember that I almost cried when they died in the original game, and I fucking cried this time when we see Jessie die. It's overwhelming. The three have great things, their backstories are sad and (aesthetically) powerful. I wish you talked a little more about them, not just 20 seconds, they are really important characters, not fillers.
Some people are going to be salty and complain about that, tho, because they're always hating when someone officially highlights Tifa or says something remotely positive about her. It's sad, and most of that comes from pitting her against Aerith (who is also an important character and is vital to the story). Let every girl have the recognition they deserve without the need to constantly mention the other, compare them and/or tear down the one you don't favor simply out of spite. It's 2020, we all should very much be over piting women against women and the petiness of this all... Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk 😅
I really like this dev diaries because by seeing how they express all that, you can easily tell the love they have for Final Fantasy VII; and when you have that, there is no way to mess things up. I'll say it again, for what I have seen and the demo I have played, this game looks better than I could have ever imagined. I'm in for as many parts as you see fit to tell the story with this level of quality.
See 4:30 and 14:19 for details of what I focus on, below. I'm very intrigued by how Cloud's character and theme will be conveyed and evaluated in the remake, mainly because, in 1997, being dismissive and showing how much you DIDN'T care was the apex of cool culture. Whereas today, blessedly, it's cool to be involved, to grow and change, to emphatically give a shit about the world, the people in it, and understanding how you're included and strengthened within our society. Of course, Cloud's evolution is about recognizing and moving from detached to embraced, but it'll be fun to see how an icon of grungy Gen X apathy is transitioned into the Millennial culture of connectivity.
Very unlikely. The flashback would be an amazing and way too perfect opening for part 2, with the real Nibelheim being the perfect book ending. On the same note I expect a part 3 starting after Nibelheim, ending at the North Cave when Sephiroth and Weapon awake. And then the rest in a part 4. If you lay out the story bits of the original, these make for pretty good and very thematic slices. Part 1 exploring the present, who's who, what's what. Part 2 exploring the past, aka. the why's why. Part 3 chases Jenova and Shin-Ra around, exploring the world beyond civilisation, and diggin' a bit in Wutai. Part 4 is fixing the world, revisiting all the places, concluding all narrative threads bit by bit.
Nojima confirming Cloud is lame and sometimes cringey is the best assurance I could ever ask for about this game. I love Cloud because he's a stoic dweeb.
I love how they explain it as if its their first time telling the story, those who played the original knows how complex these characters are, especially cloud.. i'm kinda jealous of those playing ff7 for the first time.

@@Cetra29 the story telling truly is... first class.
Can't wait to see more!
exactly! that's what i thought too : D

Tifa and Aerith are so beautiful!
Yes they are both beautiful ff characters ever

I hope we get more bits like the conversation after the Sweeper fight. ("I meant your age, not your goddamn rank!")
i rly just want one PERFECT above highwind scene

Can't wait to see the rest of the characters later. Cid, Yuffie, Vincent... Gonna be awesome!
Yuffie is the one character they could easily throw into this game as a cameo (would be a nice nod to the original rumor that went around back in the day about her being able to be gotten before leaving Mid)

The "new Aerith" scene will probably be a side mission depicting how she saved Marlene, since it wasn't shown in the original.

Its so nice to hear about the development and how much work is being put into this
just finished the game 2 days ago, and i must say: EVERYTHING in this remake about the characters, is made into perfection! originally i wanted to play with japanese synchro, but after hearing the german language i was just shocked, how native it sounds! they really did an awesome job! it has so much depth, at a point i thought they were alive. now THIS how games should been made!
SPOILER:
they already changed some major stuff from the original.
my gut says aerith is not going to die in this remake, which would make many people happy! even if it changes a part from the original story, i would really like to have her until the end of the story.
Deeper into Clouds psychology, yes I can wait love this 🔥♥️ the passion they have for this game is there for all to see
I also remember being in Midgar for a long time, but that's just natural because it was the single longest section of the entire game, those 8 or 10 hours there, then leaving that huge city and finding a whole world that is much, much bigger, that really conveyed the sense of epic.
I'd love to see Tifa in Tekken 7
I’m so glad they’re focusing on getting Cloud’s personality right and making him a dork!
on mark 12:20, if you pay close attention, you can listen to the Kalm Theme 😉
I love what they did with cloud here.. it feels like it should!
6:08 - Nojima screaming Tifa rights
Some people are going to be salty and complain about that, tho, because they're always hating when someone officially highlights Tifa or says something remotely positive about her. It's sad, and most of that comes from pitting her against Aerith (who is also an important character and is vital to the story). Let every girl have the recognition they deserve without the need to constantly mention the other, compare them and/or tear down the one you don't favor simply out of spite. It's 2020, we all should very much be over piting women against women and the petiness of this all...
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk 😅
I agree. Guess they’re still stuck in a 20 year old feud.
Gives us something to look forward to during these testing times 😄
Bro you're chilling in your room, what test
I mean the whole world haha but i understand what you are saying.
GAME OF THE YEAR!
Seeing how much love and care they put into this remake.. it made me a bit emotional! 😢 Thank you team for working so hard, it looks awesome so far!
12:55 you can hear Kalm’s theme! I’m really wondering if the game is going to finish with Nibelheim fake flashback 🤔🤔🤔
I am guessing its a music collection for the jukebox
Nojima confirming Cloud is lame and sometimes cringey is the best assurance I could ever ask for about this game. I love Cloud because he's a stoic dweeb.
