This is the first video I have seen that actually makes me consider the Ultra.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Agreed, given I'm an android user and just bought the s23 at the start of the year, I'm waiting till it's no longer getting updates, but by then the apple watch ultra series will be fantastic, and even better than it is now. And I'm certain I'll at least try it out.
Same.
Same. I work from home as an analyst and need to be able to take calls during working hours, but I get easily lured into opening apps after I am done speaking.
It’s a bad excuse, but I feel like this could be a useful too.
Don't forget to buy a good power bank for that overpriced apple toy😂😂😂
I’m also a 40yr old Dad who knows I have a phone addiction. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the inspiration and push I needed to put that phone down and focus on what’s most important. I wish you all the best in your journey as well.
Thanks man and I am stoked it inspired you
“Sent from my iPhone” 😂
I wish every tech review was like this. I feel like everyone comes to hear opinions and real world experiences but all we ever get is tech specs and endless comparisons to other brands. Nice job!
I appreciate that!
Takes a strong person to admit to their addictions, no matter how trivial they seem. You got me at that point in the video. I was with you the rest of the way. I am trying to leverage the watch and turn off the phone. Thank you.
Thanks man I appreciate that. Thanks for the view and the comment
Leaving my phone at home and just having my watch has made things so much better when going out with my family. I don’t have kids asking me to get off my phone anymore and just being present is such a better way to live. Great video dude.
So pumped you enjoyed it man.
Probably one of the best review videos I’ve seen in a long time. Seriously, dude. Such a great opener and so great to cut through the noise of all the typical review videos and talk about what this product does to create a FEELING.
Plus “Fix You” by Coldplay made me feel my feelings too… 🤘🙌
I appreciate it Matthew:) I wanted to put it in the intro video but it never fit in right.
Excellent video! I have an Ultra, and occasionally swap it back for one of my analogue watches, but when I use the Ultra with cellular, I love it - the feeling of casting off the shackles of my phone is amazing. Literally feel lighter, more present. But still communicatable (word…?). And can pay for stuff. It’s great. And like others, might dust off my old DSLR, as taking pictures is the only thing I miss not having my phone.
Great tip!
Absolutely loved this video, Brandon! 41 year old here also with similar phone concerns. 10 days into having the Ultra and it's the best tech I've had in years. Yes, tech and build awesome but as you put so well, the freedom to not be constantly consumed by the phone. Taking the watch for a hike on Sunday with the AirPods Pro and no phone was liberating! New sub here and look forward to more videos!
Oh that’s so cool to hear man glad you enjoyed it.
One thing I did was pick the 13 Mini and have decided to stay with it. I need it for online banking and other useful functions like email and texts but I keep it fairly limited to apps that are functional. My Ultra 2 is fast becoming my go to device for communications by phone and texting via dictation vice typing. I’m discovering that I really don’t need to have my phone with me all the time. The Ultra/Ultra 2 makes that possible. In fact, if I were going on a trip I would take my iPhone, Ultra and my camera but leave the phone in the hotel. Good job.
Yeah it’s awesome when you can leave the phone at home!
This video should be viral to no end. Literally the truth in every way. Even though everyone differs in how much time is spent on media (social, email, etc), there’s always room for growth in making time to be DISCONNECTED.
Thank you Brandi that’s incredibly kind of you.
I'm so glad you made this video. I've been searching for something exactly like this. I would love it if you could make a follow-up that details your day-to-day usage of both devices. I want to make this transition myself but want to know that it's making a real difference every day and I would love to hear how you choose "today is going to be a phone day" vs a "watch day."
Sure thing! But it would be incredibly hard to just label it a phone day or a watch day, it really depends on what my needs are. Like I said in the video, I could have done (and have done) everything on my watch. The only reason I needed my phone was to control the camera app. I'm personally just seeing the phone more and more as unnecessary. I leave my phone on my nightstand when I go to bed, and it stays there when I wake up. All my work is done on the computer. IG & YT is now done on the computer as well, and not the phone. To make my workouts more efficient I just take the watch because I take less breaks and work harder when I just have music and I'm not texting or watching TH-cam video. I will say the phone has an advantage over the watch when it comes to maps because of the real estate, so if I NEED to go somewhere I never have, the phone is less stressful to rely on, but other than that, everyday is "everything but the phone" day.
