Next robot for robot wars going to be made from hardox 600! Give all those spinning blades something to chew on that they ain't going to like! Ripping up soft alloy is one thing,hardox 600 something completely different. They won't even scratch it!
Andrew Wilson - It's awesome stuff, no question. I'm pretty sure that some builders are already using hardox in limited quantities - the toughness is amazing, but it's very heavy, hard to work, and really expensive. Another surprising problem is that it may be TOO hard for combat robots - by which I mean it transfers 100% of the weapon impact straight into your robot, whereas softer stuff absorbs and dissipates the energy (by getting chewed up and destroyed!), which may help preserve the more delicate internals - radio gear, batteries, etc. It's a bit like the first battle tanks (1914 war). The tank's basic body was invulnerable, but the crews got so thrown about and smashed up inside that they had a hard time doing what they had to do. Hmm. They should've had robot/android crews...
Check out Robot Wars: Copperhead vs Chronos. Copperhead is using 1" thick hardox steel for the side body/chassis and during weapon to weapon contact, it bent, believe it or not.
