Seeing the camera pull out to reveal the full scale of Midgar in the remake will never get old. This is some serious quality
i know right still holds up! that being said i wonder what people will say in 23 years about this game.
The camera just pulled out... and out... and out, intimidating you with a proper perspective of this thing the Shinra Corporation had enough clout and funds to create when they were less powerful. I felt so tiny.
And you can even see they were working on _expansion_ ... there was construction equipment and clusters of lit buildings on those plate extensions outside the wall.
This game has been out for over a month and a half now, and this opening still gets me smiling every time.
I've beaten it on normal, and when going back for the second playthrough, it still gets me.

I have watched it like 20 times, and every time, right as the meteor comes on screen, and it hits that crescendo, my heart always skips a beat.

Nineteen years ago my older brother played this game and it took him forever to beat it, but I watched him play every second of it because I thought it looked cool and it was like watching a movie. I was too young to play it then, but now I’m 24 and I’m going to play the remake and beat it while he watches over me. I hope I make him proud! 😅 🤍 Miss you big bro, this one’s for you.

Jimmy Hoffa ...why? Op is right lol some people aren't going to live long enough to play, honestly if I can play this game before I die I'll be happy. I've been waiting for this since I was like 13, I turn 30 this year. Been a fan since I was 7, when the original came out. Op isn't being disrespectful, he's speaking truth. Seriously, RIP to all those who waited for this, and didn't live to experience it. There's few "vanity" things in life like this that I personally wish to experience before I die. Op is 100% correct, you never know what tomorrow brings. Any day can be anyone's last, weather they're healthy or not.

The transition of Sephiroth's theme overlapping Aerith's theme feels like an ominous storm hanging over the horizon. Gives a sense of how Aerith feels hearing the Planet's desperation and pain.
We've never really been able to see or understand exactly how Aerith feels the planet communicating with her beyond 'talking', but with this I can feel the warning the planet is giving Aerith. Urgent. Pay attention.

@@sowianskiwojownik5973 Theory is that the OG FF7 ending sequence is the beginning of the FF7 remake. Aerith and Sephiroth are basically there to change events of the original and the Whispers (arbiters of faith) were there to stop the original timeline from changing which is why they kept popping up throughout the remake during important events.

However you may feel about this remake, for me, when Barrett says "Get down here, merc." And Cloud swoops in with the music at 4:57 it's just one of those YESSS moments

I studied video game art and design in the early 2000s. Everyone talked about Square’s CG quality. This intro is an absolute masterpiece. The reveal of Midgar city is mind-numbingly phenomenal.
Sad that the pre-rendered cutscenes might be a thing of the past now. There are none in FF16.

Sonic and Final Fantasy have 2 common points: deep, complex, fantastic and varied stories... and CGI quality.
When i was like 10 or so me and my friend would play FF7 for countless of hours and, yes it really took us a Loooong time to get through the game. All the memory's are great. Sadly my friend drowned cause of a heroic act. Never played FF7 again since. But this remake i will play. He will look down on me and we both wish, he could be there! Rip Michael Svalelid. Best guy there ever was

My best friend that I grew up with playing FF7 died in a motorcycle crash. I know exactly how you feel. I'm married now with a kid and career. Rarely play videogames (despite my old avatar), I'm setting aside time from work alone for this one though. For the past and to celebrate my best friend and the game we grew up with.

In the original intro, aerith already had her eyes open but in the remake aerith is opening her eyes which also happened at the end of the original...

This opening scene showcases how much love and attention to detail was put into every frame of this game.
3:39 gives me goosebumps every time. Hearing this classic soundtrack fully orchestrated is genuinely a thing of beauty.
When the logo flashed at 3:39, it dyed our eyes with Mako color! That's where we became Cloud
The opening intro is genius!
The music really took center stage here. The quiet emptiness of the wasteland, the vague hint of threat from the Sephiroth chants, the echo when some guy walked on a flower, the hopeful swell right before the main theme dropped, just supremely well done and crafted with utmost care. Hollywood should take some notes, this is how you treat a beloved property.