What a great video, by an actual adult. Loved it!
Hahaha only by age
Dude I got a CAT S22 and just couldn't. I'm a Pixel user, but got the AWU2 for all the reasons you listed, and it's been the best way to disconnect because you keep all the things you need, plus most of the entertainment, without useless scrolling. Great video! Very happy I got to see it.
That’s awesome man, hope you’re loving it so far
Dude, I really appreciate this video and it's the first video I've ever watched of yours. I also got the Ultra when it first came out, so over a year ago. It's hands down my favorite piece of technology. I leave my phone at home all the time and it's freeing. I so relate to what you were talking about with Instagram and needing to disconnect more. The Ultra is a piece of tech in a long while that I feel like benefits us in the sense of it creates a method to stay connected, without being too connected. I also literally have zero marks on mine and I snowboard, surf, backpack and have a crazy 1.5 yr old who is always trying to bite it. I loved this video. Also we just went to the Oregon Coast a few weeks back and stayed at the Hallmark right in front of Haystack rock, so that was fun to see. Also love all the Melin gear, I might be more addicted to Melin hats than Instagram now 😂
That place is so rad!!!
I loved this. Loved the self-reflection, the honesty, the perspective, and the way you helped us feel through the journey with you. Maybe it’s the algorithms, but watching this is almost serendipitous for me. I was just musing with a friend yesterday about how our brains are not evolved to handle to constant bombardment of echo-chamber content and bad news. The steady stream leaves me feeling exhausted, angry and fearful most days. He encouraged me to remove my news widgets and unnecessary notifications. It feels like I’m weaning off a drug, but in just 24 hours I notice myself feeling more at peace and with greater bandwidth. Just got the AWU2 last week, so maybe it’s time to plan some hikes. At the same time, most of our can’t spend our lives off the grid. As inspired as I felt by your week-long trek, I would love if and how you’re maintaining a healthy disconnection in your day-to-day life.
Thank you so much for the kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed the video and it's stray from the norm
What? Self - reflection? It's all made up, it's fake.
Refreshing content, love your take on the ultra. It make so much more sense to me than any of the 1000 reviews I’ve wasted time watching that say the same exact thing. This is a video of true value. Thank you - I just bought myself the Ultra!
Awesome! Thank you!
The effort you made for this video was epic. Keep it going and I’m sure I’ll be one of those guys that says “I remember following this guy before his channel blew up!”
Thank you so so much man that means a lot
Agree 100%. That's the reason I am considering getting one. I am glad you brought it out to the world... It's a relatively big screen that can replace your phone for the important things and avoid part of the wasted time we spend on the phone... and this should ultimately reduce anxiety. Also the battery thing is real as well. Not having to worry about it reduces anxiety a bit gime, I always try to get the bigger phone, to get the bigger battery
Thank you! Hope you love it
Just found your channel.. subscribed.
Great video, I really like the format/intro etc.
I bought the ultra for the same reason as you.. freedom.. yet still connected to the people who are important to us as well as having access to basic tech to make our life easier, such as Apple Pay/navigation/music etc
Awesome, thank you!
Excellent video... that was the best product review I've seen. Thanks you Brandon.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 thank you sir. Glad you enjoyed it!
Intro was awesome man, footage and editing was on point👌 Really considering it for same use, just wish they has a smaller version!
Thank you so much stoked you enjoyed it!
You have no idea how awesome it is to come across this video. I’m planning on pretty much going phone-less in 2024 and the Ultra is a big part of the reason why I can even consider that. Just the right amount of connected that I need and it makes me almost excited to be able to be free from my phone!
Glad I could help!
Fantastic intro. Really interesting video. Kudos. I’ve just pulled the trigger on one of these. Looking forward to receiving it.
Thank you:) hope you enjoyed the video and hope you enjoy the watch!
You very accurately describe my feeling of owning the Ultra watch. It is the feeling, the awareness of all that it can do, that it is so universal, and covers so many different aspects.
That many people do not understand that the built-in apps are in many cases only intended for demonstration, and not the ultimate, and that the ultimate must be found in the APP store, it's such a shame for the watch, but it's just in the reason. people's misunderstanding. For example, built-in workouts may not be the best, but you can download so much else. The same applies to navigation, sailing, - yes, almost everything you can dream of. From Photo to Cars, from Astrology to Zoology.
Yeah the true power is in the apps
I had a first or second gen Apple Watch and got rid of it because it was adding distraction on top of my phone addiction/distractions. With new battery life in the Ultra, I came back to the watch, so I could leave my phone behind. Man, this is freeing and I even use theatre mode all the time to limit the 'screen lights up' distraction. As a Gen X'er, I grew up without the distraction of phones and this move has been a blessing that was actually easy to do. I love when I go out to dinner and someone asks me to check my phone for something. I just tell them I don't carry that. Plus, I don't have that stupid weight always in my pocket, that often gets in the way when squatting down to tie up shoes.
Yeah it’s so nice to just say I don’t have it. Especially with my kid haha. I love my kid, but god damn I don’t wanna sift through a million tik tok videos for that one cat video
stupid comment.
Thanks bro, love the video and effort.
🙏🏽 thank you for the support man
Sick intro mate! The grading, the framing, the story. Had me hooked.🙌
Joey, thanks buddy I appreciate it
This is a better commercial than what Apple managed to pull together in all these years combined.
That's insanely nice of you:) thanks for watching and the support.
This should be an apple ad
Currently have AW7 which I love, but definitely want to upgrade to AW Ultra later this year. I do love the idea of leaving my iPhone at home more, 2 things holding me back, the loss of the camera app and also Apple Books app, I know I could switch to Apple Books audio but I do love the actual act of reading a book in my spare time.
Great dilemma to have I guess:) if you can read an actual hard copy instead of an app I’d say it’s probably worth your effort and experimentation:)
Good reason to have a Kindle. I keep one with me, and I have that for reading on instead of the phone.
Upgraded from a AW7. Do it. Just do it. As a first responder this has been a game changer.
Terrific Video. Just got an apple watch Ultra yesterday ( upgraded from series 7) and i could not agree more. The idea that i don't have to pick up my phone for literally everything is allowing me to feel a bit more disconnected and the freedom to not have to pick up the phone as much and doom scroll.
Love it man!!!
Yet another great video! Loved the intro. If you already edited the rest, you should upload it! SO about the phone thing: I'd also like to use my phone less, so if the investment really makes sense, I'd be willing to try a smartwatch. What I wonder is how much your screentime has gone down since you owned the watch. I'm afraid that it is just another screen I will look at, so rather more or similar screentime...
I didn’t, I just couldn’t get it to work. I might make another video on the photo channel highlighting things I didn’t in this video though:) stoked you enjoyed the video though! A while ago. It’s gone down by like 65%. And because I still have concussion symptoms, I can definitely tell you I’ve noticed a huge change because my brain isn’t nearly as fried.
This is absolutely great! Thank you Brandon ♥️
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is exactly why I bought my Ultra 2. I’m so sick of spending every second of the day on my phone. I love still being connected but disconnected from all the socials. Also $10 a month for cellular is a steal. Solid vid!
Thanks McKay!
Wait, that’s for the whole phone plan right? Where I live I pay approximately the equivalent of $14 for my phone plan (calls and data) and that includes my Apple Watch plan as well. Get 32GB/ month and 300 mins calling any phone on any network.
@@Gooeybrowniebaby32GB seems impossible for a month, at least in the US
How do you mean impossible? Is it not enough to get by, or $14 is too cheap for 32GB over there?
(In the Netherlands we pay a €5 extra for watch cellular on whatever plan you and have. )
@@ericvergunst7275 I just think 32GB would only last most Americans a couple of days 😂 and also most companies here make you pay for unlimited data
Really appreciate your perspective - I felt I could relate to near all the the points you raised. Subscribed.
Thanks for the sub! And glad you liked it!
I'm upgrading from a AW8 to the Ultra 2... I hadn't thought about it actually REPLACING my phone for a lot of the time. Now I'm looking to do just that! Thanks for the video. It's giving me a LOT to think about... 👍
Give it a try!