Almost 20 years ago, my grandfather played this game everyday. He finished the game and keep grinding or even replay it forever ( Until FFX arrived then he continue this loop with it). I remember the soundtrack of this game and it keep giving me goosebumps everytime, even until now. When I was about 9 years old, i remember watching FF advent children with him and we felt so hype about how cool the animation is. I hope he is still here with me Today. I hope he can see how I've grown up. I wish I had a chance to buy him his favorite game :) . The game is releasing, but I wish it was 6 years earlier :) . I'm 23 now and I beat this game for you!! you made my childhood

I think they've been a time loop that resets everytime Aerith destroys Meteor
I think both sephiroth and his bad friend genesis will be villains tho. Like they have the chanche ro flesh his character out
2:00 See how they're adding extra context and visual storytelling to the scenes to make them much more clear. Instead of staring at a fuse box and then walking onto a street, Aerith is doing something more profound that you remember, and will make more sense later.
This is just simply, utterly, and most definitely a cinematic masterpiece where sound, vision, and music come together to create a Midgar you could never imagine.
This is by far the best work SquareEnix have ever done. Sensational 👏👏👏

My dad really enjoyed playing this game before I was born and continued to play several final fantasy games while my siblings and I watched and enjoyed with him.
He would always call us down whenever he turned on the games because he knew we loved to watch the cutscenes and the characters and the cool magic.
This game carries real sentimental attachment for me and I can’t wait to experience the story for myself.
Winospa sounds like a great time
Rewatching this now in March 2024, I see it in a new light, the hints of One Winged Angel represent how the Sephiroth we know from this game is either from or fully aware of the original timeline and this time he is going to try and stake more of a hold over Cloud and us to achieve his goals. Rather than appearing at the end of Midgar, he is now showing that he is lurking all the time, even in the opening cutscene.
When the theme song kicked in at 2:13 I cried

It's been 3 years, 8 months and 9 days this game has been out and this intro is still one of the best opening game movies of all time, from direction, blocking, graphics, sound design, music and editing. From someone who is a film maker myself, this is perfection!
I played the original so many times before.
When I saw the remake's intro it gave me chills. There was literally tears in my eyes.

I think like 10 or so years ago, i asked my self wouldn't it be amazing if FF VII was remade in this generation with photo-realistic visuals, though at the time it was only the ps3 gen but still. This is the greatest video game intro of all time...masterfully redone with modern technology.The city of Midgar is more detailed than ever..and if you noticed the outside geographic area of Midgar is completely barren and desert like...that’s because it was once a lush ever green landscape full of life.All of that was “sucked up” away by Shinra in the form of Mako Energy.
Its been 3 years and im still convinced that no other video game in the future will ever top the badassery of this intro.

My jaw quite literally dropped in awe when I saw Aerith and heard the music.
I had been staying away from almost everything when it comes to this game and I'm glad I did. Seeing it now and so close to release... just wow.

4:40 is my favorite character introduction, both the slight change of tune in the song for Barret, and the reveal of Cloud
I was looking at the beginning thinking, oh that must be near Corel or Cosmo Canyon given how Barren it is. Then I realized, That's not a desert... that's outside of Midgar.
It's like that because they sucked the life out of the planet! You can see that after effects outward of the city, its barren because they are killing the planet! Such a excellent detail.
Remember the motorcycle battle at the beginning of Advent Children?

The hawk flying to Midgar at the begin is already a manifestation of Sephiroth. We can hear "one winged angel" notes.

This opening is absolutely amazing. I’ve been playing this since May 2020 and I can happily put my hand on my heart and say this is by far one of the best games I’ve ever played. The cinematics are astonishing

I can't help but cry my eyes out really hard at this intro. The music building up, the horns blasting out, the fantastic lights and animation, Midgar truly feels alive, breathing, and darkly beautiful. Thank you so much for the amazing work in making this remake a masterpiece in all its possible glory, that I thought we'd never see.

I know I'm late to the party. But, playing this at 144hz max settings was one of the best experiences of my life. I've spent countless hours playing FFX and I never got the chance to play FFVII cause I didn't own a ps1 back in the day and I wasn't familiar with custom firmwares and everything so I could play it on ps2. When I heard that there was going to be a remastered version of this coming out for the ps4, I smiled from ear to ear and got a copy at day one. Now, a full year latter and I just finished the pc version. The characters, the fun to play style of the game, the direction, I'm simply so happy that there will be a whole another generation learning about one of the greatest franchises of all time. Can't wait for part 2!