You hit the nail on the head. Apple Watch Ultra = Freedom
I too, like yourself have an addiction to my phone. Being now able to leave my phone at home and still be contactable in an emergency is a godsend. You’ve gained a new subscriber 😊
Thank you so much!
A flashlight and a camera is missing. Still have to bring my phone with me in case I have to take a pic, or record a short video.
It has a flashlight - but no camera for sure.@@dennishaughton4554
Gotta respect your honesty in stating that you are addicted to your Phone!!
Thanks man. It’s super common but we don’t talk about it enough
Well done! Really enjoyed the video. I do have a some thoughts with a question regarding the ultra. I bought the Apple Watch SE for the same reason, to disconnect from my phone. However, after trying to leave my phone at home I’ve found several major drawbacks. First is the intermittent Bluetooth pairing with AirPods. It’s usually great, but sometimes it gets messed up and the only way to resolve is to re-pair through my phone. Also, many apps, such as music and podcasts are downloaded onto the watch through the phone. So the iPhone is still necessary as a central hub station that you interact with and must use on regular basis to keep your watch media up to date. I don’t use social media but still enjoy music and podcasts and talking on the phone. Have you ran into these issues on the ultra as well? What is your experience with disconnecting from the phone entirely?
I have not run into those issues personally.
Nice perspective. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it:)
Great intro video!
I'm glad you like it!!!
As a 41 year old man myself I can relate to so many of your points…Never considered an Ultra before but this peaked my interest. I would watch more of your product reviews if you keep taking this “journey map” approach.
Thanks man I really appreciate that, I let me know how the journey unfolds
I like you're style Brandon - I only came across the quote "Comparison is the thief of Joy" yesterday! and it's so very very true. Since pondering that, and learning how to just be thankful for what I have, I now have a peace within that relaxes me in a way nothing else could. I have the normal Apple Watch and can wear it a day and a bit without charging whilst still using it for all my payments etc, not sure if it's just the newer versions that are better. I'll probably go the Ultra when they release a significant update.
Thanks for watching and yes the Ultra does have significantly better battery life.
Great video 👍🏻 I upgraded from a se 2 to an ultra 2 & just love it . I don’t climb mountains or go deep sea diving but just love all the functions it has should I need it . Plus the extended battery life plus 64 gig memory, but the no 1 reason it gets me away from my phone & still can be in touch if needed . Just wish it would receive wats app on cellular when out. Would definitely recommend the ultra 2 👍🏻
Good choice!
loved the intro Brandon! refreshing to see something beyond the 1000th repeated spec sheet review
Thank you so much:)
This is the video i was waiting nd searching for . Thanks man loved it
Glad you liked it
I want you to know that I’ve watched all those other videos and the real authentic nature of this video made me order my new watch immediately after watching this. I’ve been on the fence but you spoke to something that means a lot to me disconnection while still staying connected.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 thank you sir.
Wow. In all seriousness, you should be an inspirational speaker. I mean taking a piece of tech and making a statement about it in this way… wow. I rarely watch an entire “review” but I did for this and it was awesome
Oh man, thanks for such a kind supportive comment. And for watching:)
Wow... this never happened before, I just subscribed to a channel after seeing a "random" video from the homepage. Good job Brandon, I really enjoyed your video
Welcome aboard!
Thank you! A refreshing point of view, I’m so sick of all the “specs reviews” they aren’t reviews, they are ads…. So thank you! Side note, what hat are you wearing? Love the vintage rope on the brim, but I can’t make out the brand. Thank you! And thanks again for the refreshing perspectives!!
Thanks man glad you enjoyed it! The brand is Melin. My favorite hats for sure it’s their Coronado Line
LOVE the video. Liked. Subd. Just ordered the Ultra 2 as an upgrade to my old Apple Watch 4 and what you are talking about here is exactly what I want. Leaving my phone at home for a weekend and going for a trip.
Thank you brother! Hope you love it as much as I do.
Been on the fence of getting one, and I’m glad I saw this because I’m on the same boat. Thank you for the video!
Hope you enjoy it!
I enjoyed this video. As an outdoor enthusiast I was very impressed by the backtracking feature. I use All Trails and Komoot on my iPhone. I would enjoy seeing more details on what is possible on the Ultra.
The Hiking Guy does some really good videos!
Loved this video! I agree with literally everything you said about what this watch does for you, albeit I could do a better job not taking my phone every where when I have the watch on. It's a great way to disconnect for sure. On my long runs, it feels good to not have my phone and not be paranoid about having the family back at home not be able to get ahold of me if they needed. The ultra is the first Apple Watch that I've gotten the cellular plan connected. Great job with this video again!
Thank you!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
You gain a new subscriber man keep up I like your content
Tito, thank you!
Awesome video! I recently got the S9 cellular (upgrade from S4 GPS) but right until I was standing in the store I was debating the Ultra 2. I don't have any regrets, but if I had seen this video before buying it may have swayed me the other direction. I love having a watch with cellular capabilities though. I feel like 99% of what you said in this video applies to me as well (other than the Ultra battery life & added durability). I'm trying to make an effort to leave my phone behind more often. My only gripe is that there's no dedicated WhatsApp Apple Watch App so I still have to rely on my phone to be near by for that.
No need to regret anything! Glad you’re stoked with it:)
Great job! Really enjoyed the video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
love the cinematics!
Thanks man!
Great video! I got the ultra for similar reasons - I totally agree.
Thanks brother🙏🏽
What a great way to describe how one can leave their phone and at the same time don’t feel anxious about not being connected. I’m gonna take your word for it, and go on hikes without my phone. That would really be something new in my life. Thank you so much for this, Brandon. And yes, I have liked and subscribed👍
Love it!! Let me know how it goes:)
that was so nice to watch thank you
i am about to get one of them so i am now even more exited to get it and i will try that also like you
thank so much for this super video
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 thank you
You’re hitting on an amazing insight here. Never thought about an Ultra before this!
Thank you! Yeah it was a total ahha moment for me when I realized I could "replace" my phone.
i really like your intro of this video, feels so different, keep up the good work!
🙏🏽🙏🏽 I’ll do my best
Terrific video! Really! I just subscribe your channel. Compliments for your originality and very transparent approach.
Welcome aboard! And thank you!
Great intro, sucked me into the rest of the video. I didn't need another Apple Watch review like the hundreds of others I've seen and luckily, I didn't get one 👍 Subscribed
Thank you!!!🙏🏽
Thank you for this video and your authenticity
Thanks for watching!
Finally, your video is the one I’ve been waiting for. Thanks brother!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
This video has earned you a subscriber. Loved the message and perspective. Rock on BT.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 thank you!
thanks for the video! it helped me make my decision to buy one
Glad you enjoyed it
Keep making videos you enjoy making! ❤ I’ve only just stumbled across your channel but I really enjoyed this video! Subscribed!!
Thanks for subbing! 💪🏽🙏🏽
@brandon talbot THANK YOU! Finally valuable insights about the Why vs. The traditional Whats. Please, keep leaning on this approach because it makes a difference for people who actually want to make decision.
THANK YOU for watching :) glad you enjoyed it
Great Video bro, youre so right!
Glad you liked it
Exactly the video I was looking for!
Awesome 👍🏼
Amazing video mate. I´m thinking of purchasing an Ultra 2, and I also have the over addiction, as I spend about 7-8 hours. Hopefully I can start working without phone.
Also, what is the best way to run outside, and still have music on the watch? Any specific app?
All the best!!!
I really like the Nike Run Club App
Awesome video. I am in the same boat. I know I spend way too much time on my phone and actually, I just turned 40 today. I see my habits rubbing off on my kids, and it's disturbing. I can't tell my kids to do things I wouldn't be willing to do myself. I have been researching dumbphones like crazy, and then I ran across your video. the iWatch is the way to go. it has everything I need, and nothing I don't. I am gonna be picking one up as soon as I can.
That is awesome!
Same reason I upgraded from the Series 8 to Apple Watch Ultra 2. For the longest time I didn’t want to pay for cellular but now I’m really seeing the value. As for the phone, I deleted social media apps because it was too addicting. Instead, I occasionally use social media through the browser on my computer, most just to keep in touch with a few people who still message me there.
That’s awesome! How do you like the ultra 2?
@@BrandonTalbot love it! Especially the on device Siri.
That's a reason itself to upgrade from the AWU1@@PeaceBeginsOnYourPlate
Great video. I am a bit perplexed though with the "Disconnect" concept. I feel like I have been and continue to do what you are describing with my Series 4 w/cellular for a long time. I can leave my phone at home. I can get email, text calls, music etc. minus what appears to be some awesome navigation on the Ultra. Could you have not "Disconnected" with an earlier version?
I talk about it in the video, but yes I technically could have but with my huge hands actually doing many of the communication tasks were next to impossible on that size of watch
@@BrandonTalbot got it. Yes the screen size is not optimal. Just wanted to ensure I understood. Thanks again.
For sure!@@vagabondvans6571
Great vid! I've got the Ultra and the only thing I lack is a native hiking map on the watch to use in the EU. I tried a third party app that included a map on the watch but did not like it and it was sub based. I've used Komoot for ages and I love it, but when used on the watch, it needs connection to the phone and there is no map view on the watch. Thus, I still need the phone, especially for navigating using Komoot maps and sometimes the Strava global heat map. How did you get around this issue? How did you navigate in the forest for example?
There’s a new app called goose maps that gives you offline apps, you should try that:)
Thank you for sharing. I need to do the same did you eliminate phone altogether? Great video
Glad you enjoyed it.
No because I still need it for some things.
I’m so glad to find a video that actually shows what this watch is capable of rather than just another spec video. Loved it!
Awesome! Stoked to hear you enjoyed it
I am hooked now to this channel 🙃
Awesome content 👍
🫡
Hey i loved your content, keep up the good work
Thanks, will do!
Great video! Not only did you make some great points, but the production quality was excellent. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Glad it was helpful! And thanks for watching!
Simply a nice video, thanks!
Glad you liked it!
One of the best reviews I have seen in a while. Everything I need to know :). Thank you!!!
Happy to hear that!
Really nice and unique video. Thank you
Glad you liked it!
Great video. It provides me real practical and aesthetic scenes using Apple Watch Ultra without an iPhone (I actually got an Ultra2 a few days ago and tried this minimalist life as well, and still enjoy seeing how other people use it).
Nice!
Wow, was an amazing video and message below this one. Appreciated the short film at the beginning.
Thanks man. I appreciate it:)
I absolutely loved your video Brandon. Thank you for making it!
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 thank you for watching!
This was the video I’ve been looking for. Im gonna go to work tomorrow just with my ultra 2. I just got the ultra 2, 2 days ago. Thanks man
Dude that’s awesome!!! I can’t wait to hear about the experience
Love the intro video!
I just upgraded mine to Apple Watch Ultra 2 from Apple Watch Series 0. Love every bit of it ✨

Excellent and very refreshing review! Really enjoyed it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Well said. I totally agree.
Thank you:)
Awesome video brother. Just subscribed. Just got my Apple Watch Ultra 2 yesterday. Looking forward to not carrying this 13 pro max all the time. Blessings to you and your family. 🤙🤙🤙🤙😎

What a well made video this was! Best review I watched so far. BTW What camera gear do you use ?
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 thank you! Canon R5C, Red Komodo
@@BrandonTalbot Your cinematography is so amazing! Makes me want to start making videos again. Keep up the great work ser 🫡
@@doktorr23 That's incredibly kind of you thank you!
Nice job Brandon, i appreciate the places you decided to travel to, nice intro vid with the Goonies sound bites.
I love the idea of traveling without the phone and putting all the essential coms in the form of a watch instead of a brick in the pocket. I also really dont like the dents and dings the aluminum watches will develop so maybe the larger titanium Ultra is right for me.
Glad you enjoyed!
But if u still have to use esim in order to have cellular connection if someone calls u ? Also with on demand Siri do u require any connection?
Killer intro video, brother!! Love the info and suggestion... Nice to have a "review" like this once in a while
Thank you sir!
That intro video is a work of art. It beautifully conveyed the kind of peace I've been looking for.
Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed it
So much quality in this video, i started to follow you 😉

Don’t worry, you’re amazing!
Well done, very nice Video, especially the Intro and all the effort you put into!
